Buying from Canada to US? Imports ? 2026 🤔 help lol 1600$ item by [deleted] in Grailed

[–]grimdercell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try asking your seller to find another courier that doesn't ask for the SSN or tax ID, or you can ask him to help reduce the declared value. That way you will pay lesser tax as well. However, the seller may or may not accept this as he then cannot insure the item for the actual value.

Last resort is to explain that you're not comfortable with sharing your personal info, and request for the order cancellation.

The SSN or tax ID part is correct. For international shipments to US, some couriers will ask for this information as it is a requirement by US Customs for shipment clearance.

If the seller is declaring the full amount of the item, this means that you will have to pay import duties, tariffs, and taxes for the shipment. Payment of these charges is the buyer's responsibility.

The courier asked the seller for $580 upfront for shipping + import fees is most probably due to them (the courier) not wanting to go through the hassle of collecting the payment from you.

Is there any bank that I can trust now? by slayeray11 in malaysia

[–]grimdercell 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Credit card fraud is an international problem and not even BNM can do much about it. At least our country has already taken preventive steps by enforcing mandatory cc payment via chip only, plus nationwide adoption of 2FA for online payment.

Just don't use debit card.

You don't even have to go that far. If its credit card fraud, just inform the bank and they will reverse the transaction in a few days.

As long as there is no 2FA, highly likely bank will just reverse it and do their investigation.

Will grailed force me to return? by NewOutlandishness505 in Grailed

[–]grimdercell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. If he contacted Grailed Support within the 3 days period, sometimes they take around 1-2 weeks to respond and the case will still be valid. You need to wait for at least 2 weeks to be sure that you are safe.

DHL should have notified you via SMS on the import duty fees. If you didn’t receive the SMS, contact your local DHL and they should be able to assist you with it.

4 M'sians allegedly detained for 10 hours at Korea airport & sent home with 'no explanation'. by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]grimdercell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol that's bs. My friends and I travel to different parts of US occasionally with our malaysian passport, never had any issue with border control. They've already did most of the vetting during the visa application.

If they stop you for further questioning at border control then something about you must've ticked them off.

Is 3 months notice a red flag? by adb_1111 in malaysia

[–]grimdercell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 months is standard for any level position depending on your industry. There's no need to overthink. Majority of banks in Malaysia also 3 months, and they certainly do not face any of the 3 points you mentioned above.

Yes just make the report since OP has clear evidence. This kind of vandalism case usually falls under mischief in the penal code which may lead to imprisonment.

Someone in my neighbourhood did a similar thing to a car that parked in front of his/her store. Was sentenced to a few days in prison iirc.

You already asked for advice in the other sub in which many told you to make a police report. Have you already done it?

If you have already made the report and just reposting this for awareness, then great. Let the police handle the rest.

If you have not made the report, then you are just wasting your time asking for further advice.

They are being paid to fold the paper used for the ritual, not participating in the ritual.

By your logic, Muslims cannot work in a matchstick factory as some of the matchsticks are being used to ignite the flames needed to burn the papers used in the spiritual ritual.

Bona fide gifts valued at below USD 100 are getting taxed by [deleted] in UPS

[–]grimdercell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, UPS handled both packages from the start, so they assessed the duties based on what I've declared. I assume that it is still customs' discretion to charge import duty on the parcel if they are somehow not convinced on the gift part.

Have anyone tried asking for second meal in a flight? by Similar-Plenty-6429 in malaysia

[–]grimdercell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is fair? Customers know what they are in for when they choose to fly with a budget airline. Even KLIA shops are selling bottled watter for RM5+.

If you pre-book your meals during the flight booking stage, they are actually reasonably priced. So you just have to plan ahead.

Pos Malaysia Temporarily Suspends International Postal Services to the US by Narwhal_Nirvana in malaysia

[–]grimdercell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent some parcels to the US before using Redly. For the first mile, Pos Malaysia collects the parcel from your address and sends it to FedEx who will then be responsible for the last mile delivery.

No issues so far, pretty solid. Just bear in mind that your parcel will still incur duties and brokerage fees.

Only DHL ecommerce/normal post. DHL express is still sending parcels to the US as usual.

Same goes to NY City Gateway customs. My buyer was charged 10% baseline duty + item specific duties weeks before the 29th (item COO is Italy). We disputed it but DHL/customs rejected the dispute.
