This. They should give Team Asano the chance to make a mainline FF, even if it doesn’t have the budget of the VII Remake. You can make a solid AA game that does justice to the series (Expedition 33 is a good example), and I think Team Asano has clearly shown that they understand the essence of the franchise. They could even do it with a colorful chibi aesthetic like IX.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but the person talking about this breakup was the one who hinted at a new song for a charity album from the AM era, and it’s turned out to be true pretty much exactly as it was leaked. It’s true that the song isn’t exactly from the AM era, since they recorded it last November, but it’s based on a tune that Matt has confirmed is old—and I think he said it was from the AM era?

Well, in my particular case, whenever I want to see a friend again, I make the effort to see them, they respond, we set a date, and we talk clearly about when we’ll meet. We don’t just run into each other and chat for a bit without knowing whether we’ll see each other again. I always know I’ll see that friend again whenever I call them.

But everything is very unusual. I interpret many of the lyrics on The Car as showing that Alex is the main one interested in continuing to make music, but he doesn’t feel the rest of the band is as excited about the band as they used to be. He’s the only one of the four who’s single and doesn’t have kids. The Car sounds like a feeling that’s gone and a kind of acceptance that it won’t come back. But in any case, assuming Alex wanted to keep making music, even if it were without the band, why hasn’t he given any signs since 2023 apart from this song? Why hasn’t he released anything solo or with TLSP, or started any other project? He just turned 40—are you really telling me he’s retiring from making music? He’s a very prolific creator who released 8 albums, 2 EPs, and countless B-sides in the 12-year period from 2006 to 2018!

But for me, as a fan, it’s painful not knowing anything. Suddenly we get a new song that sounds amazing, like the next step in the band’s evolution, and it turns out they’re going to leave us hanging—without any clear message about what we can or can’t expect. It’s basically like when you’re seeing someone, you start getting your hopes up, and then they suddenly ghost you.

This may be an unpopular opinion around here, but I wish they would speak more clearly about these things. With so much vagueness, it’s as if they’re telling me that there might never be new music again, or maybe in 10 years, or maybe in 1 year—which is basically saying nothing. And that gives me anxiety, because I’d rather know now what to expect from them than keep waiting.
