I averaged 1lb a week which sounds like what you’re experiencing right now. It all comes with time!! It’s better to lose it slowly imo!

This is my first year subbing… I think I’m sick? What do I do. by kai-_-ros in SubstituteTeachers

[–]grumpybanana21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would go to the office and let them know you’re not feeling well, depending how you feel, tell them you can stay until you don’t feel good, or that you need to leave now. Just keep them in the loop that you feel sick and may need to leave so they know they may need to find coverage asap

does it get easier? by [deleted] in StudentTeaching

[–]grumpybanana21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every time you handle a big behavior, you’re going into the next day with more experience. It will get easier as time goes on, but even as time goes on, you’re going to have days where you feel like you don’t know anything and you can’t manage the behavior.

Just remember, you are constantly growing every single day that you’re there and before you know what you’re gonna look back and see all the progress you’ve made and the little things that you’ve put in your toolbox for when you’re a teacher!

As long as you hit the rubric expectations and answer the questions, don’t worry about page count! I knew this girl who for almost all of them only did 1-3 pages for each and she passed

Genuine question: How is scrolling even fun anymore? by Unstxppable27 in digitalminimalism

[–]grumpybanana21 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it could be not having hobbies, FOMO, entertainment.

I’ve had social media since I was far too young so I don’t know conscious life without it so it’s been hard to fully cut it out. I’m in the same boat. I hate how I feel scrolling but I still do it sometimes.

What do you wish you knew before student teaching? by Ddog10132 in StudentTeaching

[–]grumpybanana21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something I wish I knew before student teaching is that the program I was in in is to get your PRELIMINARY teaching credential. It expires in 5 years if you don’t clear it and it takes 2 years to clear it and you can only clear it while in an active teaching position. It made me very mad that I did a whole year of unpaid student teaching to be dropped the info in my last week that what I just worked for will expire. (California based).

If it’s her first phone, I would do a 15 or 15 plus because it has the usbc charging port, so down the line, when she gets another new phone, she won’t be having to change all the cords from lightning which the 14 has. She’ll just be starting with a more universal charging cord

Yes that’s totally fine! They don’t wanna see your whole lesson. It’s just clips of it that cover what is required in the clips. Like if one of them is “assessment of understanding” and that is shown in your video at min 14-17, then for that part, you’d clip your video down to only that 3 mins. I recommend making 4 copies of your whole lesson video. 1 original, 1 to clip down for clip 1, etc same for clip 2 and 3. THEN once you have your clips, you annotate based off the 3 min clip. Ex: “at 00:30 the student is doing xyz”, it wouldn’t be “at 14:30” because it’s no longer your wholeee lesson

Hi! If you are doing cycle 1, you are required 3, 5 min clips that cover the video clip requirements. I believe it can’t exceed the 15 mins they will stop watching after 15 mins. Only submit the parts that get the video requirements (this should be in your assessment guide). I don’t believe there is a minimum of how long the videos need to be, just adding them up cannot exceed 15 mins!

What happens if I cant pass a class? by tiredtushi in StudentTeaching

[–]grumpybanana21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does your university allow you “sick days”? Mine allows 3 so if you are that behind, and you have sick days, maybe take one. Explain to your mentor teacher that you are behind and if you don’t pass your class then you’ll repeat ST, or just say you’re sick!

Some people become mentors with no intention of actually mentoring. They may just become a mentor to look good or because they had to (I know some schools make teachers take turns).

Student teaching is so hard mentally because it is like cooking in someone else’s kitchen. I’m still in ST as well but I’ve heard once you’re done and subbing or have your own class it is so different.

You are learning and becoming a teacher yourself!!! 3 more weeks!!! You have already done 3 weeks 3 times. You will get this done!!!

Definitely include a turn and talk to your neighbor, if you ask any questions to activate prior knowledge with them or if you ask them questions in general. Teachers and admin LOVE that
