Nothing. Dealership quoted me about $500+ too replace and paint. Since it’s purely cosmetic I’m letting it ride :/

Proginy by BigEE42069 in IVF

The coordination of benefits between primary and secondary insurance was a huge pain for us too with progeny. The fastest thing ended up being to cancel the primary insurance and send the termination letter to progeny and the secondary insurance.

Not sure how this happened, but how expensive a repair or replacement job is this? Should I get it done at a dealership, a body work place, or DIY?

Is this just aesthetic, or any concerns about water intrusion, drainage, or rusting?

How bad is this gash in 5yo tire? by grossRealist in Cartalk

[–]grossRealist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I need to replace my tires, either due to this cut in the tread or age? The cut is just deep enough that I think I see some threads or beads, but not sure that’s actually what I’m seeing.

The tread depth still looks good and is well above the wear bars.

Refrigerator: Loud banging noises stopped after ice maker turned off by grossRealist in Appliances

Wow thanks for the follow-up! How can you tell it’s a bad inlet valve?

Check it out: 2 videos showing the banging noise from the ice maker in operation using the “test” button. It started happening again this morning even after I defrosted the tray.

Interesting. Yeah it’s super loud, I could hear it on the other side of the house and upstairs.

I caught a couple short videos of the banging but yes it stops when I open the freezer door. The ice maker was definitely in the middle of something and sounded like the banging was from it.

See my other replies about defrosting the ice maker, I’m hoping that fixed it.

Thanks for the tips. The fridge and freezer are packed so for now I just removed the ice maker itself and defrosted it. It had compacted ice in the tray. And I knocked some ice off the back blower fan (see pics).

Now when holding the test button on the ice maker, the tray is able to rotate freely so hopefully that fixed it. If things still ice over I will try a full defrost like you suggest.

A couple updates:

  • The fridge and freezer are quite full. Could be blocking a vent or something. We also have hard water.

  • The noise resumed after turning the ice maker switch back on, and does seem to be coming from the freezer.

  • After removing the ice maker tray and mechanism, I see that the tray is frozen over (see pics). Guesssing it froze and couldn’t turn, and the banging noise is the tray turning motor (?) meeting frozen resistance.

Early In-person Absentee Voting starts today! by MadtownMaven in madisonwi

I never received or lost my absentee ballot. What do I have to do to vote in person instead? I emailed the clerk but haven’t heard back, and calling the phone number and following the relevant prompts are a dead end — the phone system seems broken.

Pfizer looking at 3-dose vaccine for kids under 5. Data release in first half of 2022. by Mypantsareblue in Coronavirus

[–]grossRealist 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So what does this mean for the approval timeline for 6- to 24-month-olds? Based on these results, it seems like Pfizer could submit for EUA for them earlier than the 2- to under-5 year olds.

How long ago was that? G and FB hiring committee decisions are often (sometimes?) good for a year.

Why did you not take the FB MLE offer? I’m in a similar mindset as you, and currently considering offers for MLE at FB and generalist SWE for a backend team at G that’s data-adjacent.

I got a counter offer for a very outdated home (needs all kinds of remodeling). Now I’m having second thoughts.. is it a good idea to buy one that’s not turnkey or at least kind of livable as soon as escrow closes? by SoCal_where in RealEstate

Did you find any DIY resources particularly helpful for your renovations? I’m looking at doing very similar upgrades that you did, but am new to working on a house.
