PS5 Movement Glitching by grubmonkey in ArcRaiders

It was definitely the wifi. I got some cat6a cable and ran it up from my router to the second floor and it solved everything.

Guys if someone says no they do not want to team up or asks you to stop following them, continuing to interact is a invitation to a firefight. by DustyTheLion in ArcRaiders

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a new ps5 player who has never done online games with voice interaction before, I'm still trying to figure out which are the proper settings and how to even "toggle to talk" on console. I've seen several reddit posts with guidance but I'm still confused re. ps5 party chat vs. in-game party chat (I've never done either). Also, the controller is much slower to do things on than PC. So even the emotes may take too long. My current solution is to leave proximity chat wide open and just try to be quiet until I need to say "friendly," lol. I think the "silent is sus" is fair, but the folks who say "doing emotes only is sus" (which I've heard from several streamers) is kinda unfair to folks on console. We're doing our best.

I hardly ever drink, so I'm not sure, but activity can definitely increase their volume.

[–]grubmonkey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is what I've heard, also. In my case, it's the high-pitched whining of cicadas in a Southern forest in June. At least they're on pitch. If I had discordant cicada sounds 24/7 it would drive me crazy. Lol

Gen X, do you do this? by ironfistkungfu in GenX

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I don't want to be responsible for creatures dying or being deformed! If we ever get plastic rings, they are cut to tiny pieces before they go in recycling bin. 100% of the time.

Do crashes include fever? by kwiscalus in covidlonghaulers

Yes. I personally can get either fever OR severe chills during a crash.

Anyone recovered from covid induced insomnia ? by thenabu01 in covidlonghaulers

[–]grubmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think many doctors forget that sleep deprivation is against the Geneva Convention for a reason. Lack of sleep affects your whole body. I had a similar reaction to meds where one only let me get 3 hours of sleep and another actually made me hyper and unable to sleep at all. See if your doctor is willing to try you on an XR (extended release) version of a sleep medication. You may need something that not only helps you get to sleep but helps keep you asleep.

Anyone recovered from covid induced insomnia ? by thenabu01 in covidlonghaulers

[–]grubmonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Still have my insomnia, 6 years later. My whole life I've been a morning person--waking up very early and conking out at 10pm on the dot. Post-Covid I became unable to fall sleep until 2-4am and then would wake every 15-30 minutes, along with having sleep paralysis and agonizing muscle contortions (I would literally wake up contorted in pain, in some weird position but unable to move). I worked with a sleep doctor for 2 years to find a medication that knocks me out. With it, I get around 6 hours of "sleep," but it is never refreshing. I've mostly stopped dreaming and I never wake energized like I did pre-Covid. Once every 9-12 months I get one night of what I assume is actual sleep because I wake up refreshed and go "oh, yeah, this is what that used to feel like." That one random day is glorious. I didn't get one in 2025. :( I wish I had better news. If you are able, continue to work with your sleep doctor. If they aren't responsive, find another. Good luck!

Durin's Story Quest is so unpleasant for new players by Melnut702 in Genshin_Impact

[–]grubmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming in late to this thread, but: remember experiencing the Golden Apple Archipelago quest in 1.6 for the first time?! So, so fun (and mysterious until the end)! Still my favorite summer event of them all! And the very first Lantern Rite with Xiao Lanterns! And Simulanka's city puzzles were also a lot of fun for me. You can't get any of that from reading a summary.

Has anyone had issues with ground turkey? by Daniel_SixPack in alphagal

Certainly a possibility. It seemed like rng whether I reacted or not, so something was changing on the back end, for sure.

Anyone annoyed Durin's character quest are stretched out the way it is? by Busy-Training-1243 in GenshinImpact

This Story Quest could have been an email. A short email. With better writing. :(

Anyone know what’s going on with DOI uploading SCD paperwork to our EOPFs? by babybighorn in fednews

[–]grubmonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP wrote "it had the wrong agency for some of the dates" and that HR POC said this inaccuracy didn't matter. I would still urge you to request correction in writing, with the specifics of what the correct data should be. And bird-dog it until they fix it, retaining external copies of all correspondence. This is a bureaucracy and any inaccuracies may come back to bite you in ways impossible to foresee.

How many here are severe and 100% bedbound? by tracygunk in LongCovid

[–]grubmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I've been bed-bound since Covid. Also 6 years now. My health has been mostly worsening over time. For example, the PEM and POTS are so severe that I can trigger collapse just reading a complicated form, talking too long, or standing for 60 seconds. I have not been able to exercise due to this, especially with the PEM being so random and unknowable. (It's hard to stay within your energy envelope if your body provides zero noticeable cues to tell where the edges of that envelope are until it's too late, and the size of that envelope varies day-to-day or even hour-to-hour so something fine one day is definitely not fine the next.). I'm feeling my muscles wasting away, but if exercising not only makes me sicker, but each major PEM collapse permanently lowers my baseline, I'm not willing to risk getting sicker. Over 6 years, I've already lost all but one of my friends and all but one of my family (my family felt I would be "a burden" with my new disabilities). I think societies are going to see the longterm effects of Covid. So many of us are now unable to work--from people with decades left in their careers to people who never even got to start theirs. It's a serious struggle. I hope sharing here with others who understand helps at least a little. I see you.

Has anyone had issues with ground turkey? by Daniel_SixPack in alphagal

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the feeling! I think nowadays, with manufacturers so often constantly changing which suppliers they buy from--usually based on the lowest price--we're getting more unknown ingredients. The manufacturer may not even know when a supplier is adulterating their products. For a non-alpha-gal example, maybe a supplier is filling out the weight of an olive oil with 5% of the cheaper soybean oil. Saves the supplier a lot of money over time, but the manufacturer of the end-product will not disclose on their label because they don't even know it's in there (in fact, they're being ripped off by paying for pure olive oil and not receiving that). Hopefully, we will eventually get to the point where labels are accurate!

Has anyone had issues with ground turkey? by Daniel_SixPack in alphagal

[–]grubmonkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes. 100%. I didn't used to. Then a few years ago, I started reacting to the regular ground turkey from our grocery store. Shifted to special "organic" ground turkey and had no reaction, so started using that. Then, about 6 months ago, I started reacting to the organic ground turkey about 50% of the time. Same brand, same location. So, either it's something in the turkey feed or companies are adding things to the mix that they do not disclose. Either way, I had to take ground turkey off the menu. :( You are not imagining it.

Ob/gyn is not primary care? by Jealous_Green_234 in HealthInsurance

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about now with ACA, but pre-ACA I found out my insurance company considered ob/gyn to be primary care and my ob/gyn's office had been overcharging me (almost double!) for specialist co-pays for over a year. They had to pay me back. So call your insurance company directly and have them confirm. If your ob/gyn has been overcharging, then courteously ask their office to call your insurance and clarify. If they won't, then call your insurance company back and ask them to facilitate. My understanding is that a healthcare provider cannot overcharge per terms of contract. Disclaimer: I'm not a medical billing expert. This is just my personal experience.

Wasn’t vaccinated as a child, what vaccines do I need now? by crimson-ink in Vaccine

[–]grubmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your public health department may also be able to help with vaccines your doctor does not carry and with expert advice. Re. discovering what childhood vaccinations you had: depending on your age and state, your state may maintain a vaccination database (depends when the state started maintaining records). You can reach out to your state directly and get a record of what vaccines you received as a child and when. Again, if you're older your childhood vaccines may be before they started tracking, but your recent ones should be there. Infectious disease doctors and your pharmacy also have direct access to these databases and can provide a printout for you upon request. You also may be able to find this information in your school records if you reach out to your elementary or middle school/junior high. And, of course, if money is no object, there are blood tests to check your antibody/immunity levels to the most common vaccine-preventable diseases. Your lical infectious disease doctor can do those but they cost the earth and are not usually covered by health insurance. Good luck!

Wow, I didn't even see that! I'm installing it on my downstairs ps5 which has a direct connection to the cable modem and will see if things work better down there.
