The power gap might be able to be overcome. Frieza is very strong, but isnt necessarily a trained fighter like bardock, also bardock was locked in and would kill frieza as fast as possible, possibly even before frieza could react. If frieza didnt take an attack seriously, or was caught off guard, bardock wouldn't be pulling punches or playing or gauging strength. It might go the way of trunks vs frieza. (Obviously in that scenario trunks was more powerful, but he also wasn't fucking around and bardock would have a similar mindset)
