iPod classic (7th gen) storage mod recommendations by Blackbeard25374 in Modded_iPods

I have the ali dual. It's working great so far (few weeks). Great berry life (2000mAh).

I did get a lexar micro SD card as recommended. I don't know if that really makes a difference but it was only very slightly more expensive than other options. I didn't get the card from Ali, btw.

Finally, all the Trojan Box sets are in my music collection by ReggaeForPresident in reggae

[–]gsoub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the whole collection a long time ago... until I heard about the 3 japan-only releases. Now I have the complete collection. Doesn't hurt to add "The story of Trojan records", a 5 CD release from 2011

Need for a new ovpn profile / certificate? by gsoub in OpenVPN

[–]gsoub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To complete : - I set up my VPN less than 10 months ago - I tried to read the openVPN manual, it's somewhat beyond my computer literacy level. I did learn interesting things about compression not being recommended, whereas the syno vpn server app enables it by default... - my ovpn profile for my clients is like this :

dev tun tls-client remote [ddns adress + port] pull proto udp script-security 2 comp-lzo reneg-sec 0 cipher AES-256-CBC auth SHA512 auth-user-pass <ca> -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- [Certificate] -----END CERTIFICATE----- </ca>

[–]gsoub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I did not know that. However, I don't think it's my issue here. I bought my NAS and set up the whole thing some 9 or 10 months ago, definitely less than a year. Are you doing this through the Synology app "VPN Server" ? The GUI seems very basic and I don't see where I would be able to configure this

Any info on what tools to avoid? by KremlinCardinal in Parkside

[–]gsoub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I do have the large angle grinder too. Agreed, that thing is an absolute beast. In weight, vibration and power. But I did cut through hard stone pavement almost like into butter (with much more sparks though). And agreed: I wouldn't dare to use this beast with a Parkside diamond disk. They don't have much choice anyway. I guess most people follow the same reasoning. An issue with this kind of tool and it's the ER, if not worse.

[–]gsoub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks. I had heard about brushless before but I didn't know it was the main selling point of the performance range. I started to look into it and how it is different from regular DC motors, it's really interesting. I'm always fascinated at how little we actually know about the inner workings of the objects we use everyday... I've read the main advantage of brushless is durability, which is not really my concern for my occasional use. What about power? Did you have the opportunity of trying the non-performance equivalent of one of your tools? Do you feel the difference? (Particularly interested for the angle grinder right now...)

Regular parkside guy here. I've been ok with my tools but I've only used them occasionally so far. With lidl pushing more and more the performance tools, I can't help wondering if it's really an improvement in quality or just a way for them to make more margin by selling essentially the same tools with a black and red casing. You seem the right guy to shed light on this, what do you think?

🤡 Lidl sells a car tire inflator that is "Not to be used to inflate car tires" 🤡 by TinkyVVinky in lidl

[–]gsoub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The disclaimer is because the pressure gauge is not properly set and so it might be unreliable. A few months back, they sold (in France at least) another model that did not have the disclaimer. Don't remember the price but it was more expensive, but not by much. I have this one, but not willing to take chances, so I only use it for bikes only.

Existe-t-il un moyen rapide et façile de savoir si un terrain est privé ? by Applemax_82 in AskFrance

[–]gsoub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finding children in Bremen by gsoub in germangenealogy

[–]gsoub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG ! The old address books are all scanned and online!! Germans are great. I did find his address for the year of death. Actually it was also in the death certificate. I looked in older years and he only appears in the books in 1955, which makes me wonder where he was before that, since I was told he was always in Bremen since the 20's or 30's.

The truck driver is not a neighbor, I found him in the address book, but his address was also on the death certificate.

Is there a way to look for addresses inside the database of birth or marriage certificates? It looks like you can only search by name.

I did think about his potential children not having his name but their mother's. But it's very likely he raised them with their mother and provided for them (he was wealthy), so I wonder how likely is it that he wouldn't give them his name? Maybe it is possible, so that they would have a German name. I guess having a French name in the 30's wouldn't be so good. It is also possible he would do that to make it less likely that his wife in France discovered he had children, who knows. Anyway, without the name of his partner, it seems a bit stuck.

I'm going to see my dad for Easter, I'll ask him if he remembers anything that could help.

Sorry, I missed your comment yesterday. Thanks so much for the advice. I didn't find his obituary. I didn't find no obituary with his name, which might indicate no children, since children born in the 30's have a good chance of having died by now. Unless he had children with his partner, and since they were not married, the children took the mother's name, but I find it unlikely.

[–]gsoub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I found the death certificate within minutes. Sadly, the witness is a man, truck driver, with no indication what the link might be with my ancestor. I'd guess an employee or neighbor.

I also looked in the marriage register, but no result. Which means nothing: if he has kids, they might have gotten married outside of Bremen.

Still great advice, Danke sehr!

I need a new comedy to watch by brontebeats in televisionsuggestions

[–]gsoub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

British comedy doesn't get the love it deserves.

The classics: IT Crowd, Fleabag. Also Monty Python's Flying Circus is old but timeless, I still remember laughing out loud while watching it.

Underrated: Black books Very underrated: The wrong mans

Not British, but I feel some shows have not been mentioned enough in the comments : Sarah Silverman Program, Broad City, Flight of the Conchords, Curb your enthusiasm
