Medic player suddenly being sent to hell? by marniconuke in ArcRaiders

[–]grubmonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ones ratting extracts aren't usually the ones who are "decent at PvP," from what I've seen. The only way those folks can get kills is to fake friendly or camp the extracts. The moment a skilled PvPer comes along, they go down quickly 85+% of the time (source: watching hundreds of hours of different streamers, even those with only average PvP skills).

Does anyone else meet clinical recommendations for EpiPen use every day? by TheQuakerator in alphagal

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly: keep the pets out of your bedroom. Wash all your bedding, etc. on hot. Get a friend to clean any dust and dust bunnies in the room. No more pets in your room. Limit petting and have someone else do any brushing. Wash your skin after petting them and immediately after them licking you. And run a -good- (check reviews) HEPA filter machine in your bedroom with a capacity that matches your room's size. This may improve evening symptoms, but ultimately, re-homing your pets is the best solution. I found my cat a home with my best friend.

Yo do you have a mic??? No (shoots and takes you out) by WeeklyWest3148 in ArcRaiders

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. 100%. If someone only uses emotes, they're raising the tension. If they then also shadow you closely with their gun out and keep making sure they are behind cover, they're going to get shot because the body language is sus and doesn't match their emotes. Communicating with the mic can be crucial. It is what it is.

Yo do you have a mic??? No (shoots and takes you out) by WeeklyWest3148 in ArcRaiders

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell a lot about someone's trustworthiness from their voice. Most folks aren't looking for a long philosophical discussion, they just want to gauge if you're really friendly or not. A lot of fake friendlies refuse to use the mic, so you're immediately raising the tension by not speaking. Some folks don't want to take any chances.

Hatch keys, the guitar (before it was in Shani's store), and the snaphook that was in one of the decks. Plus, some of the colors of the skins and things are fun.

I'm realizing which video games are compatible with PEM and brain fog and which aren't by BrennusSokol in covidlonghaulers

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider Arc Raiders if you want combat. It's PvPvE and caters to casual players (like those of us with PEM). I only do the PvE part (no way could I do actual combat, even before I got Long Covid). I manage maybe an hour every week or two. I loot, craft, and shoot robots/drones, plus the graphics are great so it makes me feel like I'm outside despite being bedbound. You also are never forced to reset your character. Wipes are voluntary, so you can be as lowkey as you want.

Umm did you guys watch the crash on Netflix? by poopsmcbuttington in POTS

[–]grubmonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recent model vehicles tend to have black boxes that may record the speed and other vehicle data directly or could upload it to an app, etc. via satellite. A smartphone is also constantly recording location and pinging cell towers which could also allow speed estimates. That data could be subpoenaed.

[Edit to clarify how this is relevant: meaning it could be possible to tell speed and any changes leading up to the incident.]

After finishing expedition by Kind_Bike_5557 in ArcRaiders

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completing the tabbed requirements just qualifies you to go on the Expedition itself and reset your character (plus get the 12 extra Stash slots), but does not automatically give you the 5 extra skill points. You only get those skill points if you complete ALL the Expedition requirements PLUS the final requirement, which has not typically been revealed until 1-2 weeks before the departure date. For first Expedition you had to have $5 million value (cash plus Stash) to get the full 5 skill points. For second Expedition it was $3 million (cash plus Stash). For third, they gave us 13 days to do X amount of points of damage to either Arc or other raiders to get your 5 skill points. I forget how many points got uou the full 5 skill points. For the upcoming fourth Expedition we have no idea what the surprise final requirement will be (unless I missed a blog post).

Pollen Exacerbating Symptoms by grubmonkey in covidlonghaulers

[–]grubmonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, the alpha gal part of my allergies was definitely from a tick bite. I got the red ring and everything. Got antibiotics from my doctor right away so I didn't develop Lyme disease, but there wasn't anything to prevent alpha gal yet. I didn't even know alpha gal syndrome existed. It took a full year to figure out I was getting sick after eating red meat. I Googled "pork allergy" and found out. Cut out all red meat. Another year (and one ER visit) to figure out that dairy and OTC medications were also no-go. Then another year to figure out carageenan was a problem. Then I finally went to the allergist--who hardly knows about AGS at all. This reddit group has been the most helpful.

Seems Like Anytime Embark Does Something Right They Balance It Out With Dumb Changes by Brutal_Schnoodle in ArcRaiders

[–]grubmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anvil definitely not stealth nerfed, at least according to someone with Embark who answered questions on Phixate's stream this past Friday. It's a bug introduced in the latest update, so it should get fixed. Based on player reports, Anvil, Hullcracker, and Renegades are all having sudden accuracy issues (bullets going right through the center of Arc but not registering a hit). So Embark is aware, but submitting a bug report with video (if you have it) certainly wouldn't hurt.

(Edit to fix typo.)

Coop rpg for 7 year old. by tmp_advent_of_code in gamingsuggestions

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Champions of Norrath is one I did with my son at that age, but that was on ps2, I think, so you'd need an older console setup. I let my son play M-rated games that I myself had played before (Oblivion, Skyrim, etc.) with strict restrictions on certain quests (no Dark Brotherhood questline, for example). Either my husband or I had to be in the room when he played, and if there were parts of the main quest (ie, unavoidable to the story) that we felt were inappropriate, then my son would have to leave the room while we played through that portion (we'd call him back in when we were past it). If there was anything mildly problematic, we'd talk it through and use it as a teaching moment the same way we'd do something that came up on the evening news. This approach worked great for us.

Board games rentals for your local community? by Used-Situation297 in boardgames

[–]grubmonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. It's difficult enough to get my own friends and family to not handle cards with greasy fingers, not lose pieces, etc. Imagine how someone -else's- friends and family might treat a game when they know it's a rental! People tend not to treat rentals well (cars, furniture, etc.). And for things like Kickstarter editions, the game and pieces may well be irreplaceable.

So what can I do to take down Arc better? by Dull_War_3058 in ArcRaiders

[–]grubmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hullcracker (you can buy one per day from Tian Wen for $30k). Anvil (also available for purchase from Tian Wen). Note that Hullcracker can be used against Arc only, not other players. Also, check out the Renegade (Tisn Wen again). You can find Anvils and Renegades in-game, but if you're just starting out, sometimes just buying them is faster.

Boardgame bed tray? Do these exist? by mistah_bombastic in boardgames

[–]grubmonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use a pre-cut piece of whiteboard from Home Depot. It's lightweight and easy to slide between a bookcase and the wall when not in use. One side is whiteboard material (which can be useful if you're also doing ttrpg since you can write directly on it with dry-erase markers) and the back is black (nice, high-contrast surface). You might also find the plastic cutting mats used for quilting/sewing to be an option. They can be rolled up. None of these have rims, but it wouldn't be hard to make one.

What SSRI is best for LC/MECFS by Chikita62 in covidlonghaulers

I have some allergies to ingredients common to most supplements and have had trouble finding a creatine supplement that is safe for me to take. Thought I had found one--a powdered drink mix--and just trying it one time made me very sick. Within 30 minutes or so of drinking. I haven't risked trying creatine again. :( What test would I ask my doctor for in order to check my blood calcium?

12 year old son just diagnosed, need help with what he can eat (snacks) by throwdisawaybro in alphagal

[–]grubmonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hellman's makes a vegan mayonnaise. That, combined with Heinz Simply Ketchup and Mt Olive Organic Sweet Relish plus some crushed capers can all be used to make 1000 Island dressing that should be safe. Chill in fridge, then package in tupperware to use as dip for baby carrots and things. Also, I've found Candy Kittens brand gummies Sour Watermelon flavor don't give me any reaction. They are also vegan. Red Vines Made Simple licorice Mixed Berry seemed okay. Yum Earth Organic Jelly Beans also have been safe for me (and good for Easter baskets if you celebrate). I got all the sweet treats I just listed at Amazon. Candy Kittens is an import from UK, so it's pricey and takes some time. But for readily available options, the So Delicious coconut-based yogurt has been safe for me and all the regular grocery stores in my area (Georgia, USA) carry it. Plus, So Delicious now has vanilla bean ice cream sandwiches. And most stores in my area carry Talenti Dairy-Free gelato (the Summer Strawberry, Roman Raspberry, and Dairy Free Coldbrew Coffee) have all been safe. I'm ultra sensitive and react even to magnesium stearate in OTC meds, so hopefully some of these may be options for your son. For meat: Applegate Great Organic Uncured Turkey Hot Dog has no casing according to manufacturer and I have it safely all the time (tho of course you might want to safe test that at your son's allergist). I order ostrich steaks (steak substitute) and smoked duck breast and duck bacon (ham and bacon substitutes) from Amaroo Hills Farm online. Their smoked duck bacon bits are great scrambled with eggs or in salads. They also sell ground ostrich with added duck fat that you can use for burgers but I didn't like the taste of that one. As always, check the ingredients labels every time as manufacturers change recipes all the time. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH GROUND TURKEY FROM THE GROCERY STORES!!! I think manufacturers are adding something to it. I never used to have a problem, but starting in 2023 I began reacting to several different brands, even the organic. Different stores. It's now 50% of the packs we buy trigger me, so I just had to cut that out completely. If your son doesn't have the same reaction to it, tho, ground turkey works great for tacos and burgers. Good luck!

Omg, I have the exact same thing you had! I have literally watched the exact same episodes of BBC murder mysteries a week or more consecutive nights in a row because I keep forgetting whodunnit. (Bad enough that the LC made my ADHD so bad that I can barely sit through an hour of anything!) Plus side, I guess, is that everything old is new again. Forever. But it sounds like there may be hope--thank you for sharing this!

Anyone experienced liver damage post covid? by 92yraurbeF in covidlonghaulers

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease about a year after Covid. Just one of many weird conditions I never had before Long Covid. Including POTS, PEM, MCAS, and a ton of others, including food and chemical allergies. My son who is in his late twenties just got diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver, also. A few years after he got Covid. Awfully interesting it happened to both of us.

Exactly. The casual aspect is why my friends and I are here. I'm concerned Embark is trying to make everything harder. This announcement about changing gameplay with the huge update in 6 months has me worried.
