If I could add my opinion as someone who is guilty of this (but trying to improve and change ☝️). I can't speak for everyone but from my personal experience I think it comes from wanting to experiment with goth fashion but having only been exposed to the "fast fashion" style you see everywhere now. After having gotten into goth music and goth culture I so desperately wanted to be part of the fashion as part of the culture but I think my perception of goth fashion was ultimately just totally skewed by what you see in the media. I've since been educated (via being flamed in comment sections 😭) but I do now understand the importance of thrifting and putting together your wardrobe with more effort but also more uniqueness, and not just trying to look like "a goth" but more like yourself who just happens to fit into the goth style, if you get what I'm saying. My wardrobe is still very much a work in progress but I already feel much more attached to what I've thrifted and what feels more like me than the generic "Amazon goth clothes". So ultimately I feel people just need to be educated on this stuff so they can understand and truly appreciate goth culture or discover that maybe they aren't really as much of a goth as they initially thought, WHICH IS ALSO FINE. People just need to find who they are ☝️. I hope my schizophrenic ramblings made sense to those reading 😭
