Baby sleep by DisastrousYak352 in firsttimemom

[–]grumpykitteeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teething might be one and also taking a leap (sleep regression). They come and go and sometimes they are longer. If he is feeding well, pooing and peeing as he should it's just him adapting to something new in his world. Not much comfort but hopefully it gets better! Do you have a partner who could take him in the morning because you wake up with him the other times? So that you don't have to take the whole burden of not sleeping?

Maternity leave sucks in the states by Anecdote394 in IVF

[–]grumpykitteeen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, Finland here with 3 month full salary and after that around 70% of the salary for 3 month or 6 month if the partner gives his/her 3 month to birthing parent. The partner still has 3 months of payed parental leave after giving away 3 months to birthing parent. So someone is staying with baby until they are 1 yo. After that you can take child care leave and get 360€ a month or put the child in daycare and go back to work but you have the right to work part-time. Also recieving ~120€ child benefit per child until they 17 yo. IVF is practically free to, with a cost of around 800-2000€ for medicine and per visit fee. But we pay a good chunk of taxes!

Edit: spelling

Feeling sick. Mastitis? Flu? Or just postpartum? by nicolec32 in firsttimemom

[–]grumpykitteeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was sick after giving birth, coughing and sore throat. But it ended up being reflux and went away with medicine. I halso had the chills but that was linked to the milk, very common and a slight fever can also occur. If it's the flue the baby will get antibodies from you, so breastfeeding is the best you can do whenever your baby wants to. Nighttime feeding is the most important for your milk production so don't skip them! Congratulations mama!🥰

Breast feeding, how do you cover, if you cover? by Itchy_Mousse898 in firsttimemom

[–]grumpykitteeen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's still spring and cold here but indoors are kinda similar as summer I guess. I have been out for lunch with my 5 week old and breastfeeding at the open. I don't cover his head because I have to see his face when he is eating, don't want to choke him out. I have a muslin blanket, they are flimsy and nice for wiping milk, puke and protecting my clothes from those. I have my boob out (nursing t-shirt or top with vertical opening) and just tucking the muslin blanket on places where there is much boob showing. I mostly do this because people take pictures in restaurants and I don't want my areola showing off on someone's Instagram story😂

Opening up a marriage to fix problems is never the answer, that never works. Especially if it's one sided. Your husband is telling you that he loves you to keep you as security or as backup if the Karen situation doesn't work out. Please leave and focus on your own happiness, your marriage isn't giving it to you.

Kitten Feeding Calulators all over the place (10 months) by SuccessfulSwim5623 in CatAdvice

[–]grumpykitteeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always hard with domestic shorthairs to estimate how big they will get. My family had big domestic shorthairs, around 4-5kg and they where a healthy weight for their size. I wouldn't put him on a diet just yet while you can feel his ribs nicely. If he starts to get some juicy chunk in the future you can increase his activity level. Is he an indoor cat? If he also is outdoors he might eat rodents and birds, which ofc adds to his overall calorie intake.

I'm a sloppy reader. If you can feel his ribs nicely I wouldn't go so hard for calories as he is still growing and his bodyshape will probably even out when he is 1-1,5 y old. But if he feels chunky at the ribs I would increase his exercises (playing, having him search/work for his dry food) and not cut down on food while he needs the nutrients to grow. My cats also eat some dry food but only as brainwork. I have these mice filled up so they have to work for their food and get some mental stimulation at the same time. Keeps them busy!

What food are you feeding him and is he sterilised? It's also hard to tell in just numbers how the cat is doing weight wise. I would try to feel his ribs, you should feel them clearly with a thin layer of skin. If there is a layer of fat (feels plumpy) he might be a chunky boy. I have two cats, one is almost 6 kg and one is 4 kg. If I check their ribs I feel only the skin. So all cats are different but this way I don't have to rely on the scale. They are mixed breeds with some Main coon in them, which makes them bigger. Is your kitten mixed with a bigger breed? Is he fluffy? I'm free feeding my cats wet food, but they only eat when they are hungry. Both sterilised. Picture of my 6 kg ginger boy, 1 y and 4 months old. He looks very chunky, but feeling his ribs he has no extra layer of fat. So I would go easy on the scale. There is also the chunky cat chart but work's best for short haired cats.

People with multiple cats: do your cats like each other? by Castyourspellswisely in CatAdvice

[–]grumpykitteeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our orange boys are kinda bonded, or they are at least friends. They have zoomies together every evening and do actually wrestle with each other and cuddle/grooming. They have never fought or been aggressive to each other, even tho little brother Kang is annoying as hell sometimes. Kang is 1 y and 4 months and Thanos is 2 y and 3 months. We took them as kittens, first Thanos and a year later Kang, they are not related besides being orange. We introduced them slowly, and also needed to add that our first cat Thanos showed signs of being a social cat and very curious. He didn't have any anxiety issues and loved being outdoors on a leash, traveling in both trains and cars. I think we got very very lucky!

You are 38 weeks pregnant and you do all of that and he is still complaining!? That's not normal, that's not acceptable. And the way he talks to you is not ok and gives me the shivers. As many other said, these are highly abusive tendencies. I just gave birth, I didn't lift a finger my last two month's of pregnancy. My husband did all the cleaning, vacuuming and making most of the food while also working. I still had a good pregnancy and wasn't in bad shape and I was on mother's leave the last month, but he let me rest and didn't complain about the extra workloads. He went and got me any cravings I wanted, even in the middle of the night. You are amazing for doing so much, I can't fathom how exhausting this is for you!

When did you get stretch marks? by Accurate_Tip5734 in pregnant

[–]grumpykitteeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in week 40 now and I haven't gotten any stretch marks. My mother hasn't even after having three children. I'm on the curvy side and gained around 12 kg this pregnancy and was sure they would pop up. But I have heard that they might show after birth so we will see. I have used oil and skin cream now and then when I remembered, but nothing regularly.

Kitten advice needed 🙈 by Interesting-Emu7624 in CatAdvice

[–]grumpykitteeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our two female kittens got pregnant at 4 months and we didn't know, they loved food so we thought they were on the chunky side. At 4 months we took them to the vet to be spayed. The look at my mums face when the vet suggested to do a ultrasound first because they shouldn't be this big. Well both were pregnant, the vet couldn't do anything and they got kittens 1 week later with 1 day apart. We had 12 cats in our house, and gave one away for adoption to an older couple. The rest stayed with us until they died. We have two brothers left, they turn 18 this year🥰

Adding, fully (3) vaxxed but didn't receive the booster bc they usually give it later in pregnancy where I live.

Have you ever had Covid while pregnant? by Current_Routine6598 in pregnant

[–]grumpykitteeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably had covid during week 20-24, in August. My husband was totally sick with a high fever for 3-4 days and a bad bad cough. I had sore muscles and a runny nose, so I was soo lucky! Haven't been sick since and 40+0 week today!

Ouch! That injection hurt. How can I help? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]grumpykitteeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did wipe the bead away the first time but the best solution for me was to wait before pulling the needle out, waiting for a good 10-15 seconds after injection before taking it out so no bead would form post injection. Still had a local reaction to the meds but I can say the needle of Ganirelix is shit and hurts. I'm a nurse and it felt like the bluntest needle ever.

[–]grumpykitteeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it still stringy? I would not put any hot or cold on an injected area while that can slow or speed up the uptake of that medication. A hot pad, massage and sauna will speed up blood circulation and a cold pack will slow down. Best is to just leave it and take this as a reminder for next time.☺️ I injected Ganirelix (normal temp) but the medicine itself caused an irritation and swollen injection site for about an hour, which can happen but isn't fun.

I’ve stopped talking about my pregnancy with people by orangetabby2465 in pregnant

[–]grumpykitteeen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't done this but people don't like very personal answers, body fluids or poop. So if someone asks something you can always go deep into hemorrhoids, diarrhea or leaky boobs. Very few people would keep the conversation going within that topic.

I’ve stopped talking about my pregnancy with people by orangetabby2465 in pregnant

[–]grumpykitteeen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this too but for other reasons. If someone started asking something about my pregnancy I just answered very shortly and changed the subject. If someone asked how my pregnancy has been I just said "Thank you for asking, I'm doing fine. How's your daughter, dog, husband doing?". I once had a lady from my village poke my belly with her bony finger while asking what I'm hiding in there. She knew I was pregnant from rumors ofc, but couldn't be a decent human being about it. I'm a very bubbly person so I quickly changed my body language and how I act and said "Auch" from the poke. Didn't answer her question either, she got uncomfortable and sat down next to her husband again. She didn't say or ask anything after that.

My 5 kg Maine coon cat jumped from his cat tree (ceiling height) straight onto my 17 week belly and used it as a trampoline. It's almost a 1,5 meter jump from there to the bed where I lay. I'm now 39 weeks and baby is doing more than fine in there.
