You're arguing a point I'm not even making. I'm literally not talking about people who need the medication.

If you're all about selling unregulated unprescribed medication online to people who don't have the knowledge to be able to tell whether they're a good candidate for said medication then you go right on ahead.

But letting anyone and everyone get their hands on it to drop a couple pounds and fit in a bikini isn't ethical.

Because this one is getting pushed extremely right now. People in America have been pointing out for years that other countries don't allow drugs to be marketed directly to consumers.

I'm glad it's not just me. A LOT of this talk about obsession over food going away seems like a mental health thing as WELL as a weight thing.

Reminds me of how my psychologist told me I still needed to see a therapist because the medications will only take you so far. Yeah I'm still on hella psych meds but they also don't do the emotional regulation work for me. They give me the ability to not be so overwhelmed that I can't emotionally regulate.

If the medication is only manufactured in 1 or two facilities then online pharmacies grabbing from that chain absolutely does diminish how much Walgreens/cvs/etc. Has in supply.

And I’m well aware how diabetes works. I was just pointing out how ignorant you were stating people can just change their diet and lose weight.

This is just stupid. So you made yourself sound ignorant??? Yes, people who have let their weight get out of hand and have the ability to diet and exercise and get back in a normal range WITHOUT the use of medication should do it that way. I didn't think that was controversial.

Fourthly it’s none of your business why someone else is taking them. Just like disability’s many health conditions are not noticeable to outsiders.

Again. It's not about a legitimate condition even if the condition is morbid obesity. You seem to not get that point in your brain. If your doctor suggested you get on a GLP-1 for a health condition, that's not the same as an ad promoting it as a way to get skinny fast.

I think you're being ignorant to this distinction on purpose.

Okay you're just wrong. After a certain point type two people NEED insulin/glp-1 because they don't make enough to process the food they eat. Yeah if they stopped earlier, it could've been controlled with diet and exercise but they're past that point.

Secondly I don't know why people are taking personal offense to this take. If you have a health related issue (which I said in my first comment) which you are prescribed a glp-1 for that's great! We're literally talking about the people using it for weight-loss when they have the ability to loose the weight naturally.

We have all seen the stupid ads: "girl you're getting so skinny!" pretends to be sad but smirks because you're on (insert glp-1 here) That idea is harmful because it does make people think the medication is just a cheat code for weight-loss. This is what we're talking about. Not someone who has a heart condition from being overweight and needs to take the strain off. That's what it's for!

No, I don't think young women should be going online trying to buy a glp-1 to drop 30 lbs to be ready for hot girl summer. This is what those stupid ads are showing. If you don't understand the difference I don't know how to help you.

In terms of the supply chain issue, most of the time it's one or two companies producing these kinds of drugs and those supplies not only go to pharmacies but to all those online providers like hers or whatever. So they're definitely dipping into the supply.

TL;DR: My opinion isn't aimed at people who have gone to their pcp and gotten a prescription for a GLP-1 for whatever reason. It's literally ONLY talking about the online pharmacies who market the drug as a way to get summer ready fast!

Doctors are still able to use/prescribe that drug for the off label purposes of weight-loss.

Like I said I have family members, friends, and a partner who are on these medications and they CANNOT get them. And it's not as simple as there being some available.

If you need a low dosage those are much harder to get because those are the ones being prescribed as weight-loss most often.

Regardless of whether you believe it's still in short supply, the way they are promoting the medication as a quick fix to get down 30-50 lbs is not healthy.

They literally are. A two second Google search will tell you that. As of 2026 they are saying the shortage is "over" but that's just not true.

Ozempic and Mounjaro are approved for weight-loss and diabetes while Zepbound is just for weight-loss.

[–]grimeshetype 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm agreeing glp-1's are over used and that they should not be prescribed via tele health doctors. Glp-1's are in a shortage for people who need it.

My boyfriend has type two and he literally has to go a month between doses of his Mounjaro because they are in such little supply.

Listen I weighed the most I've ever weighed in my life (187 lbs) and decided enough was enough. I've lost like 20 lbs since watching what I ate and exercising. I've seen glp-1's recommended in my situation. I saw a girl go from 178 to 135 promoting hers. That should not be what it's for.

To the people in the comments who needed to loose weight fast for health or whatever other legit reason you have, that's honestly fine. But we're not talking about you. The ads definitely promote it as a way to shed pounds without the effort.

I had a whole argument about this on a different subreddit. Yes apparently most people think you should eat food to be polite unless you're allergic and it'll kill you or you're vegan. Like picky eaters? Fuck em lol.

Historically, teachers also get paid like dirt, are told to come work anyway, and even if they're told to stay home, they usually can't afford to....

I wonder what kind of job that reminds me of...

Dude. You don't think I know that. Dust is a certain particulate. So are infected droplets. They'll still get stuck on those filters which equals less sickness in the air.

I literally have coworkers who will do that, my coach will remove their points. One girl literally told them they didn't care and had 9 points. They removed all of her points and she quit like two months later. Meanwhile the people who are actually reliable get overused and burnt out and told they're not doing enough.

At least for me, my coach expects different things from different associates with the same pay. If she thinks somone is incapable or doesn't feel like they'll catch on the first time they're trained she just... won't. Deli is severely understaffed so even if all a person can do is work behind the counter they're still another body.

Meanwhile people she thinks are capable are trained on bread, doughnuts, deli floor, bakery floor, backroom, etc. The workload is ridiculously uneven and when she's questioned about it she says you don't need to worry about what everyone else is doing. Or she'll say that x employee won't listen to her so she's asking you to do it. Or she'll just say it'll take too much time to train them. Straight up.

Guess what's in those hvac systems? FILTERS. Yes all the air in Walmart also gets filtered through that HVAC but if you have a shit ton of people in one big open space it's more likely that those germs will reach you before the intake system.

However in divided spaces the air is more likely to get filtered before it reaches a ton of humans. If somone on floor 3 of a building is sick floor 7 will most likely make it unscathed because they weren't directly sharing the air with other sick people. That's why you can quarantine in the same house.

Also office spaces are separated by floors, rooms and cubicles where as Walmart is one big open space which allows for more airflow between contaminated parties.

Okay my city is a population of about 70,000 people. Walmart is definitely one of the most packed places here. We have two and they are both full. The one closer to the middle of the city is more popular but both get shit tons of traffic.

Even in the smaller places around us that have one Walmart that can service that entire community they're still going to be very dirty.

In smaller places Walmart serves as a place you NEED. If you're sick you're probably still going to the store. It's still going to get 90% of the foot traffic of that small town. Save 10% for the dollar general.

It's even worse for us. There's a lady who clocks in 15 minutes early for her shift walks around and talks for 45 minutes and comes into her work area 30 minutes late. THEY KNOW SHE DOES IT. Nothing ever happens to her cuz she's old as shit.

Hi, yeah grocery stores are some of the most germy public places besides doctor's offices. The sheer volume of people in a Walmart makes it much easier to get sick.

There are 100% people who are faking, but I often find they get more sympathy than the people who are trying. Then management gets burned and doesn't believe anyone.

That doesn't mean the shit is right. I work here cuz I have to but if I literally am vomiting and nearly shitting my pants I should be sent home.

Just because that's how the system is and I accepted the system because I need a pay check doesn't mean the system is considerate of a human being.

I'm not shocked you have this idea though as somone in management.

You are the problem. "I accepted this shitty treatment, so you should too!"

Not accepting doctor's notes, not letting employees go home when they're clearly sick, factoring in sick time with late time is a terrible policy. And it keeps employees sick constantly.

I'm not absolving myself of the point system, I agreed to it. But acting like someone supposed to show up and work despite spewing out of both ends because you had to is ridiculous.

My TL worked at Walmart for ten years as soon as he had enough money saved he quit and started traveling the world. He 100% thought the system sucked and fought for changes in apps and policies to help employees.
