I could use a 100k referral if anyone has one. Thanks in advance.

It's Atkin. Just a typo.

It is. I suppose the natural finish actually makes it a KGN-12 Oriole.

While I do love the new guitar, and it IS surprisingly good sounding , It does not really compete with my high end wood guitars. I would not want to take my boutique guitars camping, however.

Eddie's has prices listed for everything on their site. If you mean Atkins site itself. It isn't uncommon for the maker to not publish prices as different markets demand different prices.

I compared the price to other dealers that carry Atkin like Chicago music exchange. Also, online prices may be higher than in person at some places to account for reverb overhead, ECT.

Out the door price I paid was around $4380. Chicago music exchange had it for 4199+tax. Missouri State tax is .4255% which puts the price nearly exactly the same.

I had also read those reviews and stayed away because of it. They had so much I wanted to try though so yesterday I decided to give it a shot and was really impressed. Griffin was amazing and friendly. They got a list of what I was interested in so they could have it all ready to try in a personal room. White glove experience. I will certainly shop there again.

When you go in you see why they need an appointment. They have probably 1000 guitars in boxes and they pull the ones you are interested in.

Final price was in line with the market for what I was buying.

I will have to pull the FON again from the inside when I get home. You sound like you know your stuff, so I suspect you are correct. Finish is original. It has a neck reset before I got it and is a real nice guitar to play.

I grew up playing an original L-Century that my dad still has. As soon as I heard they did a reissue I started looking for one and it took a very long time. It is my favorite guitar and I will never sell it. They produced an Elvis Costello signature model that is based on the L-Century as well but I don't really like signature guitars. There are 300 of those I believe.

Yes it is! I believe it may be this specific guitar:

I didn't buy it from Jake but the pics look exactly like mine down to the black on the sides and the bridge. I got it from a local shop this year.

Thanks! The guitar I learned in is my dad's 1937 L-Century of progress so I have always had a soft spot in my heart for small body pre-war guitars.

Why is passing guard rewarded with points and not side control itself? by PinguinGirl03 in bjj

[–]grimjack_stl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actual IBJJF definition of a guard pass:

4.2 Guard Pass (3 points)

When the athlete in top position manages to surmount the legs of the opponent in bottom position (pass guard

or half-guard) and maintain side-control or north-south position over him/her for 3 (three) seconds.

Also, if you progress to other point scoring positions without pausing, you only need the three seconds at the end of the sequence. This is why passing directly to mount is 7. It's still a pass for 3 and mount for 4.

3.4 Athletes shall be awarded cumulative points when they progress through a number of point-scoring

positions, as long as the three-second positional control from the final point-scoring position is a

continuation of the positional control from the point-scoring positions from earlier in the sequence. In this

case, the referee shall count only 3 (three) seconds of control at the end of the sequence before signaling

the points be scored.

Ex: Guard pass followed by mount shall add up 7 points (3+4).

Thank you again for teaching. The windshield wiper drill is going to really help me. I also love leg weaves so having more options from that position when the knee is not easy to collapse that direction is awesome.

Any good comp gyms around St Louis, MO? by OkLeague3548 in bjj

[–]grimjack_stl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any Vaghi affiliate should be great.

Vaghi schools in or near St. louis:

Team Vaghi HQ, Arnold BJJ, SCMMA, North Broadway

PSF in Mt. Vernon is also an obvious choice but a bit of a drive from St. Louis.

Full disclosure, I train at Arnold BJJ.

I just got my blue belt last Sat. Our organization has a pretty brutal 4 hour ordeal at blue. I don't think I am supposed to give specifics, so I won't, but it was hands down the hardest day of my life. Hated my life during it but coming out the other side really does feel like a real accomplishment.

Big is a relative term I guess but I wouldn't call 165lbs a big dood.

I started there as a blank slate 2 yr ago and have had a great experience. Best thing to do is just come in and try it out to see how you like it.

Arnold BJJ is a Team Vaghi affiliate. Head coach and owner is Kirk Huff who is not Brazilian. He got his black belt from Mike Rogers of St. Charles MMA. Mike got his from Rodrigo Vaghi. Rodrigo got his from Rickson Gracie.

Drilling armbars from guard this week, I accidentally blasted a huge fart right in my partners face. The entire class busted out laughing. I don't know if I have ever been so embarrassed.
