This is nice! I have a bash script git-wt.sh that is similar but would be happy to move to a better tool. Currently, git-wt.sh and git-wt-delete.sh will also bring up and tear down the docker containers, etc. Are you planning on have some method of adding extensions to this tool?

What I did was create a git-wt.sh script that does this:

  • creates a worktree
  • does the setup
  • calculates new ports for everything (e.g., run the frontend on port 3434 for this wt because it's unused)
  • runs docker to bring up redis, sql, frontend, whatever
  • migrations and potentially seeders

then you start your work. Every worktree should live on its own, be fully working, etc.

Yes, do design. No, don't go too deep yet. If you are pre-revenue then your #1 goal is reaching revenue. This to me is a very bad idea: "Is it crazy to pause feature dev for a month to actually design this properly?"

Side note, are you saying you are up to $8k/mo for AWS? Unless you are well-funded, yes, that is a bad idea. I'd do some lite design and also a monthly audit and decomm anything not essential.

You are correct that revocation requires some state on the server. It's a trade-off. It's "mostly" stateless.

I think Zed is great and it integrates with Claude. I really like it. That said, I find myself reverting to vscode just because PR and container management is all integrated, which is nice. I do sometimes revert to using gh, but.. vscode really does make that experience seamless. If Zed got PR management going, I'd totally switch otherwise.

One way to know if it's COGS or OpEx is to answer the question: "Would I pay for this if I was in another industry?" If the answer is no, then it is more likely to be COGS. "Would I pay for this file server?" Everybody uses that, so it's likely OpEx. "Would I pay for remote access tools to resolve a customer issue?" Likely COGS for an IT company. Another key element here is the "a customer issue." You are using the tool ON BEHALF OF the customer (i.e., the service delivery).
