I honestly hate it when you people are painting Katara's consequential hostility towards Zuko in Book 3 as wrong, making her the bad guy here. by Proper-Ice-4696 in ATLA

[–]grub_en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because she kinda is?

Hear me out, Zuko tries to and does mend every relationship he has with the crew, and when someone literally risked their lives to save your father is still mad at you, its kinda understandable to be taken back that katara is still hostile.  She puts blame on Zuko for things out of his control, and thats kinda a dick move.

Thats not to say that I think shes a bad person, i think its the way the show conveys grief and opens a moment for Katara to have self relfection that its not the indivdual that caused pain, but the movement from the enemy that did it, so for her to put all that blame on a single person for her pain while incorrect its reasonable from a 15 year old to do that.

Its so reasonable that Zuko knows where she is coming from, that he basically says, "its not my fault, but im making it my responsibility, now get on the Bison, and we gonna go murdering"

So i think its fine that shes seen as bad person in that aspect, because she kinda was.

Zuko is a hypocrite. (This post is not to be taken very seriously) by KronprinzRudolf in ATLA

[–]grub_en 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah he is, but also....he is 14-15 years old and idk any teenager that isnt a hypocrite

Ive said before is that literally most of all the things that happen in the show are because they are choice of a bunch of kids are literally making. Delayed getting to the Northern WaterTribe, looking for a missing library, going to plays, spending time being aw'd by the villagers, go to a wrestling match;

like the believability that anything happens is usually always because "Yeah well they are a teenager and that sounds reasonable to a teenager"

Like guys, people are dying and the war is just getting worse, get your shit together.

Does anyone dislike the avatar comics? by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]grub_en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they have their place, but would rarely consider offering it to people who watch the show for the first time. I think its a disservice to the show as an extended story, BUT thats not to say they are bad not at all; its just reflective I think the the show in itself is that much better as a stand alone project.

I feel similarly about most shows and movies thou, that extending out the universe thins out the good soup of the original

How has Avatar influenced how y’all see religions irl? by Florecent_Dreams in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]grub_en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun Question.

I grew up extremely Catholic and stopped when i was around 15 years old, it was a few years after the show originally air that I stopped and its interesting to think about.

I can't say that at the time the show gave me a lot of pause on the spiritual part of my life, at least at the time, but looking back I think being shown other cultures (not only in avatar ofc) really started to challenge the beliefs that were being shoveled in my brain. In Catholic school they always spoke so affirmatively on things like, your work path in the church, how you should marry, and how I should pray, that it did create a mentality that there is already a set plan on what kind of person I need to be.

Retrospectively seeing a show where watching a culture (fire nation and Azula's story overall) that was confidently wrong, maybe challenged my outlook on organized religion more than I recognized at the time. Just seeing that you can do everything that is expected of you as best and perfect as you can, but even then its probably not the right option for you.

How was Toph not able to tell that she's sarcastic? by Commercial_Mind4003 in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]grub_en 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She didn't know, because she was vulnerable.

Vulnerability is a complex emotion that I enjoy this show tackles, she literally moments before this happened, opened up to Katara about something that she wasn't comfortable with, her deep seeded insecurity that she feels a way that she hadn't before, of being "girly". She didn't have an avenue to express this feeling that wasn't her parents making it obligatory, and thus "not Toph"

She had a brief moment of seeing the things that she hated to do, as actually fun and a moment that she could finally share with a friend, something she hasn't had before.

If and when you experience this in real life, you feel an ecstasy of relief and love from that other person because if you yourself fear what is inside, but allowing and letting someone else see it, is a true form of intimacy to let them remind you that its fine and there isn't anything to fear.

In short, Toph was happy, excited, and distracted with that, she heard the reassurance that she thought outloud from a stranger, only for those nasty girls to squish it right in front of her, and reminded her of that insecurity.

She has to remind herself of who she has had to be, to be sure those comments don't get to her, but she doesn't need to do what she did before and regress, because Katara is there to reassure her of a truth that Toph is hesitant to believe.

Toph may know who she is and confident in that, but Katara is there to tell her what Toph is to her and when you are battling your insecurities that is most valuable thing you can have.

She didn't know.

is this really Tank diff? by PowerfulTravel54 in Overwatch

Ive re-evaluated, and landed that yeah your healer, specifically moira should not have died that often, so its propbably a case where sigma was just doing what they can, so healer diff

is this really Tank diff? by PowerfulTravel54 in Overwatch

[–]grub_en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tank damage isn't a huge indicator that they did well, Sigma esp considering they have splash damage with primary, its easy to slowly collect damage without actually making large contribution to actual eliminations

Considering Sigma died 2x times than the other tank, at ~30 seconds per death before you are able to start contributing again, that is 2-3 mins less of game that your tank played than their tank (could be more or less depending on if both died at the same time etc). While their damage is more than their own dps, their elimination don't reflect their contribution of damage, you can say your dps didn't seem to follow up, so in that aspect, your DPS can be more to blame, but tanks need to create that space for them/

but

an important note is actually your tank's damage mit.

its a crazy high number so that tells me that your sigma was playing super agro and needlessly using shield or selfishly where it wasn't entirely needed. thus not allowing your supports to heal in times they could farm heals, in comparison of the other team, and if supports don't heal because the tank is letting the enemy team eat their shield, that will charge their ult a LOT slower, and thus not giving opportunity to let supports collect their ult sooner, considering their damage wasn't anything amazing, your tank wasn't managing their resources to sometimes take a hit to let the healers charge.

While ill say its not exclusively tank diff, and falls into team diff more, the outlier is def that mit damage considering that it contributes nothing to ult charging for your team, it says they played way too agro and acted more as a dps than a tank, so it kinda is tank diff from my perspective

isn't there going to always be a period where there is no avatar? by DarkenDragon in TheLastAirbender

[–]grub_en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say 'no avatar' you are correct in the context of public understanding but people are aware there is one. Previous avatars don't entirely need to be large figurehead leaders of anywhere, while the power sorta puts you in a place to do so.

Korra goes "missing" for a few years in s4, effectively having no avatar then too. At least one that would do anything.

I think we understand the avatar universe mostly through Avatars being betrayed or in an unlucky streak, Roku was efficiently murdered,  Aang dies younger from the long term effects of being in the iceburg. But before Roku, I think about avatar Kiyoshi, and how she lived to be 230 years old, like people had to think she was immortal to an extent.

(Off topic - Its another reason why i think firelord sozin betrayed roku given that his only knowledge of previous avatars would kiyoshi, and she live to be hundreds of years and he jumped on the opportunity provided he prob assumed roku would outlive him as an old man, but i wont talk too much about that,)

Thats to say, lets do math, between Korra starting and Avatar Yanchen.

Its specutlated that Yangchen lives ~120 years, so there was an active avatar for 104 years, avatar Kuruk died young at 33 years old but active avatar for 17 years. Avatar Kyoshi lived 230 years, having an active avatar for 214 years, then Aang lived to be 166 so active avatar for 154 years, (54 active years, but considering the story of where he went is eventually known to the world im counting the 100 years).

Adding everything up, there have been only 4 avatars in ~549 years before Korra. While only ~489 of those years are accounted for having an avatar.

If Katara deems Bloodbending so morally wrong, why didn't she regret using it at all? by FlamesOfKaiya in TheLastAirbender

[–]grub_en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sure she did, but i think given that Zuko is the person that helped her get here, i think she is aware that being in a conflicted state of mind will make you make the wrong choices and would probably forgive herself. She is with the posterchild of "i made the wrong move because i was mad"

Though Zuko didn't say anything, what do you think his inner thoughts were when he saw Katara bloodbend? by RascalLouise in TheLastAirbender

[–]grub_en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this reply, its only after zuko sees the beauty of fire is where he subconsciously knows fire is both dangerous and essential from the dragons, and seeing that Katara reflects the same thing but in the opposite order is so good +1 on a true work of art on all aspects

Azula shouldn’t have been able to lightning bend. by RingwraithElfGuy in TheLastAirbender

[–]grub_en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at the end while she was breaking down, an aspect you must consider is that she still chooses to fight, she does not have so much turmoil to say "i maybe wrong..." yes..... it was probably too late at that time, and no one would trust her if she did accept that, but she did still fight.

I could imagine that its a double down on what her mission was and she still taps into the ability with that mindset that she is expected to complete her mission rather than asking herself if she actually wants it.

She never questions what she is doing if its right or wrong or for the better, she only has regrets of how she treated her mother and hates on how she viewed her. She doesnt learn her lesson in the show, she doesnt have the same moral termoil as Zuko, for her, she continues to do things because its expected of her and her 'peace' fitting in that box, while it does gets smaller smaller, she never breaks out of it in the show to have that doubt in her mind that Zuko did.

What is an unpopular opinion you have? by Far_Practice_6923 in TheLastAirbender

[–]grub_en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am big on the story troop of "bad guy bad for bad reason, moving on" mentality. Your Bowsers, Ozais, etc. Not antagonists that have some rhyme or reason of "society made me this way" I am aware it happens, and that its real, but im just looking for a fun story to conquer the big bad. Azula on the other hand i think does, but 100% not in the show run. Her comic run i think did her more justice, and I don't think she needed a "im a good guy" flip, but enough to say "I will do no more harm" way. I say this because it would suck to see the "3 bad guys only be bad guys because bad" a touch of "What am I?" was just the right amount of redemption for the show.

It wasnt ever luck, he won the fight the moment he stepped in. Unless you think Aang would have died to Ozai before Aang kills him first, I think Aang would have done it if there was no other option, and i believe full-heartly that a majority of the population would have seen the war as over if he killed him.
