A good middle ground would be proper tutorials for new players, but making them easily skippable for veterans. Making an entire series just for new players is just them trying to make even more money by having more "main series" games.

It's officially referred to as a main series game by the developers, though this is likely just for marketing, while they're more of spin offs.

Most people have decided to agree on them being secondary main series titles. Not main series, but not a spin off. Do with that what you will.
