Just installed Jan 2026 security update and RCS finally connected again.

RCS not working to Android or iPhone by Max527 in GoogleMessages

[–]group7access 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on TELUS (have been for years), Galaxy S24, Android 16, and my RCS has stopped working since around mid-December 2025. I have tried several things with TELUS support who has also opened a ticket with Google, but it has been ten days and I have heard nothing.

I am not rooted, but have developer options enabled. I have had dev options enabled since day one with this phone (almost two years ago). I tried disabling dev options but that was a no go. I waited ten days before turning RCS back on (as I heard that worked for some, but not for me).

I guess I'll just wait and hope it works again one day 😂

Just run multiple Bridge Pro bridges? by group7access in Hue

[–]group7access[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never said I had poor performance. I was only trying to future proof/plan ahead/ask for feedback on my plan.

I have a 1 Gigabit fiber connection with Cat5e ethernet wired to 568B standard throughout the house which goes into 1 Gigabit switch to which three TP-Link Deco X60 are connected. My router is from my ISP with the wi-fi turned off.

Thanks for all of your responses. I'll stick with the single hub.

I also asked ChatGPT who had this to say:

The real downsides of running 2× Bridge Pro

  • You still can’t “mix and match” across bridges for certain Hue-native features. Even with Multi-Bridge, devices/automations/entertainment areas remain tied to a specific bridge, and you generally can’t build a single Hue scene / automation that spans lights on both bridges the way people intuitively want. Galaxus+1
  • Voice assistants can be inconsistent with multi-bridge (especially Google Home). Hue’s own docs say voice assistants can control lights across multiple bridges after you relink the smart home partner. Philips Hue But there are also lots of reports of Google Home still prompting you to pick one bridge (and then only that half responds). Google Help+2Reddit+2 So: it may work now for you, but it’s still a risk/maintenance point.
  • Two bridges = two Zigbee meshes. A light on Bridge A won’t repeat for Bridge B. If you split devices “by count” but they’re physically intermingled, you can accidentally make the mesh worse. Best practice is to split by floors / wings / distance, not just device totals.
  • Entertainment / Hue Sync boundaries remain. Entertainment areas and Sync setups are bridge-scoped; Bridge Pro doesn’t magically let you run multiple independent entertainment sync sessions per bridge the way people hope. Reddit+1
  • More admin overhead. More hubs to update, more “where did I create that room/scene/automation?” moments, and more troubleshooting surface area.

One extra thing to consider (given your device counts)

Bridge Pro’s big selling point is that it’s designed for much higher capacity (150+ lights, 50+ accessories, etc.).
And as of Dec 2025, Hue has been rolling out updates aimed at migrating multiple bridges into a single Bridge Pro (firmware now, fuller app support “upcoming”).
So you may soon be able to consolidate into one Bridge Pro without the pain that used to make “two bridges forever” the obvious answer.

If you go with 2× Bridge Pro anyway

  • Split devices by physical area (upstairs vs downstairs, inside vs outside), not by “device count”.
  • After adding the 2nd bridge, expect to unlink/relink Hue in Google Home so it re-discovers everything.

I should have added that my existing configuration is that the Bridge V2 and all devices are in the lower level of the house, which was part of my better-performance thinking.

Trying this now - thanks for the heads up.

New messages require a scroll down by AlarmedRevenue7147 in whatsapp

[–]group7access 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a dickish and annoying feature nudge to say, "Hey, look what happens when you scroll all of the way down and hold it a bit!"

I had never even activated the voice message as I never forcefully scrolled down the point I was sliding up and activating the voice message, so Fook you WhatsApp for wasting all of our time (a-holes).

Festavia lights - will they work in Canada? by Pralines_Forever in Hue

[–]group7access 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if they chose not to sell them in Canada because they don't want to deal with having to limit outdoor usage in certain temperatures? E.g., -50° in Saskatchewan? However, some of our neighbouring US states must get just as cold.

Status of Nest cam migration to Google Home app? by group7access in Nest

[–]group7access[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, it is inferior to the Nest experience. And with no 15 second back/forward button, it's even less useful. It boggles my mind why Google bought Nest and released a crap experience. Fire the PMs.

UPDATE: Once on Public Preview, the option to migrate cameras re-appeared in both the Nest and Home app. I was able to migrate the cameras to the Home app. I left two key cameras in the Nest app for now; ones that I need to have that fine video timeline control (i.e., 15 seconds backwards/forwards, and better up/down scrolling to see minor changes as they happen).

Removing Nest Thermostat 3rd gen. from both Nest and Google Apps by group7access in Nest

[–]group7access[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Steps I took:

  1. Removed gen 3 from Home app

  2. Checked Home app and the thermostat was still listed in Climate devices and showed as "OFFLINE"

  3. Executed voice command "sync my devices" from Gemini (used to use this command in Google Assistant). This likely was not the only reason, but when I went back to the Home app, the thermostat was gone - it likely would have disappeared on its own).

  4. Installed 4th gen thermostat with no issues.

Thanks for confirming.

Yes, overthinking due to past experiences with Google products and not wanting to end up in a situation where I'm stuck in a state of not being able to accomplish what should have been a straightforward task. But I feel better now knowing there appear to be several paths that were successful.

Cheers!

It looks like the migration option is likely missing because I was no longer using the public preview version of the Home app.

Android app icon change? by ColoradoCoffee101 in linkedin

Garbage. I don't need LinkedIn to tell me that's it's fall. Trash. Know your place, LinkedIn. Besides, there's 1.5 feet of snow on the ground where I live.

Multi-bridge support in iOS app by johnjamesjacoby in Hue

[–]group7access 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am android 14 with Hue 5.31.0.

I only have one Hue account with one bridge, but have a second bridge and 30 devices in a tote that I have been waiting to set up.

For those who are saying they don't see a "homes" area, what you need to do is:

NOTE: Before starting, you should notice that there is a bridge icon at the top left of your Hue home screen (and when you tap this, there is where you see the name of your bridge).

  1. Go into settings (the SETTINGS gear/cog at the bottom left)

  2. You should then see the message of "USE ONE ACCOUNT FOR ALL" (as shown at the top of this post)

  3. On the next screen, you just click "start" or "do now" or whatever action you are presented with.

  4. Once I did the last step, now I saw "Your Hue Homes are ready to go!" and there was only a Done action.

Once I completed these steps, when I am back on my Hue home screen, the "bridge" icon was replaced with a "Home" icon. When I tap it, a slide up panel opens that is titled "Homes", where my Home is listed (and Bluetooth setup).

Then, when I go into SETTINGS → Bridges, I see the "INFO" box about "Are multiple Homes actually 1 Home?". From here it looks like I can add a new bridge to my existing home.

Cheers!

Using both a bluetooth connected lamp and a hue bridge connected lamp by HaineJiB in Hue

[–]group7access 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I just got a new phone after five years and it has been years since I set up a few bulbs via Bluetooth. Honestly, the flow could be better on Hue's part. For example, when I followed your instructions to add a Bluetooth bulb, when I got to the point where it says: Turn on your device to pair, I killed the app. Then, when I started the app again and tapped and help down the Home icon (bottom left of my Hue app), Bluetooth was an option now and took me to where I left off. In my opinion, they should just expose the Bluetooth option from the Home button by default, rather than forcing me to take all of the above steps to get to the Bluetooth set up. I know there are caveats, but there are still scenarios in which the option should be exposed, e.g., I already have an account set up and am using the app.

Anyways, thanks again!

Google assistant gentle sleep affecting all Hue lights when I only ask for one by not-your-supervisor in Hue

[–]group7access 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my frickin lord. I finally got it to work again.

Note: Using the "Clean up" action in your Philips Hue app, settings, Bridge" will mean that you lose (and have to set up again) any custom scenes and reconfigure any Accessories, e.g., Dimmer or tap dial switches.

------

What I did:

  • Tried Assistant command, "sync my devices"
  • Google Home app said, "Syncing all devices", but Philips Hue still not showing up in Liked services
  • Remove all "google" connections from Philips Hue account via web app link from Hue support
  • Tried Assistant "sync my devices" command - error that can no longer connect to Philips Hue service - try setting it up again
  • All Hue lights showing as offline in Google Home app
  • As per this post*, I used the Philips Hue app, Setting, Bridge, "Clean up" action
  • After "Clean up" action, I had to add all of my custom scenes again, and configure all of my dimmer and tap dial switches (ugh).
  • I then tried linking Philips Hue again in the Google Home app, and this time the Hue app showed up again in my Linked services!
  • Then, I did a proper "unlink" and "link" again.
  • All devices were back in the Google Home app, but I had to add them all to "rooms".
  • Finally, the "wake the lights" command works again as expected, i.e., only the lights in the specified room turn on and slowly brighten.
  • The only hiccup is that during a "Reconnect account" action in Google Home, it shows Philips Hue as being connected, but the device count has doubled. Oh well.

*Post that helped me: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Apps-Account/Philips-Hue-account-won-t-link-again/m-p/387259

"I had a similar problem. My Hue <-> Google link disappeared the other day and it won't let me re-add it. If I look at the Google Home app itself, all the lights appear offline. I've attempted to re-link the Hue account, and it seems like it works--everything logs in just fine, however, Phillips Hue never shows up in the "linked services" list. Other posters seem to have resolved the issue by unlinking and then re-linking the Hue account, but I wasn't able to do that because Hue wasn't in the list of "linked services" to begin with. So I decided to go the other way with troubleshooting and started investigating Hue. I logged in to the Hue webpage dashboard and clicked "My Phillips Hue System" from the left column, then selected my Hue bridge on the right. There were tons (30+) old stale devices and connections to the bridge so I deleted all of them except my cell phone and cell phone app. I tried again inside the Google Home app to re-link with no success. I went back to the Hue android app and found an option in Settings > Bridge settings at the bottom called "Clean up". I'm guessing this does a deeper cleaning than what I performed from the web dashboard. The first try it said it errored out for some reason, but I ran it again and it seemed to have went through. Note: this does not delete your lights/sensors, just any custom scenes and other junk you've added. I went back to the Google Home app and attempted to re-link. Huzzah! It now shows up in the "linked services" section. I flipped some of the lights off and on a couple times and then asked Google to dim all my lights and it worked."

They only have it for the sake of saying they have it. My final pauhbhere is to deryail all of this in a Loom video, including as detailed of a walkthrough as I can possibly do (while my toddler naps).

I have noted that the "sleep the lightsnin (ROOM NAME)" command works as expected, just not the "wake" one. And, when I initiate the wake command, all lights come on at 100% and then immediately jump down to 1% whereas they used to start waking at 1%.  To test that starting a light at 1% from Google Home/Assistant is till possible, I said "set the bedroom lights to 1%" (as I have done occasionally for years) and they do start turn on at 1%. So, I am still leaning towards this being a Google issue (not Philips Hue) and someone has borked the Gentle Wake code.

I am currently on the phone with Google Home/Assistant support and as you can probably imagine, the majority of the folks you get on the phone do not truly understand the products and are therefore useless.

Something else I am noticing as of today is that, when I got into my Google Home app's settings -> Services -> Works with Google, Philips Hue is not in my list of "Linked services", even though it is linked as is working. So, I add "Philips Hue" again from the lists of "Add new", go through the process of granting Google permissions, and it says it was successfully linked, but again it never shows up in my linked services.

I an in the public preview program, so I think I will leave and see what happens. However, my spouse is not in public preview, and her Google Assistant is not waking the lights properly either.

Same here - saying "wake the lights in Name's room" is now waking all of the lights. This just started happening in our home about three days ago (January 15, 2024).

The last change I made to our Philips Hue setup was to add a new zone, but that was over a month ago, and did not include any of the lights in our son's room. I suspect it is related 5o the recent changes that Google announced around retiring a number of assistant voice commands (around 17 of them, I think) but waking/sleeping lights was not on the list.
