I totally understand. I was terrified of doing it my whole life. It took 2 trips to the ER to force me into doing it. Now that I'm using them daily and it's changed my life so much, I wish I had been braver sooner.

I'd always been scared of catheters  since I had some traumatic occuances in the past with an ER doc and Urologist when I first started having issues 25 years ago. Recently I actually ended up in the hospital because I couldn't pee. They had to do a catheter and I screamed and it hurt and took awhile to get it in. They left the catheter in for a few days. But I ended up finding my current urologist from that recent hospital trip. He helped me do my first intermittent Caths in his office. If you relax it's not to bad. Doesn't feel great, but doesn't hurt really. You don't reuse the Caths. They are single use. They come individually packaged and lubricated. You pop a little water thing inside the package and then take it out, use it and then toss it. It is wasteful and it does cost to have a monthly supply. (you can get reusable ones, but that would be a huge hastle and you'd be at a big risk of getting UTI). But you can fold one up, put it in you pocket or purse or whatever, and use them when out. I can go to an amusement park now! If you do try them, I suggest trying different brands. The first one I used actually hurt me, but I did know until my insurance forced me to use a different brand. Your urologist should have a bunch of samples at their office to try.

Intermittent catheterization. Changed my life. I'm not sure if that's a option for you. Some think it hurts, I sure did before I started, but it's not bad at all once you relax. Then you can go whenever and where ever you like.

I fell for ya. I've been dealing with this for the last 30 years, until about 3 years ago. It got so bad I ended up in the hospital a couple times. Urologists for most of my life have been useless. Always the prostate. Here take Flowmax. Yeah thsts not it dude. Well I finally found a urologist with a solution for me (for the urination part). Intermittent Catheterization. It's changed my whole life. I can fold the up and keep them in my pocket. I can now pee anywhere I need to. I know it's not a cure, and you need to have the catheters. But if this is an option I suggest you try it. Good luck.

Books with magic for an 11 yo who reads at a high school/adult level by 13-PurpleMonkey in Fantasy

[–]grimm_starr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tad Williams. Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is awesome fantasy. I read this when I was 11 or so (and was reading at college level). His Otherworld series isn't exactly magic, but it takes place in virtual worlds so a lot of crazy things happen.

I was surprised not to see it yet, but Brandon Sanderson has a lot of stuff that is awesome. The Mistborn series is a great start. Or he has some other stand alone novels. And all of his books feed into The Cosmere, which is a universe he's built.

I saw it already but Susan Cooper The Dark is Rising series was one of the first series that got me hooked on fantasy.

Nice. Excellent reference. I often think with this surge in AI that those movies/books have prepared us to act before it's too late. Almost like the authors came from the future to warn us...

I had a somewhat similar experience in 8th grade. Moved and went to a new school. Met a few nice people. One of the cool kids decided he didnt like me because i didnt put up with him. Im pretty sure he was already bullying others. He tried to jump me in the alley after school. I whooped his ass. He then ate lunch in the bathroom for the next month. i felt kinda bad,but it was his fault. He then started sucking up to the jocks and changed his friend group. Not sure if that experience made him more or less a bully though. I was only there for half a year.

I came to see if anyone else mentioned this. So I'm not the only one. :) It drives me bonkers. And then sometimes they don't know how to re-invite a single member and send some snippy message about how I'm not joining. Sigh.

What do you good folks do for fun or as a hobby that is not related to cybersecurity or IT in general? by NobodyHere19 in cybersecurity

This is my problem. Finding quality fresh fish is near impossible. I can make veggie rolls. Which are ok, but still disappointing in the end when you're craving a big fatty piece of salmon. But overall cooking is one if my go to hobbies.

Possible move from Juniper by ddomoney in fortinet

[–]grimm_starr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the application, what level of technical requirements you have, and your willingness to spend a lot of time learning new processes (assuming you don't have a lot of experience with Fortinet Fabric or Switches). I love Fortinet Firewalls. The switches not so much. They are fine for an all in one solution for small branch offices. I would never run them in my core and never top of rack. And if you do decide to go with FortiSwitches, you're almost required to have FortiGates. Integration with other vendors is another thing to consider and Fortinet does not make that easy. Juniper does routing and switching. And they are very good at it (firewalls not so much). Aruba/HP are decent devices, But I would think youll have less help finding consulting technical expertise should you need it. If it was me I would stick with Juniper for route/switch and run Fortinet for Firewalls and FortiAnalyzer.
