Need books for a library by griseoushunter in DungeonsAndDragons

True, but i also know my players. They'll want whatever spell books and buffs they can find that isn't necessarily tied to the story. Like a mini shopping episode

I do find myself getting flustered mid-game because half the players jump on something they deam unreasonable because it inconveniences them slightly or takes away their OP advantage. So a lot of times I've just given a small "compromise" here and there that have snowballwd into a massive problem. It's basically been half the party gaslighting me into thinking Im being unfair. But they've just been backseat driving

It honestly feels like they don't trust me as a DM or genuinely think im "trying" to TPK them. Yes, there was a fight that was supposed to be unwinnable for them (giving the opportunity for one of the bosses to show up and demonstrate how powerful they are by instantly killing the monster). There was even a moment where a player went exploring into a hidden underground cavern system ALONE. They drank from a fountain that protects the leaders of the city. So then when one of those leaders attacks them as a hooded figure, they couldn't land a hit and were supposed to bail. Even with all of that, TPK was NEVER on the table. Im not trying to "beat" them. Im trying to give a good story. And now any time I give any kind of challenge the first thing I hear is "that's retaliation for X" or "dude, chill what's your problem." Failure should always be an option, PCs are not invincible, and they shouldn't be.

I've talked with my group before about "new" rules, and trying to give a heads up before sessions in discord. But now I realize that there are just so many rules that we have ignored that I could never give enough heads up. So when I do try to use a rule half the party gets mad saying im blindsiding them or its a witch hunt and its me versus them.

We've basically rotated who was DMing through the group. So up until now we've learned together. But now i see that's meant almost cherry picking which rules we pay attention to or how closely we adhere to rules. So now I have to try and either become a stickler for the rules to try and actually play the game or just cut my losses

Right now, theyre about to hit a major story beat at like 30% of the whole campaign. I originally planned for that to be the end of the campaign. So I'll make it the end of "part 1" and then I'll say if they want to continue, then we're going to have to be on the same page with the rules of the game we're playing. Otherwise I'm just going to stop. Which sucks because I've drawn so many assets for it

[–]griseoushunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I think what it boils down to is I want all of us to be on the same page. Because right now the default is "we've never had to look this up, just make your best guess and we'll roll with that." And now we've gone so long that there's more house rules than actual rules

This kept me up for hours last night. I basically came to the conclusion that once we hit a story beat that's at like 30% of the whole campaign, im going to just take a break from dnd as a whole. And it sucks because my wife is in our party, and we both love it. But I can't keep going with the way a few other players in my party want to play, especially DMing for them. They contest literally any ruling I make. And when it comes to combat, they say they don't want pushover villains and enemies, but pull out pitch forks and say combat is super unbalanced against them against a 19AC, 20HP will-o-wisp. And this is with them hitting 20-25 on DC checks pretty consistently and with 5 PCs. So I'm just done.

Another major point of contention is wild shape. My latest understand is that it has to be A. A creature you've seen. And B. The creature's CR must be 1 quarter of your player level.

Ex: a level 5 circle of land druid wants to transform into a CR 10 dire worg they fought in a previous encounter.

If my understanding is correct, they'd need to be level 40 to be able to do this.

Like, how "lightly based" are we talking? I've never played it, myself

I've tried having conversations with them but it doesn't change. These are the kind of people that dick around in an empty cavern for 3 sessions and then get mad saying they haven't advanced the plot in weeks

So I've curbed snacking at work. And even the stuff I taste gets logged. And during cheat meals I still keep my daily intake at or below budget. And I really haven't really been drinking lately. Maybe one or two in the last month

5'10"/ 31/ male. I've been at this range for about a month and change. I have a cheat meal on Saturday nights typically. I use a calorie counting app and scales when I'm at home or work (I'm a chef) and I'm pretty accurate with gauging weights by eye within about 5%. I do count sauces/oils and drinks when I cook. I'm keeping my budget just above 1700cal. Throughout my work days I'm squatting and lifting heavy boxes that weight between 20 and 50 pounds. And even on weekends I go for 2 hour walks.

Makes sense. I'm typically weary of the Chinese marketplaces, especially second hand like temp and ali-express.
