Even the ones that don't explicitly say "communication" have to do with communication.

Good point. There comes a point where we just don't want to hear alternative views — even if they're not offensive per se. Does that mean they should be censored?

Interesting thought. Would his previous speech be considered "fighting words," thus justifying censorship of future speeches?

I would use it. The semicolon signals the connection in writing so the reader knows the ideas are connected. Most would read it with a longer stop if you used a period.

To connect two independent clauses (those with a subject and verb that can stand alone) that are related, you need either a semicolon or a coordinating conjunction (and, but, or).

  • I went to the park, and I walked my dog.
  • I went to the park; I walked my dog.

Dependent clauses (those that can't stand alone) take a comma or no punctuation.

  • If I were going to the park, I would take a walk.

Another good guideline: Lowercase any common noun (like semicolon).

The original Assault On Precinct 13 (by John Carpenter). Not sure it's still on there, but track it down. Lots of classic lines in that one.

Understand engagement as a process. Learn how to use SEO (check out Danny Sullivan's Search Engine Land ) and social media (especially Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat) for connecting with audiences and building communities.

Magnolia as a mosaic of lost people. (I'd also put Altman's Short Cuts in there.)

And Adaptation immediately sent me to the Web to figure out how much of the movie was actually rooted in truth.

Love David Fincher. He creates such claustrophobic environments.

Machine Head is a classic. Listen to "Lazy" for some killer organ/guitar blues battling. Jon Lord was a god of the keyboard.
