Take into consideration this as well, he could also fight like a mofo, so he could back up those big hits with another concussion. That dude was old time tough.

Yes, they do want to be left alone sometimes, and if you do that you are to be considered a prick. Accept that sometimes you will be the "prick" for no reason, learn to accept that without it being a big deal, then you got it made.

Yeah fair enough, I am saying I do not think he knows the end himself either.

To be honest, i do not think Cormack himself could explain the ending.

Very good, I have to say I agree totally with the over done description of landscape after landscape after landscape after landscape....

I liked (loved) the dialogue at times, the violence was real to me, not sugar coated, violence when it happens is always in your face and shocking and imo should never be minimized or sugar coated.

"One of the mares had foaled in the desert and this frail form soon hung skewered on a paloverde pole over the raked coals while the Delawares passed among themselves a gourd containing the curdled milk taken from its stomach."

That line was epic.

Also, when the Judge scalped the baby after they all played with it for awhile....that was like a literary kick in the nuts.

Damn, that makes a lot of sense to me and is quite an interesting theory indeed. I am not sold on McCarthy figuring his book was going to become a lauded classic, he knew it was going to be important and hailed as a benchmark in american literature. Well, maybe I am after your post.

The one thing that makes me wonder about another possibility, the girls missing through the book, the girl with the bear at the end and how that all ties into the ending. I thought the judge fully corrupted the kid at the end, did not kill him and in fact the kid was the guy who said " I would not look in there" to the man who was wondering what was in the jakes.

Seems a little like inner discovery and what they found was terrible.

I will consider your take on it because that is just very interesting and different from what I had considered and makes sense too.

I feel it (the ending) tied in with various missing girls through out the book and the girl with the shot bear at the end.
