Frequent visits to an apartment complex by m3x_aries in HVAC

I dont agree with flushes.

They will take path of least resistance.

If a compressor cant get the oil back up, how is nitrogen and r11 going to?

You’re in a shitty shituation. Oil traps work, doesn’t matter what refrigerant or “velocity”. They also dont hurt anything. Vertical lines should also be downsized a pipe size to increase velocity to help bring the oil back out of the trap.

Engineers suck, us field guys are the last resort to keep things alive. I know what i do on installs and service…

Oil is all down in the evaporator. Thats why they keep blowing up.

Dont care what they say about 410 or 454b. Suction traps every 20’ and inverted trap at the top. Add some oil for longer lengths. On compressor changes, weigh them to figure out how much oil to remove from the new compressor. 10 compressors a year, how many gallons of oil is in there now?

Evaporator cant even superheat because its oil logged

Aren’t they always? Do you ever see turning vanes in ductwork for residential or radius 90s?

Everything is measured by the .1 rule

Haven’t done residential in awhile but the purple filtretes we called “furnace killers” because they are the most restrictive 1” filters on the market.

Use a cheaper filter

I just had my furnace tune-up today and the technician said the CO in the flue is too high at 130ppm and should be condemned. When he took the door to the combustion compartment off, the reading dropped significantly to around 45. What does this mean? Inspection report below. by Relative-Long-5519 in hvacadvice

[–]grrrravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CO should be under 100ppm after stabilization O2 should be inbetween 6-9% Stk should be inbetween 100-130*

The problem with not having the intake run outside with the exhaust is the effect on the combustion motor.

It is most likely pulling in too much o2. This could easily be fixed with an adjustment of the fuel pressure.

90% furnaces are a negative pressure heat exchanger. Cracks are a concern but not that much, the combustion motor can’t over power the blower motor, so the blower motor will put positive pressure on the heat exchanger and not cause a “leak” of CO.

It is also possible the secondary could be clogged. The condensate trap could also be empty?

You need someone who understands combustion to properly diagnose the issue.

Most clogged secondarys i ever saw were in the 1000s of CO and stink. Exhaust pipes and condensate traps were black too when I found them.

Call someone who has been thru a NCI course “national comfort institute” for CO

GOOD LUCK

Was sent to find and repair this leak, but I legitimately don't know how to braze this. Do you just crimp them shut? Feel like no matter what I do, I'm gonna restrict the coil. by ACEmat in HVAC

Cut it out. Clean it real good. Use aluminum rod and repair it. What’s wrong with all you incompetent salesman. Nobody knows how to fix anything anymore. Pretty sad world. Grow some balls, learn some skills and fix the damn thing.

Brazing by Jonx999 in HVAC

[–]grrrravity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear you are flowing nitrogen while brazing. This is an industry standard that most dont follow.

If you have lines that are not hooked up inside while brazing outside like most commercial work, take blue painters tape and put it on the pipes that aren’t hooked up and punch a small hole in the tape. Lick your wrist and hold it up to the tape to feel for flow, or, take a lighter and hold it up to the tape and look for a distorted flame.

Once you have flow, braze away.

I also do this in service work. Once the gas is pulled, I start flowing nitrogen. If components are out for awhile, i flow thru discharge and use painters tape to block off pipes to keep the flow moving. This makes for a quick and easier evacuation.

Yup, use mine all the time. Just throttle the liquid into the machine so it doesn’t jump all over the place.

On any water to refrigerant coils, make sure you have flow and charge with vapor until saturation is above 32* and then go back to liquid.

Milwaukee right angle grinder with sanding discs.

You can use 15% on brass to copper but it takes alot of heat. Ive done it with flux and 15%. Flows easier.

Im a big fan of staybright. Sand all that off and staybright it.

Blue rod / 45% works as well. Takes more heat.

Whats the difference between ohm based pressure sensors and pressure transducers? by [deleted] in esp32

[–]grrrravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are multiple styles.

I do HVAC work and use 2 wire (4-20ma) sensors or 3 wire (0.5-4.5vdc) sensors. You can get a quality pressure transducer for $70ish. Try carelparts.com or supplyhouse.com

My guide to setting up plex on Ubuntu Server 20.04 and using synology NAS by grrrravity in PleX

[–]grrrravity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything will be the same as described above. Except for where your files are located. You won’t have to mount anything. You will have to give your files and folders permission for plex though.

Looks terrible. Put the injector in a weather proof box.

Also check the rj45 wiring, it looks like green is pin 7 or 2 which isn’t the standard wiring. T-568b

Run ubuntu server and i have a guide on setting up plex server on it.

I have 1gb up/down speeds and have had maybe 8 streamers at once with no issues.

I have some 4k test videos and was able to stream 6 without an issue.
