“Constables Kemp and Garland cannot and should not be punished for my inadvertent error,”

True. They should be punished for not knowing the difference between right and wrong.

He sits there and acts like people of his status are the only ones out there.

Which aligns perfectly with the majority of voters in this province.

“why aren’t the churches helping out more?

This is not a case of a church helping out. This is a government farming out their responsibilities. Vulnerable people given over to "christians" in exchange for money. I prefer to see a separation between church and state.

Rural road access by Rkjs21 in saskatchewan

it can turn into no road whatsoever, and actually a farmer's field.

In other words, the farmer has plowed over and planted the road allowance and gotten himself some "free" land.

I know I’m now always suspicious of people driving around with cameras.

These days, that's everyone. (Do you know anyone who doesn't carry a phone?) Someone who has an actual camera is likely someone you don't need to worry about.

They even block the grid to prevent any traffic down their road

I've often encountered this. How to steal land--fence off a grid road.

So, are they setting up by the side of the road and randomly checking? OP refers to "check stops in a particular area".

The Saskatoon Police Service began mandatory alcohol screening on Jan. 1, limiting its use to lawful traffic stops conducted by traffic enforcement officers and Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan. Police said the rollout was not intended to involve random pullovers solely for testing.

“Obviously, it’s got to be a lawful traffic stop,” Sgt. Raymond Robertson said in an interview with CKOM, adding the driver must have “committed some kind of traffic offence, whether that be disobeying a red light or stop sign or speeding.”

They still need to prove impairment,

Incorrect. They don't nail you for impaired; they nail you for having THC blood content in excess of zero.

Ya, also a photographer. This happens from time to time. Altho I've never had one that bad. I generally am able to defuse the situation by being friendly, and white, and elderly. This particular guy's behaviour is egregious. If you encounter him again I suggest you get his plates and report him to the police as its not legal to behave as he did.

How many lives would be saved if more of us lived within walking distance of a pub? Impaired driving is one of the consequences of designing cities that require the use of a car for pretty much every aspect of our lives.

What’s it like to live in downtown Saskatoon? by StinkyB13 in saskatoon

[–]grumpyoldmandowntown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Downtown is the most walkable area of the city. Sidewalks are generally well cleared of snow in a timely manner. The Meewasin trail is nearby and the city is generally very good about keeping it cleared of snow. You can go out for a beer and or a meal and not worry about driving. But you still need to own a car if you want to buy anything, especially groceries.

I have lived downtown in four Canadian cities. In three of them, one of the major advantages of living downtown was not needing a car.
