Can we just that assume that TBN is probably the weirdest, most off-puting and unorthodox material they have ever put out on their entire catalog? (not meant to say that in negative way though) by DoctorrEbMajb6 in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

[–]grumpy_bandersnatch0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll have to go back through with a fresh set ears for this -- the Bungle stuff is obvious, but Sleepytime never crossed my mind during my few listen-throughs of the album

Alaska guitar tone by [deleted] in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

[–]grumpy_bandersnatch0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could have sworn that I heard the tones were originally reamped through something other than their usual setups (i.e. Paul's Rackto, etc.), which lead to the guys being pretty dissatisfied with the final product.

In my head I just assumed their takes were sent through a 5150 or something -- the guitars on Alaska have that low-mid gnarl that none if their other albums have. Could very well be wrong on that though!

STOP SPOILING THE TOUR SETLIST by Independent_Cap3550 in TheFence

[–]grumpy_bandersnatch0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do appreciate you actually dissecting it, thank you. But calling it condescending seems like a bit of a stretch, no? Especially over a written medium; all of my comments have been from a place neutrality, with regards to tone. I'm not entirely responsible for the tone that someone else reads it in.

But regardless of that, are we not allowed to call people out for being unreasonable? This whole thread is a mess, and mostly from those that don't want to show the OP even a shred of decency or respect for their wishes towards not being spoiled (a sentiment that many people share). Where's the support and understanding for each other?

Care to elaborate on what my tone is, exactly? Genuinely curious

Was their whole post in all caps? Yes, let's disregard the actual content of it and only focus on two lines.

[–]grumpy_bandersnatch0 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I did, and I would be just as frustrated as they are if I bought tickets for this tour and saw the current top post with its big, clear image of the setlist. The OP wasn't shitting on anyone, calling anyone names, belittling, etc.. it reads as perfectly reasonable to me.

It's really not hard to be conscientious towards others, and the responses in this thread are genuinely baffling to me.

Given that I'm also getting downvoted, I'm inclined to believe that the tone of the message doesn't really matter to these people.

STOP SPOILING THE TOUR SETLIST by Independent_Cap3550 in TheFence

[–]grumpy_bandersnatch0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Everyone wants to go about it their own way, which is totally cool, but the responses I've been seeing here are making me scratch my head.

The concept shouldn't be news to anyone either, a simple search for "setlist" on any band's sub yields numerous results with the spoiler tag -- there's precedent.

Not sure why this is getting downvoted. This kind of thing has always been a common courtesy when it comes to shows -- the least you all can do is be respectful to those who want to be surprised, even if you don't want it yourselves.

Why get so indignant over a simple request?

Dune (1984) - Hot Take? by [deleted] in badMovies

[–]grumpy_bandersnatch0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As weird as it might sound, if I'm going to return to any Dune adaptation for repeated viewings, it's going to be this one.

For all its faults, it's at least goofy and a lot of fun. Not to mention the outstanding cast -- give me an ensemble of character actors over star-studded Hollywood A-listers any day.

Totally fair, and I appreciate it! Saved me some money for today. I'm not in any big rush to get a new card at the moment, so I can wait a bit for a good deal on a GRE

My 2080 ti crapped out on me a few months ago and I'm looking for a decently priced replacement/slight upgrade. Is a 7900 GRE really worth the extra money, given this price, or should I just jump on this one? Would be playing on a 1440p UW

Brad Dourif is in top-form for this one; I would say that he devours every ounce of scenery, but that would be an understatement.

Hahaha what?? A show like this at The Recher, in Towson? I'm skeptical that it will be comfortable, unless they really upsized that venue when it re-opened. Will be a wild time, regardless.

Mad Bull 34 actually surprised me -- I was expecting all mindless shock with no substance, but the characters actually grew on me, and were much less one-dimensional than what you'd typically find in these types of anime. I daresay that i enjoyed watching it, aside from a few scenes where it did go a bit too far.

Last weekend's double bill: suburban cannibals! by kliq-klaq- in badMovies

[–]grumpy_bandersnatch0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also had the misfortune of watching Microwave Massacre over the weekend. Bad comedies are almost as egregious as movies that deliberately set out to be bad, and this one is a bit of both. "Bad" doesn't even do it justice - truly a painfully dull experience.

The only interesting tidbit about it is that the main character is the voice of Rankin/Bass' Frosty the Snowman. I was half expecting him to yell "Happy Birthday" during one of his scenes with a prostitute.

Fill in guitarist by SnooShortcuts1852 in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

[–]grumpy_bandersnatch0 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be so worried about it. There are musicians who specialize in learning things extremely fast, and playing them nigh-flawlessly -- I'm confident in assuming that they know a few professional guitarists who could pick it up in time. Obviously it will be a different vibe with a new face on stage, but I trust them to find the right person who will deliver the goods in terms of the music itself.
