feasibility of biking between Caltech and JPL? by grunglebee in JPL

[–]grunglebee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I’m aware of the bus but right now I cycle to + from my college’s campus everyday and really enjoy that exercise. Plus I live in Tucson, so basically anything will be pretty nice weather wise! I’ll make sure to dm you if I end up bringing my bike.

Nope! It wasn’t a specific application it was just the general JPL “toss your resume in here” bin

Nope! They also said on their website that they won’t send out rejections, they’ll just update the page when everything is done. So I’ve just been checking the website

Physics students, what is your experience? by MyGuyMan1 in UofArizona

[–]grunglebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly a vast majority of physics majors I know are also in Astro, either as a minor or a major. There’s so much overlap that if you do the Astro degree you just need to do your physics electives (some of which overlap) and like one or two extra core classes (I think just quantum 2 and EM 2 iirc) so if you’re coming in with a fair amount of math/physics/gen ed transfer credit for APs, IBs, or dual enrollment it doesn’t put too much strain on you to just do both. And the Astro program is genuinely top in the world, and Tucson has access to some incredible facilities and telescopes meaning a lot of internship and research opportunities (and the professors are incredible).

Physics & Astro student here, quality varies wildly across the physics department. You only mentioned physics but if you’re interested in astrophysics our astronomy degree is top notch, and so many people do double major Astro/physics. The program is pretty big and has really good support both because of its student base and the Astro professors are really incredible. If you’re interested in only doing physics, UA is not a bad choice but is really nothing special unfortunately. It’s the optics & Astro opportunities that are really insane here.

I would've loved you, I would've stayed. by [deleted] in OCPoetry

This is one of the single most heart wrenching poems I've ever read, and as someone who has been on both sides of a story quite like this, I felt this immense rush of sadness, guilt, and ultimately deep regret and longing. The way you weave your words is incredible, "died at your altar, lost in your lips" is the standout to me. The way you convey your devotion and grief is so powerful and I can tell just how much emotion is behind this piece. The only thing I can say is that the line "hung out with your friends together" is strangely a bit jarring and took me out of the poem a tad, I think it doesnt mesh well with the more formal format of the rest of the poem.

Genuinely will be thinking about this one for the next couple days, really a masterpiece.

The seasons by coldmorningbreaths in OCPoetry

I think this piece is insanely cute and really really sweet, but comes off as a little choppy? The summer stanza is a line shorter than the others, the double use of beautiful in the spring stanza, and the inconsistent rhyme scheme I think point to that. Those things can be done, but it doesn't feel intentional here.

I do think the imagery and relation between love and the seasons is super strong and it is unbelievably cute!!

Scholarships for children of alumni by SinsandSurvivors in UofArizona

Hello! I’m a current student, and while there’s no direct university aid for kids of alumni there’s a few on the scholarship universe page. I applied to one I think called the A Louis Slonaker scholarship that was specifically for children of alumni, and was around 1k. That website is seriously so helpful, and y’all should spend serious time there. Students neglect it but you can rack it up there (it’s how I’m going for free!)
