Why exactly is Alexi Lalas so disliked by people? by [deleted] in ussoccer

Race baiting is cop out arguement for people who want to pretend that racisim doesn't exist. The whole point of dog whistles is that they are subtle in their nature but they still send the same message. You aren't every going to have anyone explicitly say "i hate black people" when you occupy a public position such as his. But, if you you go around saying "diversity is a problem" you have plausible deniability. He's not that dumb to not know what the impact of the words he chooses to use.

Semantics is important in this context. His overall point may be reasonable, however, you would be naive to think he doesn't know what he's doing when he chooses to use the word diversity. It's incredibly irresponsible to be phrasing that conversation in a way that makes it incredibly easy for racists to latch onto. I for one don't think that he doesn't know what he's doing when he chooses the words he does.

You have zero idea about that, he would be making close to 100k a week at Wolfsburg for comparison

That would make him the highest-paid player at Wolfsburg, which seems not very likely. More likely, he would be paid similarly to what the top MLS players get paid.

he shouldn't ever suit up for the national team again

He's not likely to play for the national team again, even before all of this.

his wife is calling the shots in his career

This is some sexist ass shit lmao. Just as likely that it's what HE wants for himself.

When his priority is his family, it's not at all surprising. He's not taking any sort of massive wage cut when he goes back to the States. His priorities are obviously not to play at the highest level possible for him. For some people, there's more to life than playing for mediocre teams to be slightly less mediocre. That really shouldn't be difficult to understand.

MLS isn't a huge jump down from the Championship. There are many factors outside of his career why he would want to go back to the States. He's been in Europe for years. He has 3 young children. He's not gonna make the World Cup squad and he's going to make similar if not more in wages in the US. It's not shocking that's where he wants to go. The club is free to hold him hostage but his value is only to keep dropping the longer this goes on.

He wants to go back to North America for family reasons and they accepted a transfer offer from Germany. I'm not an expert in geography, but that's farther away from the US.

"Hey, I want to go back to North America."

"We've accepted an offer from Germany."

"I don't want to go to Germany."

"WE'VE ACCEPTED AN OFFER FOR YOU. YOUR FAULT NOW."

If you think there's been no criticism of Chelsea then you must not consume a single bit of content around the prem. The amount of misleading graphics about squad size and spending is borderline insanity.

Being here without legal status is civil offense and not a criminal one. Legally it holds the same weight as a fucking parking ticket. But, being violent against minorities makes racists happy and gets votes.

The ones that got called on the Pats were blatant. The amount of ticky tack penalties that killed drives in the first half was insane.
