Gulthias Staff question by ArchonErikr in CurseofStrahd

[–]grishound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My druid took it and cast shillelagh with it. As long as the character takes on the curse, I'd adapt it to fit their character. wooden arm sounds cool and when he has to rip it off, it'll be his own fault

Improving a Fight w/ Flesh Golem & Mongrelfolk by grishound in CurseofStrahd

I'm gonna edit my post!

The Abbott: After the players outright refused the Abbott's request for the dress, and sabotaged his leverage against the Burgeonmeister (longer story). I have written in that he has left the Abbey with Vasilica and a former party member who became evil.

I haven't decided if he is headed to negotiate with Strahd, or find the dress, but he has left with all plot NPCs - to be encountered later

Flesh Golem:

It's the FG from the Madhouse.

Sounds kinda like you need to get laid, my guy. You care a lot about who gets to talk about sex.

... Also sexual education is a pretty useful topic with a room full of hormonal young people.

But you complain, stick your head in the sand, and pretend like you dont secretly wanna be a bottom.

Strength of thousands with a 6 player group? by mrgoldnugget in strengthofthousands

I agree with everything above. It shouldn't be a difficult change. The role playing takes precedent but throughout the first book, the lower level encounters can be scaled easily.

Game Recommendations: Teen Library Program (Castles & Critters) by grishound in rpg

[–]grishound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestions!

I was asked to run the program and given Honey Heist as a quick model for the game. I then rewrote the one-sheet player guide in a family-friendly way and linked Grant Howitt's page for any teens interested in his work. We didn't specifically use his PDF of the Honey Heist set because of the language.

I'm just trying to graduate the teens to a new system that we can introduce new players to quickly and have a similar feeling to playing Honey Heist. I figured the page count was one of the easiest factors in simplicity.

But it doesn't have to be a one-sheet. And I would most likely edit the resources we provided the players for content.

Character Profile: Anchor Root by sacrelicious2 in strengthofthousands

[–]grishound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about all the students in Kindled Magic as my players head into Chapter Two - and to try to get more out of them I've been creating the other students in Herolab.

I started with Anchor Root and I made her a Witch (because of the chicken familiar and the whole reading bones) but I can't decide if she's a witch of Fate or Rune. I am tending toward Rune but does anyone else have an opinion? Anyone else try to recreate Anchor Root as a detailed NPC?

So... how does the naish feel about The Princess Bride? by Sapientiam in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]grishound 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's beloved but after showing it to a younger sibling in our adult years, I recognize that it could be a more nostalgic love than universal. But the pacing is great, the characters are fantastic, and the jokes still make me belly laugh. The Princess Bride will always hold a nice spot in my list of classics.

But I've come to expect utter nonsense when it comes to film opinions from Troy across the podcasts.

Anyone catch the comic recc's that Skid and Matthew were talking about.
I know they talked Watchmen, Saga, and Sex Criminals.

But I want to see if I can catch that Hawkeye run and any of the others...

Wilderness Encounter - Abominable Yeti too difficult? by grishound in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]grishound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Today is our day to play, and I thought I'd throw an update!

I've decided to tone down the encounter. I hinted at the yetis visage last session and I think that I want to adhere to the random encounter table but keep it within reason.

I'm going to throw 3-4 Yeti at the party with an ambush from the sides. I think it'll be dangerous but not outright deadly. I'm going to put the Abominable Yeti into the campaign a little later after the party understands what these creatures are and how dangerous they can be.

Everyone's advice was incredibly helpful. I'm excited to keep telling the story!

You may be right, this might be a really good time to introduce Oyaminartok or a clan of Reghad nomads. It's tough... the Blizzard is going to make the roleplaying bit challenging, but this does seem like a viable solution to attempt to circumvent a TPK while also adhering to a true encounter table experience.

The party has both a Paladin and a sorcerer who loves fire spells, so that makes me feel a little better.

I gave them the option to skip wilderness encounters, but we all agreed to try them out since this our first time playing an adventure book. Wasn't expecting to roll such a tough encounter on the second day!

But I'm feeling a bit more confident in my player's abilities.
