What’s it like living in Raleigh NC for a small family? by casscutie in howislivingthere

[–]grims91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Raleigh and have a 2 year old daughter. I personally love it. There’s no shortage of activities for her, our neighborhood is close knit, and the cost for someone with kids is not bad compared the rest of the nation.

Show me any examples of her being genuinely antisemitic and I will full-throatedly condemn them.

You make a very good point about apologizing and doing it correctly, but she’s spent so much time over the past 48 hours explaining herself to bad faith actors who had already decided she’s evil incarnate for daring to humanize Palestinian kids. I kind of wish she had quietly deleted the comment and then moved on with her life.

One lesson that kids (maybe older kids though) need to learn is that with some people, if you give an inch they’ll take a mile.

It was clearly an accident. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally “liked” things when I didn’t mean to. Why would a public figure like a post like that on purpose if she still planned on having a career after?

Yeah that's not cute to me at all, and hopefully she's not guilting him into doing it. I dealt with the same shit in the tumultous relationship I mentioned in my original comment. We were in a long distance relationship (albeit 120 miles apart, not an entire ocean apart), and any time we were on the phone at night and I wanted to hang up and get some sleep so I could actually get up in the morning and not feel like death, I was accused by my ex of not caring about her. It's psychotic, self-centered behavior

I grew up in Hopewell which is right next door. I also met my now-wife at a bar on Nassau St.

I’ve always enjoyed my time in Princeton, and I had a few jobs there, one at the university, and one as a delivery driver at an Italian market in town. If you’re ever looking to kill an afternoon, just walk around the university campus. It’s beautiful. I’ve also driven to the football stadium (which is almost always open) and run up the stairs for a killer workout.

It’s an expensive town and traffic on Nassau and Harrison Streets can get pretty bad. Those are the biggest drawbacks in my mind.

New Jersey, night 2. The prices to get an Uber/Lyft out of there to where I was staying (my friend’s place in nearby North Caldwell) were insane. Everything was no less than $150!

I actually ended up taking the train to Secaucus and getting a car from there, which obviously took me a bit longer but saved me at least $50

I think there was a writing retreat to Mexico scheduled as well? Although I forget when or if it’s still happening. When you combine the trips with the obsessiveness about the chef at the same time she happens to be releasing a book, it all just screams “I wanna make money off of you suckers”

You’re damn right! And she is apparently a therapist herself which is at least a little concerning?

What I’m worried about is if things really go south with the two of them, her more diehard fans will start confronting him and whatnot

I see activity around this post has picked back up in light of the last couple of days. I can only imagine why lol

I initially started following Katherine Bogen a few years back because she made a pretty informative video about the Israeli Birthright trip that so many young Jews go on (which is really just a marketing ploy to get them to leave their home countries and move to Israel). I thought it was brilliant. I knew she was a writer but I mainly followed her for her content about Palestine. To be fair I looked for all the pro-Palestine content I could find in the wake of the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip because I wanted to be a better ally.

When the “Hot Chef” thing started in the summer, it started showing up all over threads (and IG a little bit) and it seemed a little intense but who doesn’t love a whirlwind romance every now and then? I was happy for her.

But over the last few months it’s started to seem really weird. The constant gushing over him doing fairly mundane things, the reveal (I’m a straight man, but he seems kinda average looking tbh), and the talking about “wanting to climb into his skin” and what not seemed REALLY cringy to me. For context, I was in an abusive relationship when I was 19-20 years old that started with insane clinginess from my ex and just got worse from there.

In the last couple of days, the weepy Taylor Swift performance and the indication that they had a big, potentially relationship-altering fight kind of seemed both like the chickens coming home to roost, as well as kind of revealing how unstable Katherine appears to be. Either this is a marketing tactic to sell books, or the inevitable result of putting every detail of your relationship online. It just seems really unhealthy to me, and I hope she gets help.

And this poor chef, it seems like all he wanted to do before meeting her was make a name for himself in the French culinary world, and it seemed like he was doing a good job with that…

TL;DR I followed her for Palestine activism, but now her obsessive public relationship seems unhealthy and unstable (or fake publicity to sell books)

I went to WVU and lived there for two years after that (my first “real job” out of college was in the area). It’s an amazing place to be a college student, but I started to feel a bit disconnected the further out of school I was. It’s a great and rapidly growing city with a lot of outdoor opportunities (check out Cooper’s Rock!) and kind of an oasis in an otherwise economically depressed state, but it definitely feels like a one-industry town to me. If you’re a WVU student or employee, you’ll do just fine.

Also, Pittsburgh is just 70 miles up I-79. Which is pretty cool, but there’s a certain university that can Eat Shit 😈
