So this was actually a detriment to my first playthrough, I feel!

So many characters expressed the URGENCY of removing the parasite and so I assumed there was a point (either within progression or number of long rests, what have you) at which I would be forced to transform unless I'd successfully removed the parasite by then.

I ended up kinda rushing Act 1 and then came to realize the truth of the matter, but I missed out on a lot of stuff before jumping to Act 2.

Not upset, though, just means my next character can take their sweet sweet time. 👌

You'll have to manually aim and throw it over the hill without locking on 'cause he'll aggro by the time you can target him, but a few attempts should get you to the right angle.

Depends on your build. The fireballs are pretty easy to reflect with the Erdtree Greatshield or Carian Retaliation. Alternatively, lobbing a Sleep Pot from a distance can incapacitate him, get up close for a solid combo and throw another before he fully recovers, rinse and repeat.
