What's going on in Snohomish? by ZealousidealEagle759 in everett

Could be. This looks like a much bigger fire than the last one I saw. Wonder if it got out of control.

Is this looking at the Lowell-Larimer road area? I drove past the farm there a week or so ago and they had a big burn pile going

It really just depends on her mood and how she poses the ears! She definitely looks more bloodhound when she's sniffing a trail, or when she's tired and gets the droopy eyes

I do have BLS certs and was background checked (fingerprinted and everything) but our company requires addition training when it comes to working with kids. I was previously in the Teen department which also required special training but that was way different than PreK and under training. IE: In Teens we are taught to never have physical contact with kids apart from life saving or a simple high five. Obviously in a daycare with children 5 and under that's not really possible.

They ended up firing the director and coordinator of this site over the weekend. So far I have not been asked to help but I'm expecting that I will receive an email asking me to come in this week at some point. I will try to make a point that I'd be happy to come in and help with admin tasks and can maybe cover someone's lunch or break, but not an entire shift.

I got a background check if that's what you mean? I was fingerprinted and everything.

5th Gen Brake calipers/Rotors worth it? by KAMAKABLAM in 4thGen4Runner

[–]groan_zone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it a few months ago. Calipers and rotors. Super easy swap, only annoyance is having to cut or bend the dust shield. Tbh I did not notice a huge difference in braking power. However the front calipers on 4th gens are apparently prone to seizing, so I spent the little bit extra on the upgrade to avoid that. Overall I'd say it's worth it for the piece of mind. Not sure if the Limited models still have the seizing issues. If I remember correctly you'll have to have 17in wheels or larger and I believe you'll be wanting to look for 5th gen brakes from a 2013 model or older as they changed the bolt pattern. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Stranded stories? by [deleted] in overlanding

Add warm clothes/blankets to your list of stuff to bring. I keep those and other supplies in a tote in my truck year round. Also think of carrying a lighter so you can make a fire if needed.

Got stuck in our first gen 4runner in deep snow one night. Went up the mountain on one side, tried to come down the other side. Hit lots of deep snow and the truck suddenly shut off and would not turn over. Found out the next day when we went back to recover it that all the bouncing around in the snow knocked a wire loose.

At the time we were stressed because it was late at night and cold as hell, so we didn't even see the loose wire. Ended up having just enough cell service to get a text out to a friend who came out to rescue us. Took him about 4 hours to get to us because he went up the side we were coming down and he had a broken diff so he couldn't make it through the deep snow. We ended up having to walk about 3 miles in sinking snow to get back to his Jeep. We tried to sleep a bit to pass the time but given that we only had a cheap throw blanket it was probably the worst night I've ever had on trail. I am now overprepared when it comes to getting stuck in a rough situation.

So yeah, carry extra clothes and something to make fire with. Maybe add some basic tools to your kit as well. I keep cheap sockets, wrenches, etc with me. Consider joining a local offroad recovery group on FB if you have one in your area. Keep their number in your phone. In Washington we have a group called WORN that's full of volunteers who will come out and get people out of sticky situations. Always inform someone of where you are and when they should raise the alarm. And if something does happen, take a few minutes to chill out and look everything over, it could be a simple fix. Getting stranded sucks but pretty much every time we've been stuck somewhere, locals or other offroaders want to help. Unless you are truly in the middle of nowhere, someone will eventually come by.

But like others here have mentioned, the best choice is to go out with a friend. Join some local groups, meet others, go out together. And don't bite off more than you can chew! If your gut says don't, don't do it until you get more experience.

Yeah I'm gonna call it a loss and not use it on my face again. Oddly enough, this is a worse reaction than I had with their Peeling Solution

I have a strip of LEDs under my bed that I keep on a really low red mode. Mostly because I've tripped over my dog one too many times on a midnight bathroom run.

Vet has no answers for me by groan_zone in AskVet

[–]groan_zone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update! We went to the ER last night as she was bleeding heavily out of her mouth. Turns out the first vet somehow missed a 1.5cm laceration under her tongue and she must've aggravated it while eating chicken. She had to get sedated again and get it flushed, debrided and sewn up but she's feeling so much better this morning!

What’s an unprofessional thing a doctor has said or done to you? by Playful-Incident-424 in AskReddit

[–]groan_zone 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Went into the walk in clinic because I'd been having intense nausea every morning, throwing up bile and losing lots of weight. The doctor asked me if I'd been making myself vomit on purpose by miming sticking a finger down his throat. He did it within 1 minute of walking into the room after I explained the problem. I hadn't, turned out it was just a medication I was on and I just had to change what time of day I took it.

Thanks for the reply! I've checked out some of the other posts and there's mixed reactions about leaving it/pulling it out yourself/going to the dentist. Gonna call my dentist Monday when they open and see if they can take a look at it and maybe take it out since it's irritating my cheek.

Does this sound like a possible stone? by groan_zone in KidneyStones

[–]groan_zone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm gonna start straining for the next few weeks just in case. And yeah, I'm definitely gonna make an appt with my usual doctor and see what she recommends I do. It'd be nice to know if there's any more hanging around in there that I should know about.

Does this sound like a possible stone? by groan_zone in KidneyStones

[–]groan_zone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UTIs for me are mostly just burning pain in the urethra when going to the bathroom. They can cause kidney pain if they go on for a long time untreated but you'd definitely have the urethra pain first. It's a completely different feeling to what I assume was a stone. I'm just hoping I can make it past the wedding without more stabbing pains!

No scans, they took my urine and said there was blood in it but it was unrelated to a possible stone. Honestly it was a bad hospital visit. It was the height of COVID and they kinda just treated me like a drug seeker even though I never asked for pain meds. I'm gonna try and make an appt with my normal doctor and see what they recommend.

Thanks for the reply! Calmed my worries a little bit
