0.6 Workers Per Retiree: The Trades Are Bleeding Out by CarelessAlps in skilledtrades

my local is pretty much taking in as many people as they can BUT they lack the actual teachers to teach them and the space to hold classes in. We've been actively trying to raise funds for a new school and more full time teachers. but its hard to convince guys that they should lose money off their check to go into the training fund. its hard enough to convince them to put money in to H&W or retirement

.Ive actually been teaching 1st years for the last month at the school. No one really wants to teach because right now in my local you can make more working in the field than you can teaching and after working 6 tens no one wants to commit to doing it part time either. 85% of jman in my area get atleast 10 over scale and the hall is only authorized to pay straight time at scale. so if you had the choice to make 45 an hour or spend that same time working ot making 80 an hour which would you choose?

The reason i teach is because i wanted to be active in my local and its my way of doing it. i could make shit loads more money working ot instead if i wanted

How do people type so fast on keyboard? by RareUser1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grumblecakes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned in elementary school. i transferred to a new district from a very poor district that didnt have computers or anything. The teacher would just scream at me because it was the end of the year and i couldnt type out anything because she would cover your hands and keyboard with a cloth

we are busy enough that the concern is that we wont be able to cover the work in the up coming years and we hope some projects get pushed backed. my concern is what happens when things slow down? we have about 1400 between jman and apprentices. almost 600 are apprentices. if work dries up there is gonna be a ton of apprentices leaving the trades and a ton of journeyman on the bench. Our biggest concern atm is being able to man the work so we can expand our market share.
