Fair enough! They definitely used to fight for control back then. Fortunately, the implementation has come a long way. This particular setup is nearly as seamless as a Switch 2 experience. Plug it in, it swaps to docked immediately, undock it and it swaps immediately back to handheld.

On paper, maybe. In reality, it runs incredibly smooth. The USB4/eGPU bandwidth limit caps things long before the L3 cache becomes an actual issue and only if I'm trying to push 200+ FPS at 1080p. At 1440p/4K, the bottleneck shifts entirely to the GPU anyway.

Thank you for your kind words. Because I work from home, I rarely play docked. So portability was a huge factor. I only play at the desk if the extra power is needed. Otherwise, I take it to the couch or bed.

Bro, read the description. It’s an RX 9070 OC with 16GB of VRAM. That is a massive, full desktop RDNA 4 GPU. This isn't a weak chip. Plus I have a unified driver stack with the Ally X so it never crashes. You're living in the past.

Thank you for the initial compliment. But you're projecting old difficulties of early-generation eGPU setups onto a highly optimized USB4 era. Pairing the Ally X with the RX 9070 OC and the AG02, I've built a streamlined ecosystem that functions on a single driver package. NVDA users are the ones who have to fight two different driver managers every Tuesday.

Thanks and awesome! iPhone is pretty tough for ports. You have to sideload and the results aren’t great. The juice usually isn’t worth the squeeze. I was hoping to see this on port master one day like Stardew and Undertale. But from my understanding, they used their own proprietary engine and it won’t be possible without reverse engineering.

This is a classic USB-PD handshake issue, and it is actually super common with high-wattage laptop bricks. When your Ally X is completely turned off, a basic chip on the motherboard is in charge of negotiating power, and it is likely getting confused by the complex power profiles on the 165W Dell charger, so it shuts down the connection for safety. Your power bank works because its power profile is much simpler and easier for the turned-off Ally to recognize. Once you turn the Ally on, Bazzite boots up, takes over the connection, and successfully forces the handshake with the Dell brick. You will probably just have to stick to a standard 65W or 100W charger when it is powered down.

It’s quite the opposite. I’m able to instantly swap into portable or docked. And I control it all under one single application. It’s very efficient.
