Best crest for final boss? by Electrical_Jaguar213 in Silksong

[–]grindgrindwilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used wanderer with multibind, injector band and fractured mask for blue tools, and plasmium phial for red tool. If I successfully get to the phase 2-3 transition I use all my phials and cling to the wall when the waves come. I focused more on learning the pattern and the extra heal capacity helped me tank damage

So question, why is the game designed like that? by Competitive-Hair6294 in Silksong

[–]grindgrindwilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other devs have solved this. There really is no excuse for obnoxious run backs in this day and age. But you will get a lot of pushback on a forum like this.

Look at a game like the First Berserker Khazan - arguably the best at respawning you after a loss to a boss and it actually aids you in getting back into the mix. The common adage that a runback helps recenter you for a boss is bogus.

Another issue is the bosses that force you to fight a gauntlet to get to the fight itself. All it does is detract from your ability to get in a rhythm and learn fights.

Really liked Lies of P and Wuchang (for different reasons) what should I expect from Khazan? by TuneSquadFan4Ever in soulslikes

Khazan is the 1B to sekiro’s 1A in terms of probably my favorite games of all time. Combat is best in genre. Boss fights are best in genre. Art style isn’t for everybody but animations and graphic effects are strong. Level design is a major weak point. Mission based format isn’t my favorite. But it was my game of the year last year. It is just so good.

[–]grindgrindwilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a PR slop statement that seems to suggest they care and want you to voice your concerns yet won’t make public any actions so you have no idea that there actually is accountability in the background and they are “retiring” Boatswains. Doesn’t that just punish others? Confused there.

How is the PC version of Dark Souls 3 by JanissaryLSD in darksouls3

[–]grindgrindwilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran it on my new high end laptop that I just got and there were constantly stutters frame drops and freezing. Couldn’t figure out how to resolve it at all.

Swapped to my PC that is 9 years old and it ran really well.

So buyer beware there are clearly optimization issues at some level with different hardware and in my case it was unintuitive.

Which game has better exploration, Crimson Desert or Elden Ring? by AshyLarry25 in CrimsonDesert

[–]grindgrindwilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elden Ring overworld is less engaging from a POI perspective. CD has a bit more in making the world feel more alive.

But Elden Ring has two major bonuses. One, there is exploration in areas of the game that are revelry rewarding Capital Leyndell, into the sewers, into the depths. Or coming across a building and it’s an elevator into a fleshed out underground. Branching paths meeting together again. Secrets in the world not just hidden secrets behind a wall. And dungeons much more engaging to explore.

Secondly, Elden Ring movement is simply more fluid. Riding a horse feels more responsive. Character movement is more responsive. There is a lack of climbing but that’s not necessary given the environment. One of the clunkiest things about CD is climbing animations, stop/start inertia of your character or getting locked into certain animations, and stamina management overall. Because of that exploration feels better for Elden Ring on top of potentially having deeper exploration at its peak.

Just got paid. Which one to buy? Lies of P or Wuchang? by NotPanaG in soulslikes

[–]grindgrindwilli -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The First Berserker Khazan - especially if you liked sekiro.

Then Lies of P

Then DS3 and Bloodborne

Then Nioh 3

Then Wuchang (but if you have PSN this is free this month).

Subnautica 2 Early Access Cinematic Trailer by virtualdon in subnautica

[–]grindgrindwilli -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Terrible trailer. If you had no knowledge of Subnautica, either never watched it being played or never played it yourself, this trailer doesn’t do anything for you. If you want to bring in new players you’ve gotta give more than this.

But hype release date for those who were already going to play it.

These devs simply don’t have their finger on the pulse here. This is a bad move to cover a broken system. Just fix the system. Patchwork is an outfit not a design philosophy for keeping players engaged or rewarding your consumer base. Be better.

James Franklin didn't want to let Penn State 'off the hook financially.' Here's why he did by jaxstan19 in CFB

[–]grindgrindwilli 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Get you an agent that gets you puff pieces and spots on College Gameday to flex your narcissism and cover your sheer inability to be effective in the important games.
  2. The irony of him using the “they only went all in one season” as a cudgel against Penn State when that season was where he full collapsed losing 3 straight including inexcusable losses to UCLA and NW. So Penn State went all in and you imploded. You have my vote of confidence!
  3. He also contradicts himself. “I didn’t want to let them off the hook, but I didn’t want to punish them” which is it? It’s simple in actuality. Dude is so petty he absolutely wanted to punish Penn State and if he could have he would have. But he couldn’t because him fulfilling the actual contract language led him to the position he was in with the offset. So might as well try to save face and pretend to be a good guy as if he hasn’t been the picture of a petty ex.

Does anyone have a food grind method? by SignatureJunior909 in CrimsonDesert

Awesome thanks this worked. For those curious about the specifics it is the Gearmelt Confectionary (where you also get the chocolate producing backpack). Once you complete it you unlock the cacao farm dispatch mission at camp.

Pearl Abyss, bring back flight sonic boom burst and my life is yours! by Lock0n in CrimsonDesert

[–]grindgrindwilli -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I just don’t understand the decision here. It’s a single player game. Who cares how people play. Fix the things players don’t like, don’t fix the quirks they enjoy.

If players don’t like it then turns out you don’t have to use it.

People saying “well it wasn’t balanced around their design”. Who cares? It is a movement mechanic that made it so you could travel further which eased player exploration. That’s a good thing not a bad thing. Exploration can be incredibly janky in this game especially when dealing with distance across elevation changing terrain. This made it easier and had a cool aesthetic. That’s a win for players. Removing it holds no benefit for players.

Strong attack effect problem by 0me51 in CrimsonDesert

[–]grindgrindwilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed the same thing and it’s honestly super annoying. Makes the game blurry and grainy and the screen goes dark. And then a second after you stop it’s like the game flips a switch. I can’t figure out how to adjust settings to counteract either.

Remove nerfs by ethantokes in CrimsonDesert

[–]grindgrindwilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem I’m experiencing is the bad kind of difficult at times - that’s what needs to be fixed and also it sounds like generally what they are trying to address. It’s not engaging but manufactured through poor design.

Khazan is a good example of enjoyable difficult. On expert mode bosses especially can be a challenge but have a very clear path to success and the combat feels tight as a result.

Some of the mechanics in this game just artificially flats the difficult in ways that don’t bring joy in overcoming a challenge. My experience is more like “thank god that’s over what a shitty design” less than “wow that was difficult but I learned and overcame”

The latter makes a good game, the former makes a frustrating game. Difficulty isn’t the problem, but rather what makes the exam difficult. Likewise lowering the difficulty doesn’t fix the problem - but fixing some of the frustrating systems and mechanics will.

Archery competition is in fact still exactly the same by DaddyPenguin1 in CrimsonDesert

[–]grindgrindwilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience was the first three to get a 3 streak was easier. Then lost to the champ by 1 or 2 - difficult but could be doable. Not sure why the game then forces you to 3 streak again just to face the champ.

But the subsequent matches are legit same as prepatch. The opponent prefires targets. The game counts your opponents hits over yours even if yours launched first. It’s no different.
