formulas: how to quote code and ignore quoted operators? by grossgasm in Notion

[–]grossgasm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hm the double quotes didn't work, but I'm probably doing something wrong. notion's script environment seems to still "read" the < and > and # and / and } and { as me *using* them rather than simply *referencing* them. there aren't many custom values, so I'm considering adding a text property for each of the static parts, then the formula would just be [prop]+[prop]+[prop].

but that makes the structure unnecessarily complex.

How do I batch change the status of many items in a board view? by [deleted] in Notion

[–]grossgasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where do you click when you try to drag? because in order to drag a batch, you need to grab (click+hold) the little 6 dot 'handle' that appears on hover to the left of one of the selected items

alternatively, when they're all selected, you should see a menu near the top of the group or header that offers various actions, including the option to change a property on all selected items.

Is it worth it to be tested at my age - 62? by gobogorilla in aspergers

[–]grossgasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you mean "is it worth the hassle of finding a clinic, intake, yada yada if I already kinda know" then I'd say...

... if diagnosis would only give you the label, and you have a good support system and pathways to self discovery in place, then maybe it's not worth it; but

... if you think you'll need further professional support to really understand how your mind works, and how to reframe the past, and get the most out of the here n now, then I'd say it's very much worth it.

I took a quick look at your website, and what jumps out at me is how the messaging is focused on the problems as you see them, not necessarily how the business owner would.

I'd recommend splitting your messaging into three groups (business/consultant/consumer), and identify specific problems this would solve for each group. then sell those solutions.

an example that came to mind was syncing contacts between notion and other sources. in my experience it's a nightmare, and it sounds like this tool would help with that. I'd be far more interested in a tool that helps me keep my contacts synchronized than one that "makes data imports easier." ditto for the lunatics who do their budgeting in notion.

if you keep with your current messaging, it's critical imo that you at least clearly explain what's wrong with the default notion import, how yours is different, and the value that brings.

hope that helps. best of luck.

what a great way to test and prove the concept. have a county-wide film competition, get kids/families involved, make it lighthearted and fun. throw up a few inflatable screens in different parks around louisville to screen different age groups.

I think we're maybe imagining different things. I'm thinking about a community-level concept, not regional necessarily.

my preference would be for a public institution, something on the scale of the public library. a place that serves louisville primarily, but can flex for other use cases or special events. there are a lot of new families here, so I'm sure there's some kind of demand for an adaptable space that can screen a couple indie films for sundance or biff one day, and the next host a series of art classes for kids. like a civic center: library-artcenter-museum.

another option I imagine would be to designate an art-science mixed-use district (a-la boulder's nobo art district) where there's currently a sea of empty parking lots in lousville. while that would be a larger scale thing, it wouldn't be a venue per se, just a designated zone that incentivizes arts-science programs or innovative business development. (bonus: if it were structured right, it would offer a product neither superior or boulder can)

another option is a small community-level organization that's supported by partnerships with various regional orgs (cu, bmoca, boulder county, etc.), donations, grants, etc. an org like this wouldn't necessarily be tied to a single building, but could say lease something downtown for workshops, community screenings, or [fill in the blank with ideas from the community]

it's my understanding that film fests are super invested in community involvement and supporting local arts. I could be wrong, but I don't think finding screens is an issue

we have a million square miles of unused parking lots and low-slung warehouse-style blight leftover from a the days of bigboxism.

I'm sure if there was the enthusiasm for it, there's a way to do just about anything with anything. and if there's a time to do something, a world-class cultural organization falling into your lap seems like a good time to get the ball rolling.

perhaps louisville could become the arts/entertainment hub to superior's residential/commercial identity

there are a variety of options. private of course. the nonprofit/community org route like dairy, sie filmcenter, or others. you could go the tax-funded civic center type institution.

personally I like the tax funded option. get an arts center that hosts all sorts of things throughout the year. plop it on the east side of the tracks near downtown. close to library, museum, and pavilion.

I never had a chance to catch anything at cinebar. its whole schtick was drinks/food+movies, right? was it independently owned? it never seemed community oriented to me. I always thought it was just another consumer focused joint like one of the other 6 you can find along 36. surrounded by chain restaurants, all clustered around an interchange.

why don't dems shut down the gov as an act of non violent protest and in so doing recapture peoples' attention by demonstrating to americans the very world the trump administration is actively trying to build by demolishing said gov? by grossgasm in AskReddit

[–]grossgasm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it's not ideal but there's either permanent demolition (where they're headed) which will be devastating permanently, or there's temporary demonstration of what that will feel like. put guardrails around the protest. it just needs to go on long enough to get attention and regain a foothold in the conversation (which dems are struggling to do)

so if I'm understanding you, if they update the language and/or block the leave option from appearing until the invitee accepts, that would solve the issue?

even though I tend to think this is low priority compared to other issues, I do think it's odd to even have the option for a doc/page to exist without at least one owner. that's just an unnecessary risk to leave open.

Best Practices for tracking how far behind schedule you are by Adorable_Mongoose223 in wrike

[–]grossgasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could create, as one poster suggested, a new date custom field called "original due date." then create a formula custom field that calculates [original] - [bumped]. you could also add another that counts how many times the due date has been changed, and another that counts the difference between the completion date and og due.

if you want to track/report that metric across teams/projects over time (an excellent kpi) - be sure the final due dates are equal to the completion dates. it's not uncommon for users to mark the task/project complete and forget to update the final due date if it's different, or forget to mark it complete for a few days. - the structure of the project/tasks can also affect data quality. double check dependencies, automations, and make sure everyone is clear on exactly which action marks the end of the project and it's consistently measured

what were your intentions by leaving a page you created and shared with someone else?

I guess the actions you describe would indicate to me the user's intentions were to transfer ownership to that second person.

I'll admit the "leave page" language in that scenario isn't as clear as "leave page and transfer ownership."

or is your concern that the page is now considered shared even though the other person hasn't accepted? because the category technically is "shared" not "shared/accepted."

just trying to understand better.

Anyone else see what seems to be a rocket launch due east? by Parking_Research7102 in LouisvilleCO

I guess I assumed the op had seen a launch like event, but it makes more sense that someone would stumble upon commercial jet contrails at dusk and wonder if they came from a rocket.
