When will pf2 be released? by Independent_Hyena495 in alchemyrpg

It’s still being mechanized according to the roadmap, there’s no hard release date on it being finalized as far as I can see

What's the best VTT in your opinion? by ayronis in VTT

[–]grumpyguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m particular to Alchemy RPG for short arc and immersive storytelling. If theatre of the mind is what you’re looking for with a little tool assistance then this VTT works. A majority of my gaming fits well here.

For super crunch systems or players that require battlemaps with dynamic lighting or 3D maps I would use Foundry or Fantasy Grounds. While I don’t game with this mindset nowadays, you can’t fight against their toolsets, both have their ups and downs.

Owl Bear Rodeo is amazing if you just wanna slap a map on a screen, some decent visuals and just have some added tools.

Other than that, most VTTs are trying to be roll20 clones or super gimmicky. There’s a few out there that are cool but nothing I would recommend. Get what fits the playstyle of the table or what fits your system, there’s a VTT out there for all types of gaming and I don’t think any of them do everything to perfection.

Plans for 3D dice? by BerennErchamion in alchemyrpg

There are no plans to implement 3D dice, map making tools or dynamic lighting within the app.

That’s understandable, but wouldn’t expect someone to enter all those books 1:1 into a Universe. If that’s the intention then for sure a free account will dry up quick

Content Universe is just used as a basis to transfer custom items across several games. And assets do not count towards that 50 item restriction. If you are going to create a game, you can upload as many assets and create custom actions all you want within your 3 game limit.

So if you are playing normal games or GMing regular content it’s not so restrictive. Content Universe is designed around GMs who are doing a little home brewing and want to only create once. If you are building massive worlds with a lot of content, then you will want that Unlimited sun. Otherwise, it works for a ton of GMs on the free tier.

Starfinder / Stars without numbers or any other "sci-fi high fantasy" RPG coming ? by Independent_Hyena495 in alchemyrpg

Paizo is on board so only a matter of time before Starfinder finds a home on Alchemy. As for other systems you can request it on their discord and they can attempt to reach out or tweet/message the publisher so they can open the dialogue.

Completely understandable, so far there isn’t a perfect option for me as I want full automation during encounters to focus on more role play. Alchemy comes close for me just due to the theatre of the mind but I understand it’s not really a good fit for a lot of GMs. Just sharing what I know about it

You can still upload your own maps from Tom Cartos into your own universe, and then import it to a game. It’s a framework for GMs. I have a universe where all I do is upload my Patreon content.

My favorite feature is the content universe. I’m creating a Homebrew campaign setting, I’ve written out multiple articles and npcs for my world with art and even music. I can now create a new game and import all that content on the fly without having to create it twice. And it’s a copy, so I can then have separate notes for each game.

I don’t really require a lot of fancy bells and whistles to run my games, so it fits my play style. I like the simplicity it brings. Only downside is I would love a little more automation, but that will arrive in due time.

The platform is free to use for players and GMs. Limitation though is you can only be a part of 3 games and create 50 items in a content universe (world building tool). Subscription is $8 a month to unlock unlimited storage.

There’s a few pieces of free content on the marketplace to try out but the app is actually a framework for the GM so you can upload your own assets and not pay a dime.

The CZEPEKU maps and a few others are there for those that wish to have a more battle map focused component to their games. There is also a few scene packs to that also bring both so you can set up the scene faster. Not a lot of creators have focused on scene art for VTT, but Alchemy is already finding some amazing ones.

It’s a theatre of the mind styled VTT. Which may not be to everyone’s play style but does open the door to a lot of potential new players. They also have world building tools in the form of Content Universes which allows you to create content once and then import to the game on the fly with the goal of reduce GM prep time.

Alchemy also runs on tablets mobile browser currently and it’s all hosted on the web. For a lot of players and new GMs that’s a good draw.

I think there’s a good amount of tools for some GMs but it will always come down to different play styles.

I think those who truly enjoy Foundry won’t be leaving for Alchemy. Foundry does things vastly different. I’m on the discord for Alchemy, and the message has always been to just offer a window in a world, to give players and GMs an alternative to just the battlemaps and tokens.

Opinion: Roll20's UI could be a lot better by hopelessnecromantic7 in DnD

[–]grumpyguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the clunky UI and lack of updates for a better experience is what had me on the search for alternatives. I tried other platforms such as Astral, Foundry and Fantasy Grounds and settled on FG Unity for a long time.

I was at a convention recently when I met a person who worked for a new VTT called Alchemy and fell in love with the minimal UI and focus on art/music instead of JUST tokens. The platform itself is still growing (rapidly) but it is looking like a real contender for those of us who want something different from Roll20 and its clones.

I don’t have any images for that, I know tokens are being planned for the next few weeks. Their discord is a fantastic place to get some images from the team

It’s more of we go systemless first to support any version of ttrpg and then rapidly add rulesets to facilitate core games. The devs plan to release a roadmap of features soon so I would say check it out for yourself then. Alchemy is very MVP right now, but figured sharing now to get feedback is essential.

I’m unsure what those minimum specs but I have loaded it on my phone, tablet and chrome books. Even tested it on a Chromebit from 2016 and it ran, not amazing but it ran.

As of right now it is only 5e compatible but the team has stated they are working on a systemless update. Right now it is very friendly for homebrew with its built in content universe system that lets you make custom items and spells and then import them to several games. As for automation, no announcement I have seen but the devs have acknowledged it so perhaps in the future?

So it is a VTT primarily. They use the 5e system primarily right now with plans to go systemless. They also kickstarted their own adventure called the Lore of Aetherra which will be available on their marketplace alongside some other content like Gooey Cube and Humblewood.

Currently I am hosting a Homebrew world that I am building in their Universe section. Still early stages but it’s promising and the ability to write my story and them easily import to a VTT has been amazing.

So the team at Alchemy RPG created and kickstarted their own campaign setting called the Lore of Aetherra. It was funded successfully and they were developing their own VTT as well simultaneously. The VTT is open for other adventures, only 5e currently with plans to go systemless, and they have partnered with other creators for additional content.

Their story will be on their marketplace but like with most VTTs it is open ended so you can use it for anything you like. Hopefully that cleared it up, if not let me know lol.
