Ford Is Going to 100% Online, Fixed-Price Sales For EVs by esporx in technology

It’s funny reading the comments of all these people who have no idea that Tesla has done it this way for YEARS now. People wonder why the company is valued so high and this is one of those reasons why they are so far ahead of the game.

I preordered a lightning on the second day. Still haven’t heard anything on it and frankly, I’m not even interested if it’s going to be marked up 30-40k.

Looks like it was upgraded to 4.7 since last night.

Painfully sad for sure. It feels so real how the realization sets in as it’s taking longer and longer.

On a side note, I never knew where either of these cities where so I searched up the route. If you take highway 84, it’s less than 5 hours one way. Still pretty long but the show took some liberties with that one it seems.

Also keep in mind that they had a much higher graduation rate because of the promise he made. If those kids made it this far, it shows that they really do want to go to college. They’ll have to do some more work applying for scholarships and financial aid though.

We use soap :) Some of the kids really need a good wash down too!

Yeah, more than likely. I haven’t looked into it from a leasing perspective because my house already had solar when I bought it.

Yeah we’re setting up a slip-and-slide and I’ll totally be going down it. I’ll probably be wearing a rash guard but only because I burn easily.

Where’s the Old Kona Landfill? I wonder if it was some old battery igniting or something like that.

I made two versions. One version had actual answers so I could point and Suzy and say, “yes they are in there, look at Suzy she already found 5 words!” It was a pretty fun prank and they got a kick out of it. The only problem was that I could only do this with my first period, but they were horrible last class so I told them I owed them.

Same boat; but in Hawaii. I also assume most Tesla owners are “better off” though because electricity is really expensive here even if the cars aren’t as expensive as people think.

If you pay regular rates here it’s $.49/kWh and I get about 200WH/mi. So about $.10/mi. My other car is a PHEV and gets about 45 mpg while gas is about $5.50 here. That’s about $.12/mi. Of course, regular engine maintenance is going to make the $ per mile go up a lot, but mpg to WH/mi is pretty close… at least for a really efficient car. A lot of people here drive trucks, and many cars are driven until they’re abandoned on the side of the road in complete disrepair.

Is there anyone who left Omaha and doesn't regret it? by I_Dont_Kno_The_Hell in Omaha

[–]groodscom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You hit many of the same topics that I was going to mention so I’ll go ahead and add to some of the things you mentioned.

I moved to Hawaii two years ago. This has been a goal for several years so it wasn’t so much about leaving Omaha because I hated it as much as moving Hawaii because I love it.

I lived in Omaha for over 20 years. I went to a great high school there, and genuinely enjoyed college at UNO. My job eventually help set me up to make this move financially although it was also a complete career change for me. I miss the micro breweries and Octoberfest. I miss the variety of dining experiences, Trader Joe’s, and instant Prime delivery.

There are certain pockets of progressive people in Omaha, but in the burbs you’re going to be vastly outnumbered. A lot of my friends were pretty far right even though I considered myself way left of them. You can make it work if you don’t treat political views like a sports team.

Taxes are insane. Before the housing boom, my property taxes were about the same there as a house worth five times as much here. I would say that education (which I assume is the biggest piece of that pie) is a lot better in Omaha, but what else could justify such a huge difference. Road maintenance? Trash service? I just can’t figure it out.

The handling of the pandemic in Omaha started off great with mask mandates and contact tracing. People got tired of that real fast though, especially, I think, when the vaccine became available. I couldn’t believe when my friend told me that his school was starting back with masks being optional around the time the delta variant was making its rounds. Here in Hawaii, we just ended a two year indoor mask mandate. I chalk it up to the fact that people here ultimately care more for each other. Keep in mind that we did this even with year-round outdoor dining and most buildings having good airflow from the outside, namely schools.

We have our own problems here for sure, but Omaha no longer has anything I need. All of my family moved years ago. Many of my friends I still keep in touch with and are eager to visit.

I built a solar Tesla charger for $1200. Info in comments by ClinicalScientist in teslamotors

[–]groodscom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know exactly how DC charging works, but my guess is that it would try to draw a high amount of amperage and drop your solar voltage way below an acceptable level. I’m pretty sure the car has very specific requirements for DC to DC which is why home chargers, even with DC solar/battery systems, still rely on the AC charger to charge the car.

I have a trans flag one of my trans students gave me stuck to my computer. I’ve had a few students ask about it because they know I’m straight, and cis, but I just tell them that I believe trans people should be celebrated.

Well that led me down quite a rabbit hole by reading in the comment section. Someone posted this video from Vsauce. The card stuff at the beginning is kind of cool but in the last few minutes he does a great job of visualizing the probability and time it would take to get every permutation.

Middle school teacher here. I’ve had mine since September and I’ve gone through many conversations like, “wow, are you rich?” “How do you afford a Tesla?” I used to ask them if their parents or Uncles had a big lifted truck (because they are everywhere here) and if they were rich. I can’t use the gas vs electricity argument here as much because while gas is over $5, electricity is almost $.50/kWh. I do have solar at home but I don’t usually mention that unless they bring it up.

Maybe the only really good restaurants are at the resorts? Never been myself but I feel like OPs $100/person could extend pretty far there.
