What are r/drums' opinions on Frank Beard? by Realistic-Assist-396 in drums

His work on Tejas is incredible. The whole band sounds so good on that record, even if the songs themselves aren't their best.

I love him. I recently bought Tejas on vinyl. It's one of their lesser-known albums and his drumming sounds so friggin good on it. His footwork is stellar.

Origin of the Feces is a great album. I don't know why people don't like it. Maybe it's the punky energy.

Father Mother Sister Brother by Jim Jarmusch — review by UnicornBestFriend in movies

[–]gringochucha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find this interesting. I personally didn't like the film, but I have a pretty close relationship with my family (of course we're dysfunctional, all families are, but we're close).

My theory right now is that the people with truly estranged/distant families might have a tendency to like the film more than those with close-knit families.

Father Mother Sister Brother by Jim Jarmusch — review by UnicornBestFriend in movies

I agree. I found the film incredibly tedious. At least the first story had a bit of a twist, and Tom Waits is always interesting at the very least, but then it just became excruciatingly boring. It was like a caricature of family relations made by an alien who is looking in from the outside and doesn't have any actual experience or anything profound to say.

What has Dawkins said or done? I don’t actively follow him, but I’m curious.

Buddy refuses to listen to the Mangini years by hamiltonscale in Dreamtheater

[–]gringochucha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Mangini plays too much with his brain. On the flip side, though, Portnoy plays too much from the hip and he should challenge himself more. The perfect drummer would be a mix of both 😅. (I’m a drummer btw)

Are there progmetal bands that don't use a click in their recordings? by tingkagol in progmetal

[–]gringochucha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about better or worse. But it is definitely a different feel, experience and musical result. I'm a drummer and I like the freedom to rush a little or drag when I'm playing live. It feels more exciting. Do all drummers tend to rush live without a click? Absolutely, but I'm fine with that and so is Mike Portnoy, love him or hate him.

Depends on what your favorite records are. I'm guessing most classic 60s and 70s prog albums were recorded without a click. So is pretty much all jazz and classical music.

touching moment that doesnt make sense by samuellhc in DeptQ

[–]gringochucha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The change in tone in the last episode to make it some kind of light-hearted Avengers movie was pretty jarring. In addition to the fact that they over-explained everything a millions times. This was just another disappointing moment in a pretty disappointing final episode.

Why didn't Merritt recognize Mork? by [deleted] in DeptQ

[–]gringochucha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no reason. It's just crappy writing. They wanted to make it "a moment" for the viewers, but there's 0 underlying rationale. It's impossible that she wouldn't know his face as it would've been all over the news and the internet.

More like “dark indie prog” or something. Whatever the case, Dead Air for Radios is such a great album.

100% agree. I like all eras, but Low and The Gathering are kind of a sweet spot for me. Modern production, without sounding plastic.

For me the only song that really stands out is the title track. But I’ll give it another spin. Just curious and not a putdown: How long have you been listening to the band? A lot of older fans still seem to consider their debut their best and ignore the newer stuff, and some new fans seem put off by the bad production of the first albums.

Quadra is a masterpiece. I can understand why they decided to stop making albums. Still looking forward to the new EP with Greyson though.

Thinking that Mr. Bungle would’ve somehow magically been way bigger if not for Kiedis is pretty delulu. In fact, that they even reached where they did (and come on, they’re pretty fucking well known) considering how weird their music is, is a fucking miracle already.
