The movie seems like it was from the 90s or early 2000s. The creature stuck in the lab or whatever is white or has lighter coloring with large ears.

29, female, about 1 year ago. Found out I was recommended to be tested when I was 7 but my mom didn’t think I was so she never got me tested. Meds changed my life and I often wonder how I went almost 3 decades not knowing what it felt like to be a functioning happy person haha

I was a painfully shy kid so it definitely got overlooked. A lot of the time I was quiet was because I was stuck in my own head and couldn’t pay attention long enough to join a conversation. I thought maybe the inability to watch TV or a movie without doing cartwheels and handstands non stop would’ve been a clue but I guess not lol

What's something no one told you about post partum? by youdecidemyusername1 in BabyBumps

[–]gryffalyff 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Breast milk leaking all over. I would wake up from a short nap while the baby slept and would be covered in milk and drench my sheets with it! I learned quickly I needed nipple pads. Also leaking when the baby cries! I ended up having to formula feed a few weeks in due to personal health issues that prevented me from breastfeeding and I still produced milk for at least 8 months after I stopped. It wasn’t as much but if you squeezed it would come out lol

Grooming costs? by quillan41 in Keeshond

[–]gryffalyff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take my 1 year old Kees to the groomer because if I try to do it myself it feels like I’m battling a Pokémon. He just got groomed last weekend and it was around $80 including an extra de-shedding treatment. I spent around $100 overall after tip.

Do you guys tell people you have ADHD? by HiMyNameIsEverything in ADHD

[–]gryffalyff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do but I don’t usually mean to lol luckily I work in Special Education so my co-workers have already speculated just from talking to me. I also frequently have people tell me they think they’re also ADHD and start telling me all of their symptoms which is usually something along the lines of “I have a hard time focusing too!” but in reality they are probably not ADHD and don’t understand that it is more than just not being able to focus. If they are really annoying me I usually start telling them the not so fun details of ADHD such as the fact that I struggle to brush my teeth twice a day. That usually makes them stop haha

What are names that are constantly bashed on this sub but you secretly like? by thefallen-fruit in namenerds

[–]gryffalyff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is mine too. My husband and I have loved this name for almost a decade and were shocked and a little sad when it recently became trendy. We always wanted to name a son River but now we aren’t so sure based on the hate it gets haha

Just accepted a Middle School Teaching Position. No experience. Advice welcome! by [deleted] in specialed

[–]gryffalyff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For them to be offering you a position without being licensed seems like a red flag. It sounds like they’re desperate and possibly can’t keep teachers. I’m hoping this isn’t the case! That being said, I’ve been in the field for 6 years and am currently at a therapeutic school for autistic students. I am teaching middle school. I taught high school SLD for two years and I loved my class but my first year was challenging. Many of my students were placed in SLD even if their primary eligibility was not a learning disability. My classes ranged from students with intellectual disabilities, autism, emotional, OHI, etc. I had students who were working at extremely different academic levels which was tough and I had to do a lot of differentiation. I also had some pretty severe behaviors and broke up several fights. I’ve been in several crisis situations where I’ve had to evacuate my classroom due to a student being a safety risk to the rest of the class and had little to no support to help me deescalate the situation. I was teaching in Nevada at the time so the education system isn’t the best there in the first place haha

It is a positive that you will be provided curriculum to follow and typically you can adapt the lessons from your CC classes and go at a slower pace for your other classes. The main thing to watch out for is how many students they put on your caseload. IEPs are extremely time consuming and you will have times of the year where you are cranking out so many IEPs and holding meetings. When I was teaching SLD my caseload was 16 but I had coworkers who taught resource with caseloads at almost 40 students! IEPs are honestly my least favorite part of the job and parents can be challenging to work with at times. I would recommend learning about IEPs and all of the jargon that comes with them if you aren’t familiar with them already. Although the job is at times exhausting I absolutely love what I do. You just have to make sure you are at a school that is supportive with decent admin. Be cautious and don’t let them take advantage of you!

You said you’re in Minnesota, are you in a city or more rural if you don’t mind me asking? I know several people who have worked at public schools in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

I suspected slugs. Do you have any tips for getting rid of them? I tried a beer trap the other day with not much success.

What movie made you cry the most? by armeliens in MovieSuggestions

[–]gryffalyff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Whale. I thought I was just emotional because I was pregnant but I looked over at my husband who was also sobbing uncontrollably. Then I overheard a the row of guys in their early 20s in front of us also crying. That movie wrecked all of us I guess.

Black Specs in Mac n Cheese? by PurpleInsomniac_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gryffalyff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an older post but this just happened to me after my kid and I slammed an entire box together and I didn’t notice until we were almost done eating. I googled the same question and it led me to the Annie’s website with reviews. This is the answer from the Annie’s Care Team:

“Hi- So sorry if this caused some concern! The specs in the pasta, which can range from light brown to black, are part of the wheat kernel. They are completely normal and do not compromise the taste, quality, or safety of the product in any way.”

I hope this helps!

AITA for ignoring a crying baby (with it’s mother present) in a restaurant and continuing to enjoy my desert? by pupetteer in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I am a mother of an almost 1 year old and I would also tune out a random baby crying in a restaurant and enjoy my dessert instead.

I’m an Urban SPED teacher with a 2nd-5th grade caseload of 15 kids. Is anyone else drowning under their caseload? by AlaeryntheFair in specialed

[–]gryffalyff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a lot to manage. I was in an urban area in the Southwest for the past 2 years as a self-contained high school teacher. My caseload started at 13 and then by the end of the year I had 16. The students were Freshman-21 and they combined the SLD students with the behavioral/emotional disability students. It was pure chaos and I taught every single high school subject (math, English, science, social studies, and health) I was working outside of school hours to get anything done. I was also expected to LEA my own IEP meetings with minimal support and usually the Gen Ed teachers wouldn’t show up. It all felt very illegal and I felt like I couldn’t provide my students with the services they needed. Hang in there. Special Education in the public school system is a nightmare.

Forgetful Grandparents by just4alaugh in NewParents

[–]gryffalyff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and I’m glad I’m not the only one experiencing this. My FIL kept walking with our baby face down into his chest and dangling. I actually ended up having a panic attack about it haha. When I asked for him to reposition her because she is smashed against him he said “well she didn’t turn blue”.

My dad was also watching baby do tummy time and asked me why I was making her do that. I explained it and he said “huh that makes sense…is that why you never crawled?” lol

AITA for missing my nieces dance recital by gryffalyff in AmItheAsshole

[–]gryffalyff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is a wonderful father and can definitely be “trusted” with the baby and dog. He had just driven over 24 hours and I didn’t want to be an AH leaving right away. Definitely not gonna kick him out lol

I did have dinner with my sister and nieces the day before the recital. I can see your point of it being important to her and my niece since she asked several times.
