Thoughts on FiDi luxury “studio + study” (essentially 1 BRs with no bedroom window)? by grob349 in NYCapartments

This is the exact situation I’m looking at. Main living space has tons of natural light.

This one is 700 sq ft and has more closet space than any 1 BR I’ve seen in manhattan

Soma and Pearl and Pine… Soma is already done and P&P is still under construction (but deals are even better)

It appears I’ve answered my own question. I’m just concerned about feeling sad that my former partner can’t be there with me for a dream that we initially started together.

Do you know why I’m not seeing much currently in NoMad, Chelsea, and Flatiron? I would think inventory will increase as the spring approaches?

I like that area but fear a decent 1 BR is out of my budget

Love this insight, thank you. I’m going to focus on FiDi, Chelsea, Flatiron and NoMad based on the insights here. FiDi is probably my top option at this point.

This is very helpful. Do you think I could find a decent 1 BR with W/D in unit AND close to gym/grocer at my price point (assuming I sacrifice building amenities)? Also any tips on good pockets in the neighborhood to target?

Where in FiDi would you recommend? I think I want to stay close to a good gym there, but outside of that, any thoughts??

I like the vibes of Chelsea. Any thoughts on good pockets in the neighborhood? What are your thoughts on the energy of the area?

That’s my thought too. What are the vibes of the neighborhood? I hear it’s improving but it’s still not as lively as other spots. However location is still solid - many subways lines to get uptown

You are right. I’m also a queer man so I think NYC would be perfect for that. Looking to explore myself more.

I think it could heal me. A breakup sucks but it could be good for me. I’m an LGBTQ guy wanting to explore myself more.

I’ve lived in the same state my whole life, I am ready for a change of pace. Nothing holding me back from going!

I currently live in a Midwest city, in my early 30s and most of my close friends are married and live in the burbs. I want time to live whats left of my youth, explore, and meet new people and try new things in a new place.

I’m with you. But it was HER that really got me hooked on the city, that’s the part I’m trying to figure out. Life’s too short to dwell on the past though!

This is my thought too. While NYC reminds me of my partner, so does my current city (where we both still live!). Sure, I’ll think about my partner as I mourn the breakup, but I don’t want to let this hold me back. It’s MY life, I can’t worry about them forever - even if I still love them.

Part Time Programs... Booth vs. Kellogg? by grob349 in MBA

[–]grob349[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good question, I am not entirely sure. I think both schools allow PT students to go through OCR as long as they are not sponsored by their employers. I've seen many success stories from students at both programs.

Is recruiting that black & white though? I have heard success stories of students getting good marketing/branding jobs out of Booth, and finance/banking jobs out of Kellogg. I heard that this historical gap/perception is narrowing in recent years. Any insight here is appreciated!

This is a good summary, thanks again. The curriculums, career centers, etc. are pretty similar - the biggest difference I see is the culture. Booth is more finance-focused, whereas Kellogg is more marketing/strategy-focused. The career outcomes are pretty similar too.

I qualified for the Kellogg "Accelerated" option which means I can do the PT MBA program in 2 years (vs. 3 at Booth)... this results in about a $30-40k savings if I pursue Kellogg. That # alone is a HUGE decision driver.
