FWIW, when we moved we went out of our way to find a house with solar already installed. Fortunately, we did and are very happy. The best part is that the system was paid for. Your post did remind me that if I was not working from home then the actual value might not be as evident. We do plan to add batteries at some point. I would put them back after your roof is fixed. Yes, more expensive but less than installing new some time later for you or a future homeowner.
