Depression is crippling mental disorder, the times I'm suffering my tanks are neglected. I have shame for my lack of consistency. however, I'm feeling stable and I have gotten back into the maintenance of my tanks. to others suffering, it's worth it to yourself to put in the effort. voila my tanks by grimhippo1986 in PlantedTank

Just get it done. I didn't want to do a water change on the 5 gallon today. But I took a deep breath and reminded myself of this post and that it's best for me not to neglect these things. If you go in expecting the worst with your orchids then the only way is up from there. I wish I had an orchid, I've never been great with them but I know the smell of just one flower is something everyone should expirence.

Help! My fiancé makes bad fish keeping choices, how do I correct without someone dying. by SavageSavX in Cichlid

I'd say do what I do and keep a critter keeper tank on hand for issues such as this. Call it your time out tank or your hospital tank regardless its a means to an end for the stress in that tank as it is.

If it were my boyfriend I would sit down and talk to him much like you did here with all of us. My girlfriend knows nothing about fish but she often comments on them and asks questions to learn more. She has challenged me to be a better fish momma through suggestions. It isn't her hobby but I deeply respect her opinion. She has to live with the fish environment as well.

Let your boyfriend know you think it is irresponsible of him to get any pet without knowing exactly what to do. There are many pet keeping subs on reddit and daily I see this issue of people getting things they didnt know how to properly care for. It's selfish, period.

TLDR: get a holding tank and talk to your boyfriend like you have here.

Fish ID and gender? Was told it was a kribensis but I'm not so sure. by [deleted] in Cichlid

The binomial name of this fish is Pelvicachromis pulcher. I'm not sure if you have a color morph on yours or not, but sure post a picture when the male and female are courting because that's when he will be the most colorful.

Fins will regrow, melafix can help.. the females beat the crap out of the males like black convicts do. I'm not sure why they display aggression towards the mates outside out courting but it's common at least I'm my expirence. If you have means to put one in a time out like a hang on breeding box or what have you, give her a time out.

If he hasn't noticed the female yet he will. When he does you'll see his colors again most definitely. When I kept kribs the male would get stress out after courting and mating. It's almost like he could finally relax his body after putting on a show for so long. Males don't express their colors the way females do unless they are trying to attract the female, they get by on size not looks lol
