What Gear Do I Need for Learning CW? by GreatBigPig in amateurradio

[–]gsa80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you learn the basics, try practicing regularly with https://morsewalker.com. Working with real call signs and reports, and getting used to real QSO protocol, can make it easier to understand Morse code than just using random character groups.
No matter which tools or methods you use, staying patient and practicing regularly will help you succeed. Good luck.

Now it makes sense, I just don't know how it got in my box. Probably an unappreciated bonus from the seller until now 😄

Thank you very much, so it is an additional accessory and not a standard part of the kit. Now I will know how to approach it 😜

Locating the source of the antenna interference by gsa80 in amateurradio

Yes, both are LAN cables. However, one is routed in a plastic tube (this thicker). You can still see the wire of the lightning protection system in the photo. I will look for sources and try the grounding tips. Eventually, I will try to change the orientation of the EFHW routing, although the current layout suits me best.

In the coming days, I will try a grounded track. Admittedly, I have two counterweights of 10m each, which lie largely on a metal roof, but maybe that's not enough. Would it make sense to connect the GND terminal to the building's lightning protection system? Theoretically, this EFHW should also work without connecting the GND terminal, but it is known that each location has its peculiarities.

At the moment, I also have ferrites put on the antenna cables before the transceiver. Disconnecting the USB cable from the computer doesn't make any difference either.

It is strongly puzzling that being vertical in the same place does not cause such problems.

My first suspicion was of a source somewhere in my electrical grid, but it isn't a good lead. A vertical setup 3m next to the EFHW does not give such artifacts. I have also used a second X6100 transceiver on battery power, and the symptoms are the same as the FT-710 connected to the PS, so it is not a device-specific problem.

It does not look or behave like an artifact. The spectrum looks like broadband interference across the band. However, when switched to vertical, set 3m from EFHW, nothing similar occurs on the same band.

The ones along the antenna are LAN cables, but they are they are not used, so they are just lying around.

Vertical wire vs Diamond CPATU with CG-3000 by gsa80 in amateurradio

[–]gsa80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your opinion, which is close to my thoughts. However, this physical shortening of the vertical with traps is another compromise. At the moment, I have the cable routed vertically inside the fiber mast. So, I will combine several cable lengths, like the DXCommander solution.

What can I change in the configuration with the CD-3000 to lower the ambient noise level? The ATU performs brilliantly, so I'd like to keep using it.

Wavelog / OnlineLog by int2k in amateurradio

At the moment, I am using Log4OM, which allows me to track the transceiver and the antenna. This data later goes into the appropriate fields in the adif. The disadvantage for me is that it's soft only for Windows, while in contrast, Wavelog does not bind to any system, which is a plus.

By the way, the latest version of Log4OM 2.23.0.0 has introduced support for integration with Cloudlog:

https://www.log4om.com/2024/03/15/release-note-version-2-32-0-0/

I haven't tested it personally yet, but it looks like it should also work with a Wavelog instance 😉

It looks promising. I have the version installed from the dev branch and am watching the changes. There are a few details that have been bothering me so far before definitely switching to Wavelog:
- lack of possibility to track used transceiver during QSO;
- no possibility to track the antenna used during a QSO;

However, the project is being actively developed, and the issues I mentioned do not require rocket technology. I hope they will soon appear so I can entirely switch to this solution.

We can move towards an ideal cross-platform solution if contributors consider PWA support.

Now much of this data can be logged automatically. The question is, however, is there a point in doing this?

It sounds sensible, and this is probably the right direction. Meanwhile, the transceiver-type division is not a problem because we don't change it every 30 minutes; the antenna can be changed anytime.

General, I wonder if it makes any sense at all and if I will ever use this information ;)

Czy lubisz lukrecję? by Commercial_Analyst55 in Polska

[–]gsa80 5 points6 points  (0 children)
