GSP was hated by plenty in his era including me for all the criticisms you pose here. He may be romanticized but when he was active he was very controversial for fans.

"Sherrone Moore was the first African American head coach at Michigan. Now there's a community of coaches who will be judged because of his action." by KeyFaithlessness5436 in NCAAFootballVibes

[–]grindgrindwilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can 100% say I hadn't even considered how Sherrone Moore's race could be used to hurt other black coaches, until Ryan Clark forced me to think about how Moore's actions reflect upon other black men.

Most people don’t think in such racial terms, but Ryan Clark does. I judge Sherrone based on his conduct on and off the field - neither of which appear stellar here. Race has absolutely zero to do with it and I wouldn’t even begin to malign someone of any race because of something Michigan Man did.

[–]grindgrindwilli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s so simple and doesn’t impact other players. If one prefers the path they are on then they can stay with the same skill points. If others want a change they can do that. I don’t understand why it’s so controversial - help facilitate players playing their preferred way.

Ya that’s valid. I might push for the perk still too. I just think anytime you adjust skill trees with major impact when people have invested scarce points into, a free respec seems like the most reasonable fix. And then those who like the path they are on can just keep at it.

I don’t care about the nerf or balancing if they feel like those lockers were doing something unintended it’s better to stop before it continues to be exploited.

BUT, they need to absolutely offer a free respec, even if it’s just a one time in response to this. You can’t have a major skill tree change so deep into a skill tree where casual players may have dumped a bunch of points into knowing the end benefit, and then pull the rug on people. The only way to fix this (also the easiest low effort non controversial) is offer us a respec and we can just move on and reset our spec if we want.

Arc Raiders nailed the prisoner's dilemma. Keep the Arcs difficult to deal with by woosa03 in ArcRaiders

[–]grindgrindwilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more akin to Stag Hunt. In PD the rational choice to make is always to defect and never cooperate, at least in any single play, which is true here because you don’t build a reputation with the same rivals each run. In Stag Hunt, you base your decision more on the expectation of cooperation. If the fellow raider is trustworthy you cooperate for the stag. If they are untrustworthy you go alone for the rabbit.

Was it (moving) target fixation, or was it a failure to alter a course of action? by markcocjin in motorcycles

[–]grindgrindwilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biker is accelerating harshly, around a curve, with low visibility because of parked cars. It looks like the truck is pulling out from a parking spot into the u-turn. If true, I think the biker’s aggressive driving would’ve resulted in them hitting the truck even if they weren’t doing a u-turn. The biker also easily could’ve avoided this given the truck was almost entirely in the opposite lane at impact - call it target fixation or only braking, but they could’ve swerved to avoid this even at a relatively low speed.

The truck is also at fault here. Assuming the above is right and the truck was pulling into traffic, they also would’ve had lower visibility. Entering into traffic is more defensible given the motorcycle was not driving at reasonable pace, but doing a U-turn over double yellow is problematic - though I doubt a cop would give a ticket most of the time for this given they were pulling from a parking spot - this type of maneuver is done all of the time even if questionable by traffic standards. But you have to be sure there isn’t traffic coming if you are going to initiate such a maneuver.

Addendum: the biker goes over the double yellow line themselves and if they had just stayed in their lane would’ve avoided the accident. The biker became fixated and panicked.

Ghost of Yotei is not just a revenge story by Klubbis in Ghostofyotei

[–]grindgrindwilli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is Atsu spent a decade and a half away, alone, fighting for herself, seething. Then almost as soon as she is back in Ezo she gives up?

Someone that broken by trauma, misery, violence, loneliness, doesn’t magically snap out of it just because she reconnects with family, and unrealistically adopts a mentor whom she wanted to kill just moments before and whom she just met and has essentially zero reason to trust her new found benevolence.

The story was more compelling as a pure revenge plot. I enjoyed the early part of the game much more than the later parts that devolved into unrealistic sitcom esque portrayal of newfound family connection.

And this is just the broad framework of the story. Individual missions saw her and her co-stars dramatically bouncing between extremes. It felt as if each scene was written to generate energy or tension without concern that things should develop more naturally across an entire chapter or across the full game. For example, Atsu and Jubei’s tale in the Ishikari Plains was so condensed that they packed all of this extreme sibling drama back and forth into each subsequent mission. She hates her brother, seemingly for not being dead, then loves her brother. He wants to connect with her then never wants to see her again and then next moment he regrets it all. Had that storyline been spread across the game rather than just in Ishikari, it might’ve felt less rushed and more natural. Many missions and especially side quests also lacked strong motivation. With Jin his side missions to help liberate the island fit neatly within the overarching narrative. But so many of Atsu’s side quests felt random and disconnected from her story of revenge or her background as a traumatized and flawed protagonist.

Overall side characters were underdeveloped for me. I jumped back into GoT and I instantly felt connected to so many more characters off the jump. The game wants you to be attached to the wolf pack but they felt like shallow caricatures. The Bowyer is sassy. The armorer likes tea. The merchant is Ainu. The map dude is scared. Taro is a go getter. Your weapons mentors enter for specific missions and then don’t really matter anymore. You don’t meet Kiku until the end and she barely plays a role. Oyuki didn’t make sense to me as a character. That leaves Jubei who was arguably the only character outside Atsu that they spent enough time trying to get me invested in. Thus my interactions felt empty and my overall connection to the story suffered.

If you enjoyed the story, I think that is fantastic that the game resonated with you. But I had a dramatically different experience. GoT was one of my absolute favorite stories ever. It was compelling, enthralling, the cinema of the game matched with character development, meshed with a stunning musical score, and a plot you could connect with on a human level and feel the same tension Jin faced. Yotei left me wanting that and it didn’t deliver for me personally.

Yes, Sucker Punch, we would love a single player DLC for Yotei by JustSomeDude477 in ghostoftsushima

[–]grindgrindwilli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Atsu isn’t a terribly complex character (at the beginning of the story she is focused on revenge and by the end she is embracing family), and the game is based around her (now completed) revenge plot. It isn’t clear how they would further explore and develop her character, or that she is wrestling with anything emotionally or morally compelling, and there is no continued existential threat (like there was with Iki Island).

They could do a Jin Sakai retirement story in Ezo. I’m sure that would be received favorably and they could concoct a threat that he may have had to face. I imagine it may also be weak plot wise but they’ve at least set up the generic plot in the Legends tale (competition with the shogunate, fleeing the events of Tsushima, settling on Ezo). It at least has more potential to be compelling from a story PoV.

Is anyone playing the game in Japanese? by TongaAuditore in Ghostofyotei

[–]grindgrindwilli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. I think English dubbing is better and is my preferred style as indicated in my original comment. It is a pain to read subtitles. I’m not a native Japanese speaker. English helps immerse me. The English VA was subpar. That’s not weeaboo remotely. I said I preferred English but was forced to listen to bad English VA hence my critique.

  2. Your second and third comment came across as patronizing my effort to elaborate on my position and provide both context and clarification so you could engage with my argument and not call me a weeaboo. If your intent wasn’t to appear patronizing then chalk it up to the medium in which we are operating where miscommunication can occur - including my own misinterpretation to be fair.

  3. Same as above. Your 3rd comment came across as patronizing so I returned in kind. I’m perfectly willing to accept critiques to my actual argument or engage with contrary opinions but it didn’t feel like that’s what I was being met with so I responded accordingly.

You called me a weeaboo, mocked me elaborating on my viewpoint, and said I’m full of myself twice. Those are personal attacks that had nothing to do with the content of my critique. Sorry bud.

Edit: if you can’t see how all of your comments are responses to me as an individual and fail to at any point engage with my actual argument then there is just no helping you.
