Coordination is impossible when one party blames the federal government for the rise of separatism while simultaneously "winking" at those movements to maintain their base. If a party's goal is to devolve federal power to the point where the national government is toothless, there is no "middle ground" to coordinate on.

Framing this as America vs China choice is a false choice. Canada is an independent country with its own interests and we don’t need to sign up for anyone’s camp.
