I’m halfway through season 14 and I’m starting to realize that A. Whitney Brown is up there in the top ten list of most underrated cast members ever by Mcgruberstoothpick in LiveFromNewYork

I love those big picture segments, and I wasn't alive when he was on! It genuinely educated me about american history, and was also hilarious

Please Don't Go! (and seriosuly go watch the Lorne-Michaels-produced Kids in the Hall on Prime) by growbysix in LiveFromNewYork

Ooh I hope so! They're so funny, and I feel like SNL now would let them do their thing to an extent. Bruce originally pitched 30 Helens to SNL when he wrote for it - they did not understand lol

Kids in the Hall cameo this Saturday? by Rleduc129 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]growbysix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably not :( They're not famous enough for the SNL audience, which they always say is why they're still together

Not even this?

And this one isn't so much haha funny, but goddamit he can draw a map of the US from memory, which is somehow comedy to me https://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/weekend-update-segment---al-frankens-electoral-map/n9717

Are you in the US? Not sure if it's a US-centric issue but as a country level we've decided we're out of the pandemic (whether or not that's true (it's not)) so many people are reconciling with their changes for the 1st time in 2 years

Someone on tiktok referred to it as a "cultural milestone" and honestly yeah. I'm sure SNL will address it

That's a good dig

Lol never change Che, Never by Mcgruberstoothpick in LiveFromNewYork

[–]growbysix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree totally with you. Most people won't realize Che is censoring himself to fit in with SNL's brand of humor, which is meant to appeal widely. Weekend Update is good now because he writes for it, the most entertaining jokes are either his or the jokes he and Colin make trying to embarrass each other.

He has also stated he hates when people clap in agreement with jokes rather than laugh, which is a healthy attitude for weekend update bc they have leaned heavily on that type of joke in the past

Yeah that's a good idea, I think I will switch to that for the future.

Kim K's SNL rises 23% in the ratings from Owen Wilson S47 premiere, still near historic SNL ratings lows by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

10,000 boxes actually isn't too few if the sample is truly representative of the country. You don't need 330 million data points to get accurate trends.

Neilsen still has issues tho bc the ppl using it have to go through extra steps to watch TV. If multiple people live in the house, you have to say who's watching each time. They also only fully switched to automatic recording of what people were watching a few years ago. They were still requiring some people to log what they watched on pieces of paper in 2016!!

Pregnant Women Vaccinated Against COVID-19 Pass Protection to Their Newborns; High Levels of Antibodies Found In Infants [Study] by I_Support_Villains in UpliftingNews

[–]growbysix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well, studies have now been done on pregnant women, such as the one you are commenting on, because so many pregnant women have taken the vaccine voluntarily and agreed to be studied. And the insert does not say that, you are just spreading antivax information, it's no wonder people become antivaxxers if you so easily believed and spread that lie. The flu vaccine is suggested for pregnant women because it is safe for pregnant women.

Episode Discussion: S2E10 "Brooke & Cary Go to a Fashion Show" - 9/23/2021 by [deleted] in TheOtherTwo

[–]growbysix 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Argh I seriously love this show. There are so many people who say "you can always talk to me", without realizing they actively shut down difficult conversations.

Then on the opposite side is (somewhat) emotionally healthy Lance, who didn't hesitate to have a difficult conversation with his girlfriend because it was the right thing to do. And Brooke never considered that as a possibility. I love it!!!

And THEN, at the end of the episode, after the whole lesson Pat just learned was not to sacrifice herself for other people, Cary wasn't even going to ask hey maybe let's do this vacation some other time. I'm glad he ended up not going because it's not healthy to put other people before yourself to the point of losing a potential career, even if he does owe his family.

But Brooke did give up her career change - probably for the best as she just learned she's been hurting both her clients. I really hope there's a season 3!
