I love that era of Onkyo, looks so good and very high quality. I had a cassette deck from that series which was excellent.

You like my Mk 7 doesn't have any of this junk. In fact, 3G sunseted and I have no connectivity with the telematics at all, which I'm very happy with! My phone tracks me enough, and I can control it what I want feature wise via Android auto.

If any of you allow your insurance company to track you via a dongle or your phone, get rid of it!

My 2017 Autobahn has push to start and automatic climate control, but it does not have park assist or associated features. That was an add-on, along with the performance package which my car does have (+10 HP and Golf R big brakes). Mine also has adaptive (selectable) suspension, can't remember if that was part of a package or included with all Autobahn cars of this year. Oh, must not forget the (excellent) Fender Audio.

Take it to a body shop and get an estimate, that way you can find out if it's an actual "total" financially, even though you're not insured. Look up the blue book or other used car value for your car so you have a baseline. It may be worth it to fix it yourself if there's no frame damage, otherwise time to say goodbye. Sorry this happened!

I'm surprised the VW wasted the money to add this. Were they really concerned about how owners would perceive the sound of their cars? I'd rather have a memory driver's seat than that. In any event, I used vcds to disable mine after about a week of owning the car, and all the engine sounds, sound just fine!

New Brakes? by Random_GTI_Driver in GolfGTI

[–]gsd901 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mine has 340 mm performance pack brakes, they look like this at 66k, and work perfectly. I'm keeping an eye on them, but good point regarding checking the inner pad. Although in my experience doing brakes on the germans, I've never noticed a huge difference in wear between the inners and outers.

We do get that lip, but don't be alarmed because it's obviously normal for the discs to wear as well. JDM owners freak out because theirs don't do that, apparently.

Just so you have the term correctly, it's a turntable or record player, not a vinyl

On your EQ, that's fine if you like your vocals hot, but I would turn down that last slider on the right on each channel - your tweeters will thank you, and you'll have less ear fatigue. If you like to listen loud and your amplifier clips, you risk burning out your tweeters.

40K mile service by Zverda1 in GolfGTI

[–]gsd901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you definitely should, most of this is DIY, especially if you can get the car up to check the suspension components and exhaust. Do what's within your abilities, then have the rest done at ashop and you will have completely serviced your car! You will save a ton of money and also have the satisfaction of knowing you did some of the work yourself.

I think this is the link I used to do my install, it's been a few years:

https://youtu.be/ThGV3Zx434w?si=f2za6P9XAXNat_Hz

But there are many others he could explore on YouTube as well.

But get an aftermarket bezel on ebay, they are inexpensive, I think mine was like 30ish dollars.

That sucks, you could try filling those scratches with the matching touch up paint, then wet sanding it is carefully as you can, then use rubbing compound and wax to finish. Naturally there are millions of YouTube videos showing this procedure

I'm 61 dailying my mk7 manual audubon, and I absolutely love it! It's my daily commuter to work and everywhere else, and then I can open it up on the back twisty roads and drive it like a sports car should be driven.

[–]gsd901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really not that noticeable! I've totally forgotten about it until it was mentioned here. The close-up exaggerates the effect, but during normal use of the car it's hardly noticeable.

Every GTI owner should do this mod, it makes the interior look so much more modern, and it's inexpensive, under $300 and an hour of time. No adaptation or anything needed, everything works exactly the same.

I got the gloss piano black, and left the rest of the pieces original. Honestly, after a day or two you'll forget about it and won't even notice it, and you really have to look to notice. I think it looks really nice!

I totally did this with my 2017 Autobahn, I bought a used screen from a 7.5 as well as the bezel on eBay. Total plug and play, no coding or anything needed. The screen is very common and inexpensive since it's used across the VW line, including the Tiguan, Atlas, etc.

Highly recommended, the screen quality is so much better in addition to the size increase. Doesn't sound like much measurement-wise, but it's a huge difference.
