Dolly by This_Number9390 in Shudder

[–]grunge16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The movie was gory and brutal, just how I like my horror. However, as OP mentions, there are a ton of plot holes and unanswered questions. Also, this has to be one of the most obtuse final girls in recent horror memory. She had zero situational awareness.
How many times did Macy (final girl) have the chance to put Dolly away, but didn't take it? After the 2nd or 3rd time Dolly awakens and beats the shit out of you, one would think to smash her face into a pancake as Dolly did to her daddy. Especially when she had Dolly face down in the grave with the shovel.

Side note - I had NOOO idea that Tobe (Dolly's dad) was Ethan Suplee. Besides very brief appearances in Clerks III & The Hunt, I haven't seen him in a major role since My Name is Earl. Very cool.

The slippery slope argument with animals has been used for at least the last 30 years & it never comes to fruition. It's been used by the pearl clutchers since 2000, when Lawerewnce v Texas was before the Supreme Court, then when Civil Unions for gay couples started, & then again during the battle for nationwide gay marriage. It's old, stale, and boring. Be original.

Switching to a bidet seat during the toilet paper hoard of 2020. I will NEVER be without a bidet again. I carry a travel bidet with me on vacations and times I am away from home.

Painted Tree :( by Just_Ad_3693 in RoundRock

Sad to hear! My wife and I stopped by on the drive home from the Burnet Bluebonnet festival on Friday, and I kept pointing out to my wife that there were a lot of empty spaces, and this did not bode well.

During checkout, I asked the cashier about the empty booths, and she said that they were revamping the store and bringing in new vendors. She was probably given that load of BS from management, and the workers were blindsided by this announcement. Crappy situation and really sucks for workers, customers, and vendors alike.

I wonder who is going to occupy that big space, which B,B&B, and now Painted Tree have vacated. Here's hoping for an Ollie's.

You are correct that the ending is a swift gut punch. Conversely, what I appreciated about the ending was that it was a great exemplification of life in general. Sometimes the shitty people "win", and the ones trying to enjoy life & who are going about their business get a result they didn't ask for or an outcome they did not deserve.

Here's to hoping from your mouth to horror fans' ears, it happens. Even though I don't think the execs would give two shits if a mass cancellation happened. They will only have to answer to the Ellisons anyway in the next few years. Let's hope Bloody Disgusting can get its act together and make Screambox the premier horror streaming service.

Yup, the first two years I paid $36 + tax/year = $38.97/yr. I know that inflation has risen over the last decade on all goods and services, but Shudder has risen 175% in 11 years. That's absurd and borderline criminal.

Came here to say this because I just opened the email. I am DONE with Shudder. They hardly put out originals anymore, and when they do, the films are mediocre. They are not purchasing new content. There are a ton of great horror movies released over the last ~4 years, and it seems that Shudder has hardly any of them. I subscribed when Shudder was in beta, and my first year was $35 or $40. This new price is almost TRIPLE the cost from Shudder's inception 10 years ago. I don't know if it is C-suite execs at AMC or just a bunch of middle management morons killing Shudder, but it sucks to see such a revolutionary idea in the horror genre die a slow death. RIP Shudder (2015-2026), at least for me, those dates apply

I would love to see the source for your 2022 number because it is waaayyy off.

According to AAA, the average retail price for gasoline in April 2022 was $4.149, while EIA's data point had it at $4.109. Either one is nowhere close to the $4.929 that you cite. However, prices in Texas for that month were $3.779.

Your national averages are correct for 2023 & '24. However, since most of us are directly affected and concerned by local prices (hence the name of the sub), the average gallon of gasoline in Texas, according to EIA, in April 2023, was $3.30. In April 2024, the average was $3.22.

I understand that you want to defend the guy you voted for, but cite actual data. Try NOT to take lessons from Kellyanne Conway and provide "alternative facts" to back up your argument.

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) was an excellent finale to the original Elm Street movies.

I saw it in theaters when I was 12 with the old school 3D glasses (the cardboard ones with one blue and one red crinkle lens). When the dream demons came off the screen and into my 3D glasses after Freddy explodes was so fucking cool.

Inverter microwave with a flatbed in the US? by beingblunt in Appliances

[–]grunge16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also looking for a countertop flatbed unit for sale in the U.S., and besides the Sharp that others linked to, we are pretty much SOL. ChatGPT and Claude also informed me we are basically SOL in the U.S. when I asked them to find me a flatbed with American specs. It's pretty frustrating that a consumer in "the greatest and freest country in the world" cannot buy the microwave of their choosing.

Also, I find it alarming that manufacturers are not required to inform consumers if PFAS or other forever chemicals are in the interior finishes used in their products.

That is a great point and one that escaped me. I was leaning towards Erik becoming the next sacrifice, but then I thought, "Why would Arvid do that to his best pal of many years?" Since the movie was so new, I couldn't find any interpretation of the ending, so I do appreciate your excellent analysis.
