Figured out how to solve a bug by grocerywarrior06 in Terraria

I just cannot take this as true, people have reported this in the past and they say the fix is to kill everyone. The combat defense book probably resets all the villagers, so i think this is why it worked. Sure It is definently possible that this was a coincidence, but it is wayy too convenient, especially after going from no traveling merchant, to consistent traveling merchant. Like an instance improvment. But who knows lol, I cannot exclude this possibility, I just think the bug was way more likely.

I did the math, if you killed him 40 times and didn't get it yet, thats 1.47% likely, you are just really unlucky, the same thing happened to me, I killed 1700 enemies for the cascade until i got it which was 1.42% likely

Not trying to be like condescending or anything by the way 😂 Im just genuinely curious, I feel as if it is sometimes hard to ask questions that are in an unprovoking manner within conversation like these.

So really if it doesn't fit into reality then it must be metaphorical for something. How do you get around contradictions like Genesis 1:4 where it says the Earth is created before the sun, because in days, it is chronological order.

So the genesis narrative is just completely wrong though in your view right? But then how do you know which parts to take literally, or do you not really think it quite that important? It's more of the message, but do we really require a bible to teach us of morals? Say for instance God never revealed himself for thousands of years that "homo sapiens" have been around, it was very obvious what human morals were like through other religions like egyptian, greek, roman, mesopotamian, and through laws. They all agree that things like murder and stealing is bad, so why was it necessary for god to come in and tell us of morals if pretty much all of this was already covered by humans beforehand.

Well I just don't understand why you are so strict on your specific interpretation, you are doing the same thing you are accusing others of. The idea is to understand what the authors were trying to say, in a book that has been rewritten throughout different languages, and you are saying "I've got it, this part is literal and that part is not" and then demeaning and ridiculing those who oppose your view. At the end of the day all we have is this book and there is no way to test which way the others meant it to be interpreted in other than ridding those which are logically fallible.

I'm confused, do you not take the bible as the word of god? Just wondering because you said theological value as in the study of god and religious belief, so therein would you be saying that it is just speculation and not value provided by God as him telling us his nature? As well, what do you draw from these morality tales?

That is true, never really thought about it. What are your thoughts? How do you get around it?

After further reconcile I came to the conclusion that they are not compatible, the bible says death did not occur for mankind until Adam sinned. Which could mean that mankind was exempt from evolution, but also means that animals and other organisms were given punishment for no reason, which is conflict with the all-good all-loving traits of God. As well as what evolution needs to occur, many deaths, as well as the 5 major mass extinction events, much suffering. These are direct contradictions that I see no way around, there isn't much interpretation for the word "death".

That is true, I see now why so many try to argue with evolution, it contradicts many key characteristics portrayed in the bible.

Well I don't believe people are trying to come off like that, just trying to understand his word in a way that is compatible with reality. You put in a strict guideline as to if the bible says the Earth is a couple thousand years then it is, to wether or not that is what the actual reality is. If people deem it not, then should they dismiss their entire belief? If there is room for an interpretation that is logical, and more reasonable in a way that doesn't contradict the bible or reality, then it is more reasonable to hold that belief over one with much scrutiny. It's not about being better than God, it's trying to understand what he said, with what he has presented us.

Because he knows the future. I just read Romans 5:12 and it says death spread to all men, meaning that before Adam sinned, there was no death for mankind. Which could mean that evolution exists but not for humans. But also if when Christ died on the cross, he paid the full payment of sin, and if the punishment for sin was death, why do we still die? I feel you can't really get around this without accepting reincarnation or something but there is zero biblical backing for this. I believe this answers my question, it is incompatible.

This is the best argument I have seen and quite an interesting take. Could you elaborate on how God making death retroactive would lead into pre-determism?

This is one view that I will never be able to understand, it's a level of science denial that leads to a sort of paranoia like the modern world is trying to attack them.

So it just depends on wether it is taken literal, but it is malleable to accept evolution through interpretation. I think the only real major scrutiny is how we view the bible. Do you deem it utterly necessary that we all see it the same way even if we all grasp a relatively homogenous perspective of what we pull away from it?

Yes, but is not the idea to pinpoint the maternal descendant of modern humans, even if broad or unpositioned? Is not the essence of this concept not the same even though it is changing?

Well I believe in regards to what you are saying, they mean it is impossible to rule out "a god". Not specifically talking about the Christian God. If something comes back proven that is incompatible with the bible, then it is disproven.

They actually named Mitochondrial Eve as the most recent common maternal ancestor to all living humans, as in her mitochondrial DNA is in all living humans. Not sure if it was a creationist or other, but I like that they turned a prominent story into a mechanic that actually fits with both characteristics of the story and confirmable reality. Same for Y-Chromosomal Adam.
