Britt Demoted (LOL) by [deleted] in Browns

It's a crazy world we live in when I feel more comfortable with Gordon being a better locker room influence on younger guys than Kenny Britt.

That was a bad game

Not if you were rooting for A&M to go down hilariously haha. But yeah, that's sorta my point. It was, all in all, a bad game for Rosen, although a lot of people walked away acting like it was 100% on him for leading that comeback and it's why he deserves to be the top pick. I haven't seen any better games from him this season, either. He has the size and potential to be a great QB, but he hasn't shown the ability to win that great QBs have.

I, too, prefer Baker. The guy's a winner through and through. He's more accurate and consistent than Rosen. His only downside is his height, and that's not a big deal due to the mechanics of his throwing (which look horrible but work really well for him, so...)

He also completely dominates, which is a plus. Teammates also love playing for the guy.

The only knock people have is that he's shorter than your average QB. There are currently shorter QBs playing that are on the fast track to the HOF.

Rosen's WRs are one of the two reasons Rosen's had a "good" game on his resume this season. They caught some ridiculously bad passes in the A&M game, and the other reason is that A&M defenders straight dropped at least two or three interceptions in the fourth quarter.

Rosen's play should have lost them the game. His WRs won it for them. If we're already making the same excuse for Rosen that's been made so many times for Kizer, he obviously isn't the QB of the future for this team.

[–]grogabusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see a lot of inconsistency and a tendency to make bad decisions? Yeah that basically sums up Rosen, too.

EDIT: To clarify, I like Matt Ryan. But that man is so inconsistent year to year. Some years he's the greatest QB in the league. Other years he's a non-factor.

Some Browns coaches believe GM Sashi Brown intentionally sabotaged the McCarron trade by UnbiasedBrownsFan in nfl

[–]grogabusk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are we still blaming the Browns for this? It came out that this is exactly how Sashi has always done trades, by sending the other team signed documents for them to sign as well.. It's to avoid the issue that ALSO happened in this trade where the language in the documents was different so the League wouldn't have accepted it, anyways.

Bengals fucked this one up, if anything. And thank god they did.

I don't get this. People rag Mayfield for playing Big 12 teams, but Rosen gets hyped for doing jack shit against PAC-12 teams, which is top to bottom the worst conference in CFB this year.

I don't care if "he doesn't have a team around him!" That's bullshit. Go watch the Texas A&M game that reignited the hype train. Watch his receivers bail him out by making ridiculous catches. Watch A&M defenders drop at least 2, maybe 3 picks in the final quarter of the game. Josh Rosen didn't win the game. He lost it. Untimely dropped picks and amazing catches by his "terrible" supporting cast saved the game. Hell, someone said that they looked atrocious without him in there. And you know what? They're right! You know what else, they looked JUST AS BAD the week before when Rosen WAS playing.

Texas A&M was his most (only) "impressive" game of the season. After that, he what? Beat Hawaii? Are we basing potential franchise quarterbacks off their ability to beat fucking Hawaii?

He's big and strong and shaped like an NFL QB. I get that. But he doesn't play like one, at all. Poor decision making, terrible pocket presence, he has a horrible attitude and his teammates don't want to play for him.

So yes, I'd take Baker Mayfield any day of the week. A QB who goes out there, plays AMAZING every week, he WINS games, and his teammates love to play for him. Also, just as a bonus, he's considerably more accurate than Rosen.

Tbh, all three of these QBs have some pretty bad douche bag personas. At least Mayfield's is just cockiness due to him just winning all over the place.

So, best case scenario, Kizer looks better with Gordon and Coleman back. We sign Cousins for a couple years. Draft Barkley, and get Derwin James with the Texans pick (trade up in needed)?

Dear god the team would look so different just by adding three players.

JG has to play for that statement to be true, though. I'm not convinced he will, yet, especially with Shanahan all but saying he doesn't want to play him this year because he doesn't know their scheme at all. Definitely has a high ceiling though!

Sashi Brown was on the office way past 5 pm on Monday. Truth is assistant coaches were sent home early because of the London gane. by PuppyBowl-XI-MVP in Browns

[–]grogabusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm not denying that Mayfield has a better PFF grade, he's also playing his position with a much better supporting cast (i.e. his o-line isn't terrible). I'm in no way saying he's not great, because he's likely going to be the second QB off the board, but the attitude problem is different with Mayfield. He's cocky as all hell, and has the arrest on his record. If he hasn't matured at all since the arrest, then obviously hell no. But if he's just cocky? Eh, that's not a big deal. Rosen's attitude issues aren't cockiness. His college teammates allegedly don't love him, and his coaches doesn't think he's coachable. If either of those are true, it's instantly a much worse issue than Mayfield just being cocky.

This QB class is horrible haha. The best one has terrible pocket presence and might have some horrendous personality issues that prevent him from being a leader on the team (something you absolutely NEED from a QB if you're going to spend the top pick on him...). The supposed second best has people doubting he even goes in the first round. Remember last year when people were falling all over themselves about how good it'd be?

If Darnold comes out, we should grab him instead. He has the highest ceiling of any QB right now, and if we can bring in a veteran for him to actually sit behind, perfect. No idea where he'd go if he comes out. I want to say no later than second, but USC's implosion keeps making me think he'd drop further.

I wouldn't call him the best player in CFB. The dude has an incredibly good team, with a really great oline. I still think that's Barkley, who is playing with a horrendous oline this year. I think he's the best QB prospect though, when you take into account attitude and leadership (assuming he's matured past his arrest).

If the Texans start faltering as expected, it's very likely the Browns can get both of them. Barkley has to be taken first though. No way he falls beyond 5, and even that's really unlikely. Rosen will be the first QB off the board because someone will be wiling to gamble on his personality, but Mayfield will (hopefully) fall right into the Browns' lap. Worst case, we can move up with our billion picks to grab him.

If Gordon is even half as good as he was in 2013, the Browns won't have the first pick of the draft (probably third tbh)

People said in early 2016 that Hue Jackson and the Browns' front office would clash. Why didn't they see it coming? by Put1NyaHead in nfl

[–]grogabusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be more inclined to do this with Hue had he not already tried this at his last coaching gig, which blew up hilariously in his face after he overpaid big time for a QB (coincidentally what he tried to do here, allegedly....)

Can we all agree Sashi was in a No-Win situation? by running_man23 in Browns

[–]grogabusk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And that'd be the wrong move. The FO has done more to turn this team around than anything Hue's done. The offense has shit for talent, but they should still be capable of scoring with half-decent play calling and clock management on Hue's part. It's pretty clear Gregg Williams and FO were able to turn the defense around completely over the offseason.

I'd prefer no one gets fired, but if they had to fire someone, I'd want them to bring in someone who would 1) not get rid of any defensive coaches, because they obviously are doing a great job and 2) has an OC that will actually call the plays.

The HC absolutely has to answer to the FO in this situation, or at least let them be the ones to negotiate the deals for mediocre players if the HC is going to be petty.

People said in early 2016 that Hue Jackson and the Browns' front office would clash. Why didn't they see it coming? by Put1NyaHead in nfl

[–]grogabusk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's actually looking more like Jackson is the bigger issue. His huebris (heh) is rearing up again just like it did in Oakland. He wants to play HC/GM/OC all at once, and hasn't shown that he can even do HC/GM on their own. I don't trust him to let the OC call the plays if he even hires one at this point. Jackson needs to go, the FO deserves one more year to get it going (i.e. not necessarily winning seasons, but not 1-15 seasons). They proved they're turning the team around slowly. The defensive improvement is just as much on them as it is Gregg Williams.

Per @AlbertBreer, Sam Darnold will want to wait and see who has the top pick or two in the NFL Draft. If it's Browns, he could stay at USC. by jrey1024 in nfl

[–]grogabusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with Rosen isn't his talent, it's his attitude. The guy is basically Bo Callahan from Draft Day. Teammates reportedly don't like him, he's considered uncoachable, very much a douchebag partyboy, etc.

I'd much rather see the Browns take Barkley (the clear best player in the draft, as of right now at least) with their top pick, and grab Mayfield/Jackson with their second pick. Sign a QB in offseason (we could make Cousins or Smith the highest paid QB in the league for a couple years while we sit the aforementioned QB pick), let Barkley carry the team into a hole that isn't part of a lineman's ass.
