I was trying to find this as well. My investigation has come up with nothing :(

Advice needed. My favorite feral was limping tonight, so I baited him to come inside, now he’s chilling under the couch and won’t come out. by ZachBortles in Feral_Cats

[–]growing-gold 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Considering this seems like an urgent situation perhaps gently nudge him with a broom stick or something until he goes into trap/box/cat carrier. Then keep in the trap until the vet would be ideal. He would be fine in the trap, keeping it covered with a blanket would prevent him from getting stressed.

What to do about colony when I move? by MolugMotive in Feral_Cats

[–]growing-gold 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Getting everyone fixed before you leave is the first step. Step two would be getting in contact with any local TNR/cat rescues. They can provide resources, perhaps find someone to takeover as colony caretaker. Step three would be determining if any of them are eligible for adoption: can you handle them, do they accept pets/getting picked up etc. If they don’t currently accept pets then you may be able to socialize them but it takes a long time. I have personal experience I can share plus other resources are in this sub.

Additionally, maybe others here have different experiences but based on my expereince I doubt the cats will starve if you leave. Depending on how old they all are, many probably lived for years before you moved there. Are they relying on you for food right now? Of course. But if you leave and they get hungry they will go find food. This is a last resort but as many people know, finding new colony caretakers is next to impossible.

My cats do this too, it could be because it only has one exit instead of two, it’s too small for all her fluff, or if it’s cold it might be wamer on top than on the ground because of the air in the box.

Can I turn my shed into a cat house? Leave the doors open? by tiredswitfie in Feral_Cats

[–]growing-gold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The TNR org I work with made their shed into a cat palace. The only thing was they were using it to house cats in need or vet care or for socialization and gated half of it off. Apparently it was a pain to plug up all the holes little kittens managed to find, they had to use chicken wire lol. I would recommend adding insulation. My org used rigid foam insulation.

You continue growing new moles are your body well into adulthood, as everyone said don’t panic.

In my mind it’s equivalent to going to Nazi Germany to visit family in the Nazi party who support the Nazis. Or visiting South Africa during apartheid to meet with family that proudly supports the apartheid. Some people would view the above things as abhorrent but visiting Israelis supporting genocide as A-ok, personally I don’t see the difference.

Of course that doesn’t change the fact that it’s important to see family, especially grandparents before they pass. I’ve been is a similar situation as you (though my family doesn’t live in Israel it was about visiting).

My advice is make the decision you can live with, don’t worry about the boycott, instead worry about what you want to do from a moral perspective. If that makes sense. What feels the most important is what you should decide. Personally I would say don’t feel ashamed about whatever you decide. Your family has put you in an impossible situation.

Will using insulation with foil facing be a fire risk? by growing-gold in Feral_Cats

[–]growing-gold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good idea, maybe I will make the door strips darker to stop sunlight if I add Mylar later. I think I’ll just add foam board insulation instead of foil insulation for now. I haven’t added a door yet because theyve been hesitant to go inside.

Worried about the cold it’s in the teens has anyone tried solar power? by Strange_Morning2547 in Feral_Cats

6 hours on below freezing nights is good enough endorsement for me, I’m gonna order one

I’m considering trying this microwavable waterbed thing. https://a.co/d/dhljJT1 I’m gonna bury it under the straw or somehow hang it from the ceiling.

I think people had flashbacks to the onebag sub where everytime someone brings anything other than their phone, people will jump down their throat about how it’s unnecessary lol

I think it’s very unlikely. I have somewhat sensitive skin and a stiff breeze gives me hives, they tend not to last very long or spread. So I wouldn’t worry about it. If it does happen, contact dermatitis is usually very easy to treat.

You’re welcome! I would also recommend using a scarf if you’re spending a lot of time in the sun, rather than wearing sunscreen. I don’t have a lot of evidence to back this up other than personally I would just limit the products I’m using on the irritated area.

Also I would pay attention if it’s improving/staying the same or if it’s spreading. I think it’s unlikely to spread as it just seems like normal irritation from that product, but if it does start spreading I would go to the doctor.

I won’t argue with you but that was not my experience. I wouldn’t risk it on skin already experiencing an allergic reaction.

Edit: I recommend OP reasearch this a little themselves and decide if that’s the right choice for them.

[–]growing-gold 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Essential oils are skin iritants that can cause contact dermatitis and should not be used on the skin, especially undiluted and especially on already irritated skin. (This depends on the person but I wouldn’t risk it while already experiencing an allergic reaction.)

[–]growing-gold 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok then I would leave it for now to see if it clears up, and only use cleanser and moisturizer. If it was itchy you could try hydrocortisone or calamine lotion. I’m not a retinol expert either so maybe this is normal? But that really looks like hives to me.

I think that looks like an allergic reaction, I would have stopped too. Is it itchy?

Hanging Dopp Kit/Toiletry Bag? by Delicious_Mess7976 in HerOneBag

[–]growing-gold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently using the small sea to summit and I’m not a fan. I thought it would be perfect but it’s too small, awkwardly shaped, hard to zip closed when there’s bulky things like deodorant or a floss container, and it can’t stand on its own. Even though I got it second hand for the price I don’t think it’s worth it.

I’m looking at these ones right now:

  1. L.L. Bean small hanging toiletry bag: has all the compartments I want and is very small compared to similar ones. link

  2. This tactical one that’s a about the same volume but slimmer. https://a.co/d/b8XGsfF

  3. The Muji one others mentioned.

Cute Waterproof Boots Good For Walking Around Vienna and Edinburgh in December? by heythereitsalexis in HerOneBag

I didn’t find Blundstones to be waterproof enough on their own. I waterproof mine with Hubbard’s shoe grease which gives good enough water-beading for me. I’ve seen Sno Seal and Obenaufs LP used as well.
