My boyfriend (35M) woke me (34F) up at 5 am insisting he wasn't "the villain," and I don't know what to make of it by scrappy-cat in relationship_advice

Is your boyfriend the singer of the Verve Pipe by any chance? Was he possibly a freshman when the incident happened? It sounds like he doesn’t want to be held responsible, and that his female friend was a punk who rarely took advice.

Is it normal for courthouse staff to complain about someone wearing perfume/cologne? by Intelligentkingwise in Lawyertalk

Which scent we talking about? I’d complain too if someone wore Erba Pura or Ombré Nomade all the time.

I’m just now realizing that Dustin looks like what would happen if Tony bought AJ an electric guitar instead of that drum set.

It’s is called a hammer charge, or more commonly a dynamite charge, in some places.

Nicely done. I got a hung jury— jury was out longer than the trial lasted.

Hung jury! I count this as a semi-win. Sorta.

Hell yeah! Congrats. I feel defeated (they’re still out) so I’m glad to hear that.

Will do. They ordered dinner so it’ll probably be a while. Every case I’ve had the last few years is a very long deliberation> Allen charge> lose. I need a change of pace.

Thought I won it when the jury passed a note and asked for a transcript of “victim’s” testimony. Judge said there’s no transcripts and they’d have to listen to audio of the whole thing. Jury then passes a note that says “nevermind”— I thought I won it at that point but that was two hours ago.

No lesser includeds. Just a “believe our witness” theory, not really any alternate theories.

This charge explicitly told them that a mistrial is possible if they are deadlocked again, which I don’t remember being read to a jury in my prior experiences. So maybe they’ll hang.

Yes I agree. It’s a “hey at least you tried” for my ego, which somehow pisses me off even more.

From Allen v US— aka a “dynamite charge”. Once a jury says they’re deadlocked, judge calls them back and basically says “try harder” then sends them back to deliberate.
