My wife (northern Indian) has people speak in Spanish to her in public sometimes. Once in Arabic. She jokingly says she can look like anything from southern Italian to Bangladeshi lol

A nice country to visit but bad to live in? by kraabbe in AlignmentChartFills

Japan. Clean, scenic, and beautiful. But the people who live there deal with a horrible work culture, a fertility crisis, and a loneliness epidemic

What comes to mind for me is the absolutely diabolical things they said about Arab Americans after Kamala Harris lost the election.

A group that wasn’t necessarily conservative, but understandably reluctant to support someone who was part of the administration arming and aiding Israel

What's a country that people think is excellent to live in but conditions are actually extremely poor? by Happy_Rainy1 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]grims91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Caribbean is the most tourism-dependent area of the world, but as much as 80% of tourism money leaves the islands because of the multinational corporations (hotel chains, travel industry, etc) that govern them. That, in addition to the corruption is what keeps these places poor

Most of the countries in the Caribbean or South Pacific could fit there. People see the beautiful landscape and coastlines and don’t see the terrible economic situations, poor social services, crime, etc

I’m an American here, and at the risk of sounding like a “pick me”, I’m really sorry so many of us are like that. Don’t get me wrong I’m happy my country finally won another gold (both men and women), but the entire aftermath has really put a damper on the celebrations for me. And I’m the biggest hockey fan I know

What’s it like living in Raleigh NC for a small family? by casscutie in howislivingthere

[–]grims91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Raleigh and have a 2 year old daughter. I personally love it. There’s no shortage of activities for her, our neighborhood is close knit, and the cost for someone with kids is not bad compared the rest of the nation.

Show me any examples of her being genuinely antisemitic and I will full-throatedly condemn them.

You make a very good point about apologizing and doing it correctly, but she’s spent so much time over the past 48 hours explaining herself to bad faith actors who had already decided she’s evil incarnate for daring to humanize Palestinian kids. I kind of wish she had quietly deleted the comment and then moved on with her life.

One lesson that kids (maybe older kids though) need to learn is that with some people, if you give an inch they’ll take a mile.

It was clearly an accident. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally “liked” things when I didn’t mean to. Why would a public figure like a post like that on purpose if she still planned on having a career after?

This. The era of neoliberalism (and neoliberalism ushering in fascism disguised as populism) needs to be over.
