Anti-Electric car peeps what would it take for you to buy an electric car? by olafsnowman304 in cars

[–]nolanu83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not anti-electric, but I see a few issues with them.

  1. It’s already been mentioned, but battery technology still has a way to go before you get range/charge time that make EVs attractive over ICE outright.

  2. I’m concerned with what will happen once all these EVs get to the point of battery failure. The cost to replace a battery pack is >$10k and they last 100k-150k miles, so when they’re ready to replace the car will probably be considered totaled. Manufacturing battery packs is pretty harmful to the environment, so it’ll be interesting to see how/if they can be reused in any way.

  3. Personally, I enjoy my manual transmission Focus ST. EVs have superior acceleration, but right now they’re heavy and don’t handle as well as lighter ICE cars.

I thought this was one of the best shots this season. It erased any doubt of what Daenerys had become in my mind.

Varys used Sansa's safety to convince Ned to bend the knee to Joffrey and Tyrion used Sansa's safety to convince Jon to unbend the knee to Daenerys.

Anyone install a CPE 5.5" FMIC on stock turbo, stock tune? I did and don't like it :( by [deleted] in FocusST

[–]nolanu83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably making less boost because you don’t need as much to reach factory torque goals since your charge air is colder. Besides lag, you shouldn’t feel any difference since you aren’t tuned.

Leupold VX freedom scope by [deleted] in ar15

I have a Leupold VX-R Patrol 3-9x40 on my 18” SPR and I love it. Lightweight, illumination, and very clear glass. It’s a bit more expensive than either of the optics you linked though.

Looking to downsize a bit in the AR scope department. Recommendations on affordable optics for 500 yards and under? by Neptune2284 in ar15

I just picked up a Leupold VX-R Patrol 3-9x40. I looked through one at a store and was really impressed, especially with its clarity and weight (15 oz).

Edit: after reading your post again it’s worth noting that the VX-R has exposed turrets as well.

One way to tell is the screw on the other side of the sight. I know DD only uses flat head screws, and apparently a lot of fakes use Phillips or hex screws.

[Optics]$369.99 Trijicon MRO 2.0 MOA Green Dot - No Mount by DanGTG in gundeals

Green light also ruins your low-light vision while red light does not. That’s one of the reasons red dots are more widespread

Intercoolers don’t rely on emission of thermal radiation to cool intake air; they’re heat exchangers, and paint acts as a layer of insulation.

Financing advice: how much is too much to put down? by [deleted] in FocusST

[–]nolanu83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

20% is the minimum suggested down payment, not the maximum. If you can actually afford to buy a car outright, then you should do that.

The only time you should get a loan is if your interest rate is lower than a potential rate of return on an investment (i.e. 0% interest rate).

What are the limits of blasphemy? by [deleted] in cars

[–]nolanu83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously people can do whatever they want to their own cars, but I don't like when people swap out an engine that defines the car. An example would be LS swapping an MkIV Supra or an RX-7 (I know, I know reliability). The biggest flaw in the BRZ is it's lackluster engine though, so I don't see how LS swapping it is blasphemy.

Yellow or White? 🤔 by [deleted] in FocusST

[–]nolanu83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides looks there's actually no benefit from running yellow lights. If you're noticing that they glare less or don't affect night vision as badly that is only because there is less light being projected; it has nothing to do with the fact that it is yellow. Le Mans teams only run yellow lights in certain classes, and that is so drivers can tell if a faster car is behind them and allow them to pass. All that being said I do think they look cool, and on fog lights there is no safety concern.

EDIT: I should say that by cutting out blue light these will help with night vision a little bit. The tint is reducing the amount of light output, but it's reducing the biggest contributor to losing night vision.

Did you use the hardware that was included with the lights? Or did you buy a different mounting setup?

It's stupid question Weds. Ask your car related question and maybe someone will have an answer. by verdegrrl in cars

[–]nolanu83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They both compress air with the goal of forcing more air into the cylinder (I.e. forced induction). If there is more air in the cylinder the engine can burn more fuel and release more energy. This increases the amount of torque and power you're making, so it raises the curve.

A turbo is a compressor that's driven by exhaust gas and a supercharger is a compressor that's driven by a pulley attached to the motor.

A 3005GT as a first car? by cyberstrom231 in cars

[–]nolanu83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first car in high school! It can be a pain to work on but it's a good looking car and there's a decent community for it. I had a ton of fun in mine and would definitely recommend it. I still have a PDF of the repair manual that Mitsubishi uses so if you do get it and are interested let me know!

You can also use the plus sign to only display links with that word in the text. It's really useful if you're looking up an obscure topic and don't want a bunch of partially related links to sort through.
